Found Dog---black & brown-probably miniature pincher
Village of Belvedere----directly behind postal station--this little fellow ended up in neighbor's yard. Very loving---obviously someone's pet--no collar--or ID of any kind. Neighbors are driving around now with him--trying to find someone who recognizes him. Phone # to call---352-751-4472

Found dog
Please call The Responsible Owners Club (I don't have the number) they have a good network to locate lost pets. Hopefully the pooch has an implanted chip. Also, call the radio station so they can advertise.
|
Thanks--I posted another "post"--did not know how to delete this one about him being chihuaua. After looking on internet and after the vet seeing him--does not appear to be chihauhau-- think it is a miniature pincher. Neighbors took him to the vet and they scanned him--no chip. Have a number for "small animal rescue" given by the vet. Will call them--maybe they have number for the responsible pet owners group. Sweet dog--but very frightened---does not trust us yet---appears to be very much at home on the couch!!! Can't keep him ourselves. Neighborhood watch was called and also radio station.

Here is the link for the Responsible Dog Owners website for lost pets in The Villages. Their telephone number and email is shown on this link.

Does this pooch have a long scar on its back??
I have seen a couple of min pins at Doggie Doo Run Run. One of these-- Maxi-- probably has a chip but another one I am not sure about. It has a long scar on its back. Cannot recall its name as I only have seen it a few times and believe it is a recent rescue???

:clap2:Thank you too Sandybill for being a caring and giving neighbor.

Sandybill thank you for being such a caring person and looking after this frightened dog. I'm sure that the RDO
will help to find the owner. What goes around comes around. You will reap the reward for being there for a poor defenseless animal in need. |
Thanks for all the kind comments---Responsible Dog Owners (Karen) has sent his picture out and put it on their Pet Finders Page. We are now thinking that he may be a rat terrier. I am certainly no expert on dog breeds--just know he is small, cute, but he cries some--and that just breaks my heart. He is laying on the couch next to me now--seems to be getting a little used to us. Responsible Dog Owners is a wonderful organization!!! I just hope he can be reunited with his owner--and if not, I have no doubt that he would make someone a wonderful pet. We travel alot so we can't keep him. Thanks again.

Sandybill...feel this hug. I hope that little person finds his lost family.
|
Have never seen this guy before.

When you look at the lost dogs on RDO's petfinder web site, Max who is still lost, looks a lot like the newly found rat terrier found by Sandybill. Is it possible? I sent an email to Karen of RDO about the possibility. Hope it's not just wishful thinking.
|
We still have the little guy and plan to keep him another day or two. No calls as yet. We posted picture at postal station and I have talked to RDO again this morning about him. I was also "on the air" this morning with the Village Radio Station about him--thanks to the nice DJ. He is not Max--- He has to be someone's pet--don't know why they haven't missed him yet but Karen at RDO says sometimes an owner can be out of town and has a dog sitter type person and there are misunderstandings, etc. and it may be a few days before they realize their dog is gone. Very thankful for their web page and the work they do here in The Villages trying to reunite pets/owners. He is very use to lying on the couch--and last night--he ended up jumping in the bed with us and slept there all night--so he is obviously use to that as well. He is still skiddish about your reaching down to touch him or put leash on him but he will walk with a leash. Only "piddled" once in the house while we were out. Just hope we can reunite him with his owners. If not, I guess he will go through the adoption process through Sumter County. I will keep you posted.

Sandy. I know you said you couldn't keep him....but....Sandy..you sound like such a perfect person for a little dog..unless of course his owner surfaces, which I hope will happen...but..............
|
maybe the owners of Max can foster this little found dog while the owner is being located, seems better than turning him over to the county....gn

Aw, he jumped on the bed. He does want you to be his momma! If you just can't, maybe someone on TOTV is looking for a dog or knows someone who is. Oh please, oh please. I do want him to find a good and loving home.
Sandy, you've done a lot for the little guy, walking him, letting him sleep on the bed, going on the radio, posting, calling, trying, trying, trying to find him a home. You might not be able to be his momma, but you sure are the cat's meow! :eclipsee_gold_cup: |

Sandy, I agree with Pturner, you sure are to be admired in your efforts to find this dog's owners. And you are being so kind in the meantime. |
I, again, appreciate all your kind comments. Still no calls from anyone. As I said we can't keep him---we travel alot; in fact, going out of town next week and after returning for a few days--away again and it would not be fair to have a pet and leave him all the time-especially one who appears to have been abandoned. The hard part is that he now trusts us--no longer skiddish--likes to be petted and sits close. I know he will be adopted--as he would make the perfect "Village Dog" for someone. Just know the longer I keep him the harder it will be for me. My granddaughter wants me to "mail him to Richmond"--she is an animal lover as well--already has 2 cats--her dad has 2 dogs. We go back to Richmond (our hometown) every three months for a week or more as we have all family/friends (including my husband's 92 yr old father) there. Wish the phone would ring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think people who abandon dogs are the lowest of vermin, right up there with pedophiles. I have my fingers crossed that the owners will claim their dog today. A comforting thought is that many, many rescue dogs are adopted by loving Villagers and end up with great homes. |
The End of the Story
:angel:Thank you all, especially SandyBill2 for giving our little lost rat terrier a temporary home while we searched for his owner. Unfortunately, after aggressive actions, i.e. WVLG (twice), The Villages Petfinder, well over 600 e-mail addresses affiliated with RDOG/RDOG2/Dynamic Dog Club, we were unable to reunite the little one with its owner. He is now in the safe community of Sumter County Animal Services for a complete check-up, vaccinations, and i.d. chipping. If anyone is interested in adopting this little one you may call Sumter County Animal Services for additional information. Again thank you all for your suggestions, inquiries, and plain old American caring. God Bless You and God Bless the U.S.A.

Look for a name for the dog with no name.

I'm confused... which one is the adoptable dog on the link that Tal posted? The only one that has no name looks like a beagle??? I love the schnauzer, Ranger, but I wanted to see the correct dog.
To Responsible Dog Owners.....why is it the "end of the story"??? It should be the beginning for our lovely little doggy. We will be optimistic and hope that it is adopted soon. Let's keep an eye on this situation. |

Sandy, you did a great service to this little dog trying to find his parents. Thanks you for your efforts. And also thanks to Responsible Dog Owners for getting involved. When I started hanging out at Doggie Doo Run Run, and talking to members, I was astonished to find out that almost every dog there seems to be a rescue. I think it is so wonderful that the dog lovers in The Villages have opened up their hearts and their homes to these abandoned animals. And hopefully, this little fellow will soon have a forever home. |
I guess it's not the end of the story!
I keep forgetting how anal some folks are on this site. The end of our story regarding keeping the rat terrier safe. He is, in fact, going to be adopted next week just as soon as Animal Control releases him to Animal Services. Someone has placed a deposit on the dog and he will be adopted to a very nice family with children for him to play with.
|
That's nice to hear. Not about the "anal" folks...

I am very happy for the dog but I have to put my 2 cents in on the comment. Thursday afternoon my hairdresser called Sandy and got the answering machine so she called the other number which was the Responsible Dog Owners number - she had someone who was willing to take the dog. She was talked to very rudely (I could hear it as I was standing next to her) and was told that they were not adopting out the dog - that was her "end of story". So the comment doesn't surprise me. Not very good representation.

Dear Responsible dog person.
There are all kinds of people on this site and some are more intense than others. Some like me who don't own dogs but care about them and some who don't like dogs at all. Most of us are caring and concerned about how things turn out....that a family has lost him, that he was cared for by a very nice person and that he is in a shelter. It sounds like he will be alright, but compassionate, caring people are not anal. Kindest wishes, Gracie |
