They got 'em!!! Thank you Sumter County Sheriff Department.
Below from online news.... GOOD NEWS.
A golf cart theft ring has been broken up after suspects were caught on video surveillance at the Waterfront Inn at Lake Sumter Landing. A golf cart was stolen this past Saturday and surveillance led law enforcement to a home in Tavares. There the golf cart stolen from the Waterfront Inn was discovered and at a nearby home there was the discovery of a golf cart stolen in October from World of Beer at Brownwood Paddock Square. The Tavares Police Department assisted the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in obtaining and serving a search warrant for the property located at 107 E. Ruby Street which also yielded a stolen enclosed trailer which had been used to transport the most recent golf cart taken from the Waterfront Inn. That enclosed trailer had been stolen during the previous weekend in Lady Lake. Also found during the search warrant was the drill bit believed to be used to bypass the golf cart ignitions during the previous thefts. Robey Kyle Jones Morgan Troy Durrance Robey Kyle Jones, 38, of Tavares has been arrested on a charge of grand theft. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $4,000 bond. An arrest warrant has been issued for 23-year-old Morgan Troy Durrance of Eustis. He is also facing a charge of grand theft. **************.com first reported the thefts on Nov. 4 and reported the subsequent theft of a golf cart at World of Beer in Spanish Springs Town Square. This is still an active investigation and other jurisdictions are involved. The Tavares Police Department has jurisdiction of the continuing chop shop investigation and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is currently coordinating with Tavares Police to pursue the location of other stolen carts or components. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is in communication with all affected law enforcement agencies and will be coordinating investigatory efforts. The sheriff’s office is asking that if you have any information regarding these series of thefts, please contact Detective Justin Street at (352) 569-1600. Additionally, if someone knows the location of Morgan Troy Durrance, contact the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, your local law enforcement agency or Crimeline. |

Great job
|
Excellent
|
Don't get too excited, they are back on the street after posting $4000 bail.
|
Good job, but will the judge give them probation?
|
Excellent police work. Thank you, Sumter County, for your dedication.
|
We need more surveillance cameras
|
So, police do their job and a judge let's them out for $4K on a GRAND THEFT charge?? Was this the legal mandated decision or "they're just good 'ol boys who done wrong".???
|
Thanks for the post and very glad they got caught. Hopefully they will get a couple years behind bars to contemplate a better way to go forward with life? They are actually very lucky, there are lots of Villagers that would have taken their own form of justice on these crooks if the caught them trying to jack their golf cart that would be way harsher than the legal system would impose.

Catch and release? Oh no!

Great news! No fear of jail, but at least they will be watched more in the future.

You may want to consider these, and other questions before you start slandering the judicial system. |
Let’s see. Non-violent offenders. No mention of weapons or drugs in the household. Jails and prisons overcrowded. ADAs and PDs overwhelmed. Ditto probation/parole officers. And you expect them to stay in jail and then prison because it might affect your property in the future? Reality is most judges have guidelines they follow for bail. Plea bargaining pretty much takes care of sentencing guidelines. Don’t blame the judges. Blame the overcrowded facilities housing the mentally ill as inmates, the drug users who need help rather than prison, the innocent who took a plea rather than face decades behind bars (yes, there are many of these), the recidivists who couldn’t find a job paying a livable wage so did what they could to survive.
Our justice system is broken. Not sure if we can fix it but the bandaid approach certainly isn’t working. Rather than railing at judges, get the facts, help where you can. Maybe even volunteer at a prison. Teach inmates usable skills, teach them how to read, be a mentor, work on drug rehabilitation programs. You’d be surprised at the stories you’ll hear. You’ll be saddened when you find that the skill you taught and the inmate learned is useless because no one will hire a felon. There are no easy answers but you could at least try. In the meantime, kudos to the LEOs who did their job as it was meant to be done. |
Good for the Sumter County guys, but on google earth the thieves are located 3 blocks from the Lake County Sheriffs Office. Maybe they should be more aware of whats around them.
