Can I put my Villages ID on my phone?
Sorry to take the post off topic, but it is my post, Is there a way to get your villages id card on your smartphone? That would be one less thing to carry around and I usually have my phone with me.

Same here. I have an app where I can upload store loyalty cards and other types of cards, i.e. AAA, AARP. I used it to upload my TV ID card but they will not accept it at the pools or at the rec centers. I hate carrying mine around...it's in my pool bag, then I forget to put it back into my wallet. Or I forget to take it out of my wallet and bring it to the pool.
Why can't TV add it to their app??? |

IMO I don't think it has anything to do with technology. The current system provides very high security against the duplication and attempted use by someone other than the original recipient. And it can quickly be replaced if lost. Others have pointed out the security built into our current physical card compared to a digital image(s) stored on today's devices. Each have their pros, cons and applications. All residents have a long-term interest in supporting and enforcing our current security/control/use of our amenities. It has proven to be a good system not really broken. I come to this conclusion as someone who has made a living integrating transaction ID methods as the technology has advanced. Sure, as a matter of personal convenience, keeping many copies in digital format would be great! Don |

I'd be great if you could.
As to posting off topic...you didn't. It's a general discussion. I love the idea. |
I have my number on my pickleball bags, somethings I forget my ID, some will put the number in manually and my name and address pops up. And few are to lazy to do it.

Hubby has credit holder attached to phone. He only has his village ID in it.

I also put my ID on my phone, but was also told that it would not be accepted.
I think the point is that it wouldn't be too difficult to Photoshop someone's else's picture on your ID so they could use the amenities we pay for. |
I don't like it. It would be much less secure than the current system. You could just make multiple copies of the same card and replace the photos.

I don't know why they don't just micro chip people, same way they do our pets.
Carry nothing, no id's, passports, credit cards, money, the list is endless. Bleep! Your in! |
If it is not secure, why do airlines issue e tickets and digital boarding passes?

I am old school, I prefer to cary my ID and leave my phone home. I don't think it is a good thing how people are constantly teathered to their phones. We all got by just fine for a large portion of our life's before smart phones took over society. I check my messages a couple times a day, but not constantly, and that is more than enough for me.

I don't think The Villages is very tech savvy in general. They don't offer free guest Wi-Fi in any rec center or restaurant. You can't apply for a guest ID online (You have to go and fill out a paper application.) Their temporary Villages ID application is paper and pencil. TOTV is only really decent on the Tapatalk app of you only access it on a mobile... there are many examples of how TV is not really digital friendly. I am fairly certain that within 10 years that will change based on the population demands/requests by Villagers themselves...

I use the phone in many other ways, not necessarily to take calls unless it is an emergency. |

A picture of a Villager ID card can be used anywhere, it can even be used by some else who goes to the same rec center as you do. Villager ID cards can be reused but digital boarding passes cannot. |

I bet in the not to distant future it will happen, probably from birth. Its a natural progression. Our generation has gone from pictures of wanted people on posters, and fingerprints, to facial recognition cameras, ID confirmation from your eyes, DNA etc. etc. Who knows where it will end? But they still can't cure the common cold! |
I remember, and not too many years ago, when I would admonish my kids and grand kids about having their heads buried in the their phones. Now I look around here, on the golf course, at dinner, in the movies etc. and my generation has their heads in their phones. They drive on the phone, they walk on the phone and they hurt themselves while on the phone. Now when my kids and grand kids visit they fit in. Who's behind the curve, The Villages. Their computer systems need help so using a smart phone to log in anywhere is wayyyyy down the road.
