RIP Burt Reynolds

It was just announced that Burt Reynolds died today at 82 years old. He died from cardiac arrest in a hospital in Jupiter, Florida.

He was most well known for the movies Deliverance, Smokey and the Bandits, and Boogie Nights, to name a few.

Too bad. I enjoyed his book, especially the parts about Deliverance, and his meeting people like Sinatra, etc.

Said he was dead broke when his agent gave him the "Boogie Nights" script. He sent it back angrily, hated the subject matter. Agent said it's your only offer. You have to take it.

He made the film but never watched it. Admitted it was solely out of desperation. He showed up for pictures at the premier then drove home. Was ashamed of being in it.
Takes guts to admit that.

RIP. Bad week for the Seminole's so far to say the least.

I remember how the movie “Deliverance” made me feel. I still shudder when I think of it. Great movie tho.

Actually, all of it. I went to college in Georgia, and we used to go into the woods to a stream to party, just a few girls. One time the car trunk was broken into and everyone's purse was stolen. Obviously we were being watched. I think we were incredibly naive, not to mention lucky. This was in the '60s. There was a lot of stuff going on. When I watched the movie, I didn't think, "Oh, this is not realistic." There was a mindset back then when things were on the cusp of changing. Georgia was a bit behind the times on all that.

The scene he did which I remember most is in Semi-Tough when he used a contraption strapped to his leg into which he relieved himself while seated at a self improvement seminar where no one was allowed a bathroom break.

He was a really great actor but he seemed to be suffering in various ways through his last years.

Boogie Nights was his best work. Great movie with great character actors. RIP.

I really felt bad for him when he was describing his feeling for Sally Field.

I really enjoyed Smokey And The Bandit. We know where you are now Mr. Reyonlds, Som'b1t3h.

RIP

Oh that's right. I had completely forgotten about that. What big news it was - even scandalous back in the day.

eweissenbach 09-07-2018 10:27 AM

You don't hear "Evening Shade", the TV series he created and starred in mentioned that often, but it was the smartest, best cast, (Reynolds, Michael Jeter, Charles Durning, Marilu Henner, Ossie Davis, Hal Holbrook, Elizabeth Ashley) and most compelling and thought provoking series on TV in the early nineties. RIP Burt!

Have a friend who looked similar to Burt back in his younger days.

RIP - Burt

Burt was a very good actor who didn't seem to be on an ego trip. RIP Burt.

We watch one episode of Golden Girls each night before bed. I thought I had seen every show. Never saw Burt. Was he being nasty to Blanche?

Hey, Nucky, it is from Season 2, 1986. The episode is titled “Ladies of the Evening.” Maybe they will run it soon or maybe we can find it somewhere.

I loved that show in the ‘80s and I love it now.
