Peel and Eat Shrimp
 

Another thread got me wondering ...

I think the best peel-and-eat shrimp is at The Freezer in Homosassa.

Any recommendations for restaurant-prepared peel-and-eat shrimp closer to TV?

We stopped buying Peel and Eat Shrimp because you don't know where it came from and there are many from farms, etc in bad water. We buy fresh shrimp from Whole Foods, which is from USA waters and is fresh. It is sort of a pain to peal and devain but cooking only for a couple of minutes in boiling water and they are great. :clap2:

I buy shrimp frequently at Lighthouse Seafood Market on 466. They have all sizes and the Florida Reds. All is fresh and nothing farm raised. They will peal and steam for a nominal charge. I bought a great tool for peeling and deveining at the market. It works great ane I peel and devein all the time.

OK, so let me be clear. I'm only interested in restaurant-prepared peel-and-eat shrimp.

Pity. You can prepare your own tastier for half the price. But, hey, go for it!

Agree. Half cup of vineger, half cup of water, 2 tablespoons of Old Bay seasoning in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add one pound of easy peel shrimp from Sam's Club. Cover and cook for 3 minutes. I think you can buy a 3 pound bag of frozen, easy peel shrimp at Sam's Club for about 20 dollars.

I think it's better than The Freezer's and it's much closer too!

We found a great restaurant in Crystal River (I think). It may be Homosassa. It's called The Crab Plant. I had a great grouper sandwich and my husband had crab soup and a crab cake sandwich. Shrimp was on the menu but don't know if it was peel and eat.

Such a shame not to be found in TVs.

Another vote for The Freezer....plus it's a fun place.

What you call the vein is not a vein at all. It is the digestive system of this simple animal.
When cooked in the shell what you are eating is shrimp poop.
As to cleaning tools. We have a simple tool that cuts the exoskeleton, shell, and removes the ???? in one step. They are still made but they like too many other things have dropped in quality.

The lighthouse in Sumter Landing has all you can eat on Sundays.
