Computer Guy Recommendation
Just had my laptop computer worked on by Roger 430-0101. He's a fulltime Villager and he's extrmely knowlegeable, comes to your house, and doesn't "break the bank" in his charges. Got my computer cleaned up and running again, set up wireless system...LUV IT!! Highly recommend him.

Computer Help
I had issues with both my laptop and desktop computers. They were running very slow and took forever to boot up. I called On Site Computer Services after reading about them on TOTV. Jason came to my house and tuned up both computers and down loaded some updates and now they're running smooth. He diagnosed the issues right away and got them addressed. His fee was very reasonable. He came at the appointed time, even a little earlier. I would recommend him to anyone. 352/638-1865 :Screen_of_Death:

What is reasonable charges? Can you share that info.

Lincoln, I don't think it would be prudent for mee to quote any figures here. If you call them they'll give you the hourly rate and other details. You won't be disappointed.

VCC computer helpers
I had a malware problem. I went to "The Villages Computer Club" web site. They have a 'VCC Helper' list. If the club is reading this, the page is over 2 years old and needs updating. There are 11 Villagers' names on it with their phone numbers and some with their rates.
I called up Bobbie Seabolt and she came over the same day and fixed my original problem PLUS helped make my laptop more efficient. I highly recommend her.:D http://www.thevillagescomputerclub.com/helpers.htm |

I think that you should call and explain your situation and see what the charge is and work from there. Too many times have I told people I got this service for XX dollars and they tell me that same service provider wanted YY dollars. Each situation is different and my telling them to call and ask saves me the problem of trying to explain myself. |
I understand your position but I'm a big boy. I know that different things have different prices. I wouldn't expect it any other way.
By asking what someone paid for something, I'm merely trying to get an approximate price range, not lock in a price. If they don't want to share that information, that's certainly their right and I don't have a problem with that at all. When I hired someone to care for my lawn in TV I asked neighbors who they used and what they paid. Otherwise I would have had no idea what the price range should be. Here in NY I've used lawn services a few times for short periods for health reasons and they are much more expensive here than in TV. That's why I asked those questions. If someone asks me what I paid for an item or service I'm happy to give them an honest answer. I don't feel compelled to explain myself. |
prices
I was in sales my entire life before I retired and I always gave quotes to my customers, its not a bad thing giving people quotes, all it does is keep other retailer honest.

Ok...here's the real techie advise, although you might not like it. Put the laptop in the dishwasher and run the normal cycle. It's best to have some sort of compressed air to blow it out, but as long as you don't power up the laptop until it is completely dry, it will not harm the laptop. Be sure to take out the battery too. |
I have saved a few in my day but it may take some work and that will depend on how much liquid got into the unit. And it is better if the drink has not dried. Keyboards do not like sugar.
If you can take the lap top apart and get the keyboard out the better. With the keyboard out try and wash it out with distilled water. Next shake out as much of the water as possible and try and dry every place you can with a rag. Next let the keyboard dry or if you have a hair dryer use that to blow out the water from under the keys. Take the keyboard out the the hottest place in the house or garage and let it dry overnight. While the keyboard it off the lap top check inside the unit to see if any other parts or circuit boards got wet. If so then clean things as best as possible. Reassemble and hope it works. I worked tech support for over 10 years and one time a guy called and said he spilled a large glass of water on his lap top. Lucky for him the lap top was not on at the time. I knew he was in Dallas Texas and it was the middle of summer so I told him to take it out to his car and open lap top up and put it on the floor of the car. He needed to make sure that it was sitting like an A-frame house. I told him baking time should be a few hours. He called back later in the afternoon and other than the water spots the thing worked like a charm. |
