My Direct TV charges just increased from $180 per month to $240 per month. Has anyone come up with a solution to have good service at a reasonable cost ?? We counted our most used channels and only came up with 11 out of the hundreds offered.:MOJE_whot::pray::boxing2:

There is a thread about cutting the cord. You can watch network TV and a bunch of cable stations without having to pay for cable service. Using a Firestick or ROKU or some of the other options.

You can downgrade your existing service to an "internet only" service, and subscribe to a streaming service that can provide the 11 channels you want. Go to "www.suppose.tv". This site allows you to select the channels you want and will show you what streaming service or services will provide these channels. You will need a smart TV, wifi bluray player, or a streaming stick device that will allow access to the streaming service apps that you subscribe to. Some of the popular services are "youtube tv" and "hulu plus". If you do these things, your monthly cost will probably be about half of what you are now paying. It may be a good idea to subscribe to the streaming service on a free trial basis before changing your existing service to see if they provide what you want. Whatever you do, you will need a good, reliable high speed internet service for the streaming service to work properly.

If you want to stay with a satellite service, I got DISH to match the cost of HULU after I threaten to cancel with a 2 year price guarantee.

Spectrum is the best.

They even have a plan (I think it's called select) in which you pick 10 channels for a reduced price.

Direct TV tried to raise me to $140 (almost double what I was paying) and I got them tho lower it to $49/mo. Ask for customer retention. Also, check your channel package since you are only watching 11 stations. Maybe you can go to a lower tier package.

Make a deal w/Dish. If you have a friend w/Dish they can safe money by your recommendation.

Maybe I shouldn't put this in writing cause the rate might go up, but we have had Spectrum (formerly Brighthouse) since we moved in over 6 years ago. High speed internet and TV only. The rate has increased by less than $20 in that time. And, no contract.

In New England we had Comcast for the same services plus phone. We'd get separate bill each month for each of the three services. In about 8 years the rate slowly crept up from $99 a month to $275 a month when we finally cancelled and changed to Direct TV and Verizon. Don't remember if they raised their rates, but we only had them for a couple of years then we moved down here. We still have Verizon with their "Direct Connect" service. We retained our NH phone number with unlimited long distance... still only $20 a month.

I have Comcast and am happy with the service, but when my 2 yr fixed rate contract was up, charges were raised from $154 to $191. I took several hours on the phone, but eventually a "retention specialist" agreed to continue my service for 2 years, fixed cost, for $150 a month. It became a challenge and I wasn't going to pay more.. I was prepared to cancel.

We just gave up DirectV last month and also decided to let Centurylink phone and internet service go with it. We had no complaint with Centurylink just who they teamed up with. Our Direct TV rate went up twice this year, once in Jan and once Feb. Where we are Comcast is the only other option but I have heard their service has gone from absolutely terrible to at least much better but that's only what I've read on this site. It was a very easy swap to make, just dropped off receivers at UPS and trashed controllers, cables, and dish. Comcast had free installation promotion going.

I had a situation with our home in the New England with Cox Cable. I had been paying $174 for TV, internet and phone. My agreement is set to expire and a rep quoted me a new price of $331. I told the rep you guys are holding me up without a gun at that rate. I’ll cancel and go to Verizon Fios, he said well wait we have a retention department I called them yesterday and will be paying the same rate I have for the last 2 years. Ya gotta push these folks otherwise they’ll walk all over you with high prices. I had a similar thing happen with Sirius. I had been paying about $4.95 per month, they were upping my rate to $19.95 per month, I called to cancel and after saying no 3 times the rep said OK we’ll agree to $4.95 per month for the next 6 months. Yup in 6 months I’ll rinse and repeat.

We had Brighthouse/Spectrum at our winter place in Oldsmar before we moved here. I was so sad that they don't offer service in the far NW corner of TV where we live. We have Xfinity and it works great but getting it set up was pure hell. I miss Brighthouse!

Please get Comcast Internet service. Then buy a Roku Streaming Stick for about $30 bucks. You can have hundreds of free Channels. If you want local channels and lots of other great channels YouTube Tv is $43 with tax and everything included. If you wanna really go nuts add in Philo Tv for $18 with taxes and everything included. You will never leave the house you'll have so much to watch at $61 for the TV and $31 for internet for the first year with Comcast, only $19.99 if you buy your own router.

My TOTV'S friend CWGUY gave me the guts to try streaming and as of now, I wouldn't have it any other way. My wife even likes the new setup better, that says it all. Our son in Jersey pays $248 a month for The Triple Play. I'm gonna keep it clean but I wanted to cry when he told me what his price was. I should have never asked, I broke my own rule, no questions.

No. You don't need a smart TV. You just need an available HDMI input on the TV to connect a streaming device like Roku, Firestick, bluray player, or other streaming device. Having a smart TV is redundant.

One big catch !...Only available in " Select Areas". Comcast has it pretty much locked up.

We have Century Link which is trying hard to dump Prism.

Plus they are tied into Direct TV. Our choice negotiate, So far so good. However, the clock is ticking.
