Doctor recommendation for knee?
Any recommendations for an orthopedic and/or sports medicine specialist for knees? I have arthritis and bone spurs in one knee. Thank you!

Dr. Silberberg. I don't know specifically about knees but she has a background in Sports Medicine and did wonders for my sholder.

Dr. locker at Orthopedic Institute in Ocala, might be hard to get an appointment but he's worth it.

Locker for hips but Dr. Williams in The Sharon Morse Bldg or Dr. Steven Nguyen in Orlando. Both do side approach knee surgery which has a much shorter recovery period. I've had both knees done.

I recently attended a talk by Dr. Williams and he does not do the side approach, in fact, he recommends against it. |
I'm sure others are very good also, but I had very good luck with Dr. Duke. And recovery time was very short.
Whatever you choose...do the recommended post-surgery therapy religiously. I firmly believe that makes all the difference. |
Dr. Duke! Top notch!

I had Dr. Nguyen but several neighbors used Dr. Williams (who was not here in 2015 when I had mine done). Dr. Williams doesn't technically go in the side but lifts the muscles where Nguyen goes in the side. As long as the muscles/nerves are not cut in from the front, recovery is quicker.

I often tell the story of how my wife interviews her doctors much as a human resources expert would interview a candidate for a job. As a consequence, she rejected two orthopedic surgeons, including one who touts that he's done more knee replacements than any other orthopedic surgeon here; she felt they were treating her as a knee and not as a whole person. She ended up having the surgery by Michael Messieh, who sees patients here in TV and who operates in Clermont. Her results could not be more perfect; she was able to walk (with support) in less than a week and never bothered having the second knee done, as she feels so strong with the one 'new' knee that she doesn't feel the need to do the other. Dr. Messieh's phone number is 407-592-1921.

Sorry, I just saw your question. I’m paraphrasing. Dr. Williams said that it’s not possible to see well going in from the side. He also implied that sometimes the side entry procedure seems successful at first but there could be some problems later. You really should talk with him. Also, there is a club, Knee Group, that meets twice a month on Tuesday evening at Churchill Rec Center. They have guest speakers. This is where I met Dr. Williams. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the heads up on this group. Given that I have lots of questions from those who have gone through it and with my current issues...I may soon kneed some good advice. :D |
Thank you so much for all this good info. I’m interested in the Knee Group. Is there a contact? What day and time is the next meeting?

Everyone has to do what is the right thing for them. I can tell you my spouse had both knees done (not at the same time) by Dr. S. Nguyen in Orlando and was golfing in 6 weeks.
