Best Places to Meet Other Singles?
Which of the restaurant/bars in the Villages (TGI, Codys, etc) or just outside of the Villages.... and which of the 2 evening entertainment locations (Sumter Landing vs. Spanish Springs) are the best places to meet other singles...especially those 50-60 years of age. Thanks in advance.

"Just Mike"
My wife and I were in Urban Flats the other night and the entertainment was great. It was a guy who calls himself "Just Mike". Lots of couples and singles. I think he said he would be back on March 27. He really makes it easy to meet people, with his style of entertainment. :clap2::clap2:

number of singles?
I'm planning on moving to the Villages after July...Looks like that's when the big "D" will be final...Does anyone actually know the number of single households in the community? I picked this development based on clubs, activities, woodshop, and size of community, and average age(61)..I'm a 63 yr old male,,(sorry, 2 left feet)....
Thanks,Rick |
rfishxf meet hrp01
 |
i don't get it
Is there a guess as to the number or do you think this question is out of line?
rick |
not sure
either how many singles live here or to what our pturner was referring but looks like she thinks you should meet the blogger a few messages back by that fishy handle? LOL
there is also a free dating website called plentyoffish which is fun...don't worry, the women far out number the guys... |
pof..yes I saw you there
I asked this question from one of the folks on that site(POF) and the response was very negative..They kind of left me with the impression that this was a couples oriented place and the goings on for singles was slim...I realize the ratio, as I heard that from the developer too..I just don't want to be out of place in a neighborhood...From my visit there I'm going to love it,if for no other reason than the golf and the woodshop...see you soon,Rick
|
Oh no. hrp01, I am very sorry if my post was confusing or offended you in any way. And no, I don't think your question was out of line at all.
I don't know the answer, but whatever it is, I'm betting you will love TV! There are so many nice people (even me) and so much fun stuff to do. Plus, it's such a beautiful place! You and rfishxf both indicated that you would be looking for other singles in TV. I was trying to be funny by introducing you to each other, but apparently my humor fell flatter than bug on the end of a fly swatter. :boom: Hope I'm forgiven. |
Okay, Pturner, aka, Yenta, somehow I just imagine Boomer coming into this and breaking out in a chorus while you join in with a blond wig.
|
no offense taken
please don't think I'm offended by anything said..Just trying to be pc and sorry if I created a firestorm..Not my intentions in the least...Take care and thanks for the help, rick

However, the singles still have a strong presence here (did I spell that right?) and we hang together a lot. You'll find the ratio of single women to men is overwhelming and usually you single guys are taken up pretty quickly, but we have a good time and do many enjoyable events together. It isn't necessary to live in the same village as many of our group are spread all over TV. Come and join us and let me know when you are here and we'll have a meet and greet. Hope to see you soon. |
Wrong place to post....sorry if it is!
I am a brand, slam new member. I am seriously considering moving to The Villages. I visited for 5 days in May 2010 and am going back for the month of August to live the life and make a decision about moving there. Any advice, suggestions, words of wisdom, I would appreciate. I am also very single and would like to know about being single in The Villages.
On Zillow.com, I noticed that there are 924 houses for sale in the 32162 zip. That seems like alot to me. What do you think? |
Quote:
I recently read that The Villages is the fastest growing retirement area in the U.S. A lot of us villagers move in and decide later we want a different house, I imagine that is part of it. |
Quote:
First, a technical answer: TV does not have it's own zip code. I believe there are at least three different zip codes within TV. I am not sure whether the 32162 encompasses areas outside as well as inside TV. I have read that the average Villager moves three times within TV. Sometimes people find they want a bigger or a smaller home, or they decide they want or don't want a pool or to live on a golf course, etc. Many of us start out as part-time Villagers and our home needs change when we move to TV full time. I don't know the percentage of people who move to TV and then move away from TV. I think it is very small. Often it is due to the death of a spouse, the birth of a grandchild, illness of a relative, or just missing family back home. TV seems to sell houses about as fast as they can build them. A non-technical answer: Go around and talk to people in TV. The vast majority will tell you it's the best thing that every happened to them. People love it here! It's gorgeous, the amenities are plentiful and affordable and I can't imagine you could ever find a friendlier or more welcoming place to live. It's great for singles. It's great for married folks. It's... just awesome. If you're unsure, you can rent a place here for several months or a year and see what you think. You can rent in different areas of TV, and rent different model homes within your price range, to see what suits you best. Many rentals include a golf cart, which I highly recommend. Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best. PTurner |
Thank you
Thank you for taking the time to answer my post. Many of my questions/concerns were answered. The place I am renting in August does have a golf cart I can use...YEA!
Do you know the tax rate in the county? The rate I would have to pay on house every year. Also, the bond....is that paid yearly, monthly? Would I receive a bill? Is there a required amount to pay yearly/monthly? Thank you again. |
Quote:
The bond is paid annually with your property tax. There is an option once a year, and once a year only, to pay it off in full. Oddly though, you can't pay it down other than the annual amount due. You either pay the annual amount due, or you pay it off during the allowable time period. You will receive annual notice of when you are allowed to pay it off. The interest on the bonds is 7 percent annually. The method for calculating the bond is complex. I don't understand it well enough to explain it. In general, the bonds tend to be lower in Marion than in Sumter because the houses were built earlier, so more years of the bond have been paid off. Most people just add the price of the bond to the price of the house. So if one house sold for $200,000 and had a $6,000 remaining bond and another house sold for $190,000 and had a $20,000 bond, the $200,000 home would be the less expensive of the two. Hope this helps. |
I am a slightly depressed retired Airline Captain who lives in Del Webb. What is going on this Saturday night in the way of dances.
I don't do bars or loud noisy places. I am almost out of Prozac! |
Prozac
I have some you can borrow.

Single Chic
I am a Single professional woman moving to the Villages at the end of July. If I meet someone that would be great but I not really looking! I am going to get involved in TV community, meet people, have a great time and just let Fate & Destiny play its hand....it is just more fun and interesting that way. The best things happen when you don't look for them!

The best place to meet other singles in my openion is at the dances of The Villages Singles or the dances of Lake Sumpter Singles because of the mixer dances. The format is a organizational meeting at the begining of the dance then the dance starts right after this short meeting. During the cource of the dance the DJ will announce that this dance is a mixer meaning that a v is formed with the women on one side and the men on the other You meet at the vortex of the v and dance with whoever also meets at this point. If you have a good memory you know (you naturally introduce youself to you dancing partner), at least 4 people at the end of the night.
Another way is to meet chachacha (above poster and experienced single)as i did who befriended me and moved me along in singleville and i'am deeply indebted to her for her quidence. I met Chachacha at the NY club when i joined. I also meet some nice women on the pickleball courts of The Villages Singles. You all wil eventually find your nitch |
Russ, just close your eyes.
|
now who is russ?
pturner you have confused us again, at least me! who is russ and why should he close his eyes? the curiosity is killing me...did you mean our boston russ? i hope it is no one that i have inadvertently offended related to the previous post? c'mon, tell us....
|
Quote:
Oh dear. No, no, no you didn't offend-- and I surely hope that I didn't either! Yes to Russ Boston. I was referencing his well-publicized (I thought) pet peeve about a very common misspelling of Sumter County. Said very common misspelling appeared in this thread, so I told him to close his eyes. Oiy vey. (Is that how you spell it?) |

:1rotfl: Now thats funny and Lynn's response was even funnier Would it seem appropriate that you two met in August?? Go to one of the squares, you two, and sit and chat and listen to some great entertainers. Stud be a kewl guy and buy her a drink or an ice cream cone. There now you can call me "handie/cupid" Handie |

Me too ,looking next week........ and I agree with you best things just happen ....... |

Hope to see what the villages are like next week......
|
I made it
Wellll,finally here...:a040:
I've been here for three weeks and have purposely laying low...I'm in a short term rental and just purchased a single family in Lynhaven(closing the 24th)..Hope to meet everyone in the hood eventually but have stayed away from the activities of the various groups trying to "take it all in". Looks like I'll be tied up for awhile refurbishing the home but am looking forward to all the amenities here..It's mind boggling...And I haven't even met the pretty single women here yet, or attended any of the many functions available...It will happen when it is ready. Thanks to all for answering all my questions, Rick |
Busy Week for Singles
Welcome! A grand time was had by all today at the Sumter Singles pool party. A little rain was no problem, we just all moved inside and had great food, conversation, and a rousing game of charades! Monday (tomorrow) there are two events. U Are Not Alone for widows and widowers meets at Colony Cottage in the evening, and at the same time The Village Singles meeting at La Hacienda is having a free dance class. Friday the Singles Discussion group meets at Sea Breeze...Check your Rec News for times, dates etc and anything I might have missed....We are blessed to have so many opportunites for companionship here in our bubble.
