Cane to be sold

A very reliable source informed me that the current chef @ the Cane will be the owner in Feb---with luck we may have an innovative restaurant

This rumor could be good, could be bad.

Most chefs, I don't know this one, don't know how to run a business.

I hope your rumor is wrong. I like Cane Garden just the way it is.

Its a done deal !!!!-A creative chef is what a lot of restaurants in TV need--no need for a chef in the boil in the bag & micro-wave emporiums which are the norm here

Honestly, I believe the current owners are stifling his creativity

Why are they waiting 6 months?

Chatbrat 08-08-2018 03:55 PM

$$$$ & maybe end of lease with TV

Cane to be sold

Do you mean the operation will be sold? I'd be surprised in the developer was selling the facility.

Doesn't really sound like a "done deal" then.

Well, hope he can fulfill his dream. Good luck.

Just a word of wisdom--just because you're a cracker -jack technician-doesn't mean you're a cracker -jack business "person"

Hope he succeeds

The building is owned by the Morse bunch. Cane Garden used to be run by the Morse bunch as was The Light house and the Veranda which in Lake Sumter is now Panera. Those Morses know how to run a good restaurant. Their business model was to provide the services needed and to sell them to someone to run. I personally do not like how several country club restaurants are now run. But if they are not good enough, they will fail.

I have no problem with restaurants using short cuts to be their sous chefs. Pre-prepared parts of a meal can become part of a delicious meal, it all depends on WHO is in charge and if that person is a good cook himself or herself.

Cane

This restaurant and bar needs a major interior upgrade.

raynan 08-08-2018 05:04 PM

I heard a long time ago that he was leasing it to buy .....not a surprise.

Cane has a good lunch menu. If there is a management change, I hope they do not screw up the menu or increase the prices to much.

Check out Louis's resume sometime. He has quite a bit of experience and has been the chef at Cane Garden since it opened. The current restaurant management is also highly experienced. Either way, it is a win win situation. Just my opinion.

Ate there this evening after golf; food was great as always. However, we got there about 7:30 and they were out of their special, something called the "carved steamship".

I can't remember being disappointed at Cane Garden. I wonder what "Carved Steamship" would be?:clap2:

A steamship round is a cut of beef that is often served carved by a server at a buffet serving station. It's a good quality cut of beef, but not the quality of prime rib, and definitely not as good as filet mignon.

Chatbrat 08-09-2018 07:46 AM

The steamship @ the Cane is pork, not beef

I have heard this from several employees at Cane. Louis , the chef is taking over. I believe he is the reason Cane has been successful in the past. I have eaten there hundreds of times and I can count the subpar meals with only two fingers. Yes, the place could stand a refurbishing. It will be better than ever.
Never met the guy , but good luck Louis.
