Never ending dust accumulation!?!?

It has been several years since the new construction has moved far enough south of us that I tend to eliminate it as a contributor (we are near Arnold Palmer CC).

There is more dust accumulation here than any place we have ever lived. One can dust a surface and within a couple of days it begins to show again.

During pollen season(s) dusting is a daily requirement on the lanai and bird cage areas.

Anybody else think it is "dustier" here?

raynan 03-21-2019 08:40 AM

Yes....wish I had bought white furniture instead of cherry!

So that is why furniture generally is light colored here in Florida. We learned early on to not worry about outside windows unless you want to wash them every other day.

The dust blowing across 466a from Trailwinds Development this afternoon was incredible; made a run to Lowe's and as much as that water truck was trying to keep the ground wet, it wasn't happening.

CFrance 03-21-2019 10:42 PM

This is the dustiest place we've ever lived. (Tamarind Grove, no construction going on) I can't figure out why.

Lime stone quarry next to Fenney

Got dusted at Southern Star yesterday. It was wild to see it moving towards us. Also I just cleaned my porch 2 days ago. Dirty again.

fw102807 03-22-2019 09:27 AM

My hubby says that it is because of all the landscapers blowing all the dust around all day which makes sense to me.

I do think so. And this is a lalapalooza of a pollen season. Everyone is walking around with a tissue to their nose and squinty swollen eyes.

Do you think we should blame someone????

JUST KIDDING.

I don't know why it is so dirty here.

We live in Fenney and now that the construction is north and east of us the only dust we have is yellow pollen and quite a lot of it, wasn't this bad last spring. We never experienced dust coming up from the southern limestone quarries, I think all the trees between Fenney and the quarries prevented it from getting up this far.

Bjeanj 03-22-2019 10:45 AM

Pollen is one thing, but added to that is the never-ending dust we see in Santiago area- just amazing, and annoying! Not sure if the areas under construction have more; I would think so. Is it living in the South? Not enough rain? Who knows, but apparently it’s bad everywhere.

Two Bills 03-23-2019 12:34 PM

It doesn't notice so much if you dont make marks or disturb it.
I read an article once that said it never gets any worse if left undisturbed for six months.
We are 3 months into giving that theory a trial. :icon_wink:

wereback 03-23-2019 01:19 PM

Are you feeling okay Gracie
. I just never have heard you say anything that wasn't positive this is the second in a short time.

Our first two houses were in the building zone first on the street. Ok there should be lots of dust, but building has been done, lawns are in, and yet I could dust every day, I don’t but I should

vintageogauge 03-23-2019 02:54 PM

I clean our Lanai and vacuum the floor and cushions every Sunday as whatever pollen/dust is on the tables is also on the cushion fabric and I don't care to sit in it or track it into the house. I wash the floor every second week and it is always very dirty. Last Sunday was the worst since we moved here, everything was covered heavily with green/yellow pollen, doesn't look so bad today but I'll find out more tomorrow morning, I guess it depends on the wind direction during the week.

ColdNoMore 03-23-2019 02:56 PM

I've heard that a lot of it comes from the felons breaking rocks...at the Coleman prison.

:D

Must be a strong wind to get up to Us. I now cover my outdoor furniture, the pollen alone is a pain to get off tables and chairs

Vladimir 03-28-2019 09:51 AM

Its just not only the fine dark dust in the lanai but also the fine dark dust on the inside tile floors as well as fine dust on the carpets. Don't know where it is coming from but I keep the windows closed and take our shoes off in the house and the dust is back on the tile floors three or four days after swiffing.
Definitely a Florida thing...BTW filters and duct work all cleaned out.

I have greatly reduced the dust accumulation inside the house by changing to MERV 11 A/C filters from the MERV 8 that most people use.

Dan9871 03-28-2019 02:16 PM

We installed a Carrier Infinity air filter which is MERV15. It made a big difference.

One of the things that Sunshine did as part of the install was to go into the attic and tape up all the joints in the flexible ducts. It took him over an hour to do it. Makes me think that the air ducts joints might be drawing in some dust.

Dustier Places?

Dustier places?

Well, yes. I spent some time in southwest Kansas years ago. Remember the "dust bowl?"

And there's west Texas, in the desert area.

I've never lived in New Mexico, Arizona, or Nevada, but suspect that there are some arid, dusty areas out there.

The dustiest place in North America, and second dustiest in the world, goes to the Owens Valley in California. (You could look it up.)

.

Markue 03-28-2019 06:47 PM

I live in the Spanish Springs part of town, NO dust here. We leave the windows closed and have zero dust.
