How many houses?

Have you had, or are most likely plan on having...in The Villages?

A question in another thread made me curious, so I thought I would set up this poll...which is totally official and has 0% margin of error.
:D

CWGUY 03-28-2019 03:11 PM

:) Almost 15 years ........ 1 house.

ttown 03-28-2019 03:43 PM

How many houses

31 years...one house.

Goldwingnut 03-28-2019 04:04 PM

It's not about the house, it's the neighborhood. I have great neighbors in my CYV community and wouldn't think of moving.

Have I looked? You bet, all the time, and I've see a lot of new homes I really like especially in the Fenney/McClure/DeSoto/Marsh Bend areas. The new veranda homes are very very attractive because I have 2 Golden Retrievers, just not enough to make me move.

It's been 5 years now and the wife and I agree that the only way we are moving out of our current home is in a pine box.

villagetinker 03-28-2019 05:24 PM

Agree with Goldwingnut, except we have not bothered to look, way too happy where we are.

Nucky 03-28-2019 05:37 PM

It's complicated but one to live in so far but involved in two others with partners and our Primary residence will change one more time, the plan is 2 years, its a loose plan because if a deal comes up a real deal In The Villages Only, See Ya.

My wife never wants to move again so I have to pull the final house off without her lifting a finger. She deserves that she worked hard her whole life. I'll find a way.

thelegges 03-28-2019 08:03 PM

Not dead yet, so can’t give a final answer

OrangeBlossomBaby 03-28-2019 09:38 PM

We haven't officially moved into our first yet. We're expecting that we'll be able to "upgrade" once, within the next 10 years. At that point we're likely to stay put. I'd love for our final Villages home to be in the more stablished areas, either near the Paradise rec center where we're moving this summer, or just south of Sumter, like in Caroline or Mallory or Virginia Trace.

ColdNoMore 03-29-2019 05:23 AM

Well, so far, it looks like the 'myth' of the average home ownership of 3 is being shown to being just that...a myth.

And as most know, a 'myth' is just...a female 'moth.' :1rotfl:

As of right now, with 49 votes, about 65% (2/3) have owned or are planning on owning...but a single house.

A little more than 21% have said they'll own 2 houses and those saying 3 or more houses...adds up to a little over 14%.

Based on this 'totally official,' '0% error margin poll' :D...the 'average' is less than 1.5 houses.

In hindsight, I probably should have specified only 'primary residences' and eliminated those who have purchased rental properties...but the gist of the poll is still valid.
:ho:

Agree, Gracie. Hardly a sufficient number to prove/disprove one's agenda.

I know three couples, personally, who have moved twice. One couple three times (they now live on our street).

Since March of 2006, we have lived in four and bought one other for investment in The Villages. Currently just own one home here and a condo back in Illinois. Very Blessed.

thelegges 03-29-2019 02:43 PM

714 views, only 49 responses, so close to 700 could have moved more than once, but chose not to answer

Those are 'total' views, not 'unique' views.

In other words, if one person visits 10 times...that's '10 visits.'

And the voters are up to 72...as of this minute.

Not to mention, even by your own logic there could be 700 people who 'could' have only had one house...and chose not to answer.
:ho:

OrangeBlossomBaby 03-29-2019 04:09 PM

74. At over 175% of the first count, the results haven't changed much. As long as the sample demographic is random, you could essentially have only 1000 people answering a poll, with 3% margin of error, and represent over 200 million people. This poll isn't random, since it requires membership in this forum in order to answer the poll. It's possible the people most likely to skew the results aren't even registered. This is proof beyond a reasonable doubt that most Villages homeowners who live in their Villages home at least 6 months out of the year, and aren't buying for investments (flipping or renting to others) only buy one home, ever, til they die, amen. Proof! Zero margin of error. ColdNoMore is a statistical genius. I'd put him at the top 93.457% of the genius spectrum. With the expected 3% margin of error.

gomsiepop 03-29-2019 04:28 PM

My hubby and I signed the contract for our fourth home yesterday. This time we're designing and building our "dream" home in Linden. Life is sooooo good, we are blessed!

kcrazorbackfan 03-29-2019 08:20 PM

I play golf with a guy who's on his 7th house; his wife gets it all decorated and is ready to move on to the next one.

OrangeBlossomBaby 03-29-2019 10:04 PM

83 now, and the percentages have shifted only slightly, and the top two answers are still the top two answers, by the same margin as when there were only 49 responses. The top response is down only by 4 points and second place is up by just under 4 points.

I think you have to be registered on TOTV under a user name to vote in the poll, so if it is trying to be skewed, it would be by those with more than one account... under other user names.

"Now where did I save that spreadsheet/database...with all my other user names and passwords?"
:1rotfl:

You know who you are. ;)

92 voters now...and %'s holding pretty steady.

Can't see a physical poll through Tapatalk. One so far in ten years. Maybe one more in the future.

My neighbor has a coworker who moved 11 times. One time she bought a house, moved in, didnt like it, didnt unpack and moved within a month.

I know several people who are on their third...for many different reasons. But I know far more who are one and done.

Wow, she must have some clout with him. I can't even talk about changing out a piece of furniture without causing DH angst.

In our lifetime, this is the 12th home we owned and lived in. No we aren't military. We were corporate gypsies.

Two here in The Villages. About half in our small Village of 53 homes, are on their second villages home.

It is possible that we might do it again. We love our neighbors and enjoy our pool. This picture taken yesterday during ANOTHER beautiful day in The Villages.

Gracie...my sweetie...when are you inviting me for a pool party.

I met someone recently that moved to TV over two years ago. Wife wanted a house with a pool so they sold their first house and bought one near me a bit over a year ago.

They are now selling the house because his wife never used the pool in the past year. Buying a house without a pool in Marsh Bend..3 houses in 3 years

Thank you Gypsya. First pool in our lifetime. Lots of enjoyment in past three years, sitting by it and swimming in it.

I'm in my 2nd and final TV house!

Here ya go Chi, maybe you can see this on Tapatalk?

As Jazuela so accurately stated earlier (and even with the current 102 voters) the percentages haven't changed much...from the beginning of the poll.

No problem...glad to help. :ho:

It IS an interesting/fun poll, in that there has been a bit of a slight surge of late...by those claiming 3 or more houses.

Alternate user accounts, voting more than once, to try and prove the now busted myth...that the 'average' Villager owns 3 homes?

Especially since I'm the one that started it...and I have so many fans? :D

We'll never really know of course...I just personally find it interesting.

Not that it makes much difference overall though, because out of the current 105 voters...60% say only one house and about 24% claim two houses.

Well below the 3 house average.

charmed59 03-31-2019 06:04 AM

The way my realtor worded it was the average Villager WOULD (note future tense here) move three times in the Villages. Assuming dead people aren’t voting, and not a huge amount of people voting that already left the Villages and will never return, most of these votes are only of those that think they will never move or move again.

Between family members and myself, we’ve bought a few houses in the Villages. One from someone moving away from the Villages, so they would be in the one house camp. They moved here, it wasn’t for them, and they sold two years later. One elderly lady died in her original house after having a long, active life here in the Villages.

But the rest were people who now happily reside elsewhere in the Villages. In one case they divorced and are both living elsewhere in the Villages. In one case they bought too small, and moved to a bigger house. In another they found their house too big after their spouse died, so they moved to a smaller house. In our present neighborhood about 1/3 of the residents have moved within the neighborhood once. I’m sure some of these people thought they were one and done at one time.

There will always be anecdotal stories.

Having personally only dealt with a Villages (so-called) 'realtor' for a short period and eventually buying a FSBO, I usually looked with a jaundiced eye...at a lot of the claims (like the 3 houses average) she made.

But hey, maybe that's just me and my unending thirst & quest...to learn actual facts and the truth.

I've never been very good at just believing things said...on face value.

And then there will be those who eschew anything with even a tangential association with actual science or facts...if it conflicts with their own agenda or 'gut feelings.'

'Flat-earthers' and 'holocaust deniers' being but just a couple...of a plethora of examples. :ohdear:

Currently 111 voters and %'s are staying pretty consistent...with about 17% claiming 3 or more houses.
