Xfinity: iPad from Texas

I did not order an iPad from Xfinity; it came from Texas.
I assume it was a mass mailing and other people received them as well.
The information inside says: Enclosed is your new iPad tablet to enjoy your great Xfinity service.

Then it specifies a 30 Day Return Process which involves sending it back. They pay postage for the return.
I think this is a new low for Xfinity. I'm furious that Xnfinity sent me this unsolicited iPad.
Now it's up to me to return it to Texas by FedEx.
I'd like to know if anyone else received an iPad from Xfinity.

What did Xfinity say when you called and asked them about it? And if they enclosed return postage, what's the big deal?

I thought there was a law that said companies could not send you unsolicited merchandise and then bill you for it.

Bill32 01-18-2019 12:31 PM

I thought if a company sent you a unsolicited product you had no obligation to return it....??

retiredguy123 01-18-2019 12:32 PM

There is a Federal law that allows you to keep anything you receive that you did not order. You do not have to send it back and they cannot charge you. However, if you are already an Xfinity customer, I would be very careful to read everything in your Xfinity agreement. You may have agreed to something that you are not aware of. Personally, I would just send it back.

Edit: lol what he said right above this. :)

And if they do send something unsolicited you can keep it but I would carefully check before doing that.

Save the trouble, take to the local Comcast/Xfinty store on 441, and get a receipt.

Great suggestion.
I'm not sure about the part stating that I'll receive a full refund. I asssume Comcast has already charged my local account.
I already dislike dealing with Comcast; but this is a new low.

Use your remote and click on the Xfinity button. Then, click on settings (the gear) and click on "my account" and "billing and payments" and it will show any new charges.

iPad deal from Comcast too good to be true? - iOS (iPhone/iPad) Message Board for iOS (iPhone/iPad) - GameFAQs

128GB Apple iPad for $5/month | Exclusive Offer from Xfinity

I'd take it for $120 any day of the week. You can get 2x that by selling it. You likely opted in to their offer.

Personally, I would feel uncomfortable keeping something I didn’t order but I don’t believe you have a legal obligation to send it back - moral obligation, maybe.

However, Infinity has more lawyers than can fit in the Eisenhower Rec Center so it’s doubtful they would make a stupid mistake. I’m sure, somewhere in the papers you signed, you gave permission for them to send you stuff and if you don’t want it, you must return it or be invoiced.

Just to be safe, send it back.

Since other Comcast customers haven't received iPads from Texas, I assume there was something in the fine print of my Comcast agreement. Today I tried to return it to the Lady Lake Comcast store and they said they knew nothing about it, and I'd have to take it to Fedex.

retiredguy123 01-18-2019 05:01 PM

It looks like you were somehow signed up for the Xfinity Ipad purchase offer for 5 dollars per month for 24 months, which will be added to your bill unless you return it. I would take a photo of the Ipad box showing the serial number, and send it back using FEDEX. I would also get a receipt and tracking number and make sure that the Ipad is delivered to wherever it came from. And, check your Xfinity bill to see that the 5 dollar monthly charge is removed.

Bare.

I would be miffed as hell too.

PaulDenise 01-18-2019 06:18 PM

Worse than getting the ipad….looking at the xfinity ad, it appears that you must 'upgrade' your service to get this 'deal'.

Did you upgrade your service?? Is that price the same as before??

I'm keeping the iPad for my husband as you suggested.
I didn't realize I opted in to their offer, and the Comcast person I talked to sure didn't mention it.
I still think it's sneaky.
But it pays to read the small print, so I probably opted in to their offer.
I just wonder what else will come in the mail!
