State of the Villages
Does anyone have a link to last night's "State of the Villages" address?
|
Only what was in the Daily Sun:
http://www.thevillagesdailysun.com/a...ews/news01.txt Last year they aired on VNN ad nauseum. |
The normally broadcast it for a few days on channel 2.
|
This morning's Daily Sun included only this unspecific notice: "Watch Channel 2 VNN this weekend . . ."
In keeping with VNN's usual pattern the program will loop incessantly, so you'll probably be able to catch it all, even if you start "in the middle!" SWR :beer3: |
Here's the thing;
For those of us that have a DISH, we don't get channel 2! It would be nice if theVHA.net or Distgov.org or thevillages.net would post a link. Why limit it to only those on Comcast? |
aln (and any other without comcast).... I know it's inconvenient but you could probably go to any rec center billiard room and tune in Ch 2 this weekend and watch the broadcast.
The writeup in the paper didn't reveal any "bombshell" news ... no significant new businesses coming in or other changes in how things are done. Buildout projected to take another 5-6 years is good news.... the status quo will likely be maintained as long as new homes are being built and sold. I'll be looking for the 'rerun' on TV this weekend to see if there is anything else newsworthy to glean. |

According to the Daily Sun, the State of The Villages presentation will air on VNN every three hours beginning at noon Saturday and ending at 4 PM on Monday.
|
Thanks for the comments. We close next Friday and don't get the cable hooked up until the following Weds. Maybe it'll be on the "Summer reruns." Maybe VHA will put it on their website. Maybe, maybe.

Just finished watching the replay of the "State of the Villages" presentation. Although there were no big announcements it was still interesting to see and hear the Morse kids (Mark, Jennifer, and Tracy) talk about the past, present and future. The most interesting part was a 10 minute film that showed a bit of the family history with their original 'resort' development on a Lake in Michigan and the eventual move to FL and growth of The Villages.
Many of us who have been here less than 5 years can be guilty of thinking what we have today is how it's always been. My, how wrong that is. LSL has only been open since late 2004 (after a 2 year building effort) and Spanish Springs was begun in 1993 and didn't finish until 2002 (dates are approx). The design and planning just keep getting better and better. Take an hour out of your weekend and watch the replay on VNN. Every 3 hrs ... 12, 3, 6, 9 etc. |
For those of you that perhaps have not seen the replay of the Mark Morse presentation at the VHA I thought you would find this interesting.
They had a video prsentation on the Morse family and where they came from and how they came to name the 3rd town square Brownwood. It seems that before the Morse family came to Florida Gary Morse operated a resturant - bar - nightclub in Michigan named Brownwood Acres. I googled Brownwood Acres and below is what I found. http://www.porkyfarm.com/brownwood.html In the link below you will see the name Gary Morse. http://www.porkyfarm.com/images/bwood1.JPG Hope you enjoy |
What interesting links, Indy-guy!! I am always intrigued with any little morse-el of information about the fly-under-the-radar Morses.
|
According to today's paper, the "State of the Villages" speech from the Morse family will be rebroadcast on VNN (channel 2 Comcast) this Saturday every 3 hours beginning at noon (i.e. 12-3-6-9)
Just an FYI for those that missed it last weekend... |
OH rats.
And here I sit, a huge fan, unable to view the Morses once again. We are off campus.
Village07 is right. It has grown so quickly that many people do not even know it exists. I am constantly saying that The Villages is my hometown when I am in Ohio and people reply with.."Where is that?". "Which Village in Florida?" or worse," Is it close to anything?" and" Is that a retirement place?" |

The Virginia Trace Yahoo Group has a post with a link to a video of the address:

Thank you so much for the link. I was surprised to see Gary Morse casually dressed in jeans and collared shirt and looking very much like a hands on builder.

My thanks as well.... Helps to feel a part of what is happening though far, far away! :mademyday:

Just being a bit picky, Gracie:
Gary Morse seems never to appear in public. It was his son Mark and daughters Jennifer (Paar) and Tracey (Mathews) presenting the State of The Villages. Jeans and sport shirt are Mark's standard wear for this event. I know that perhaps you expected a shirt and tie-clad guy? Some folks here have no memory of what a tie is! SWR :beer3: |

Oh...and Swrinfla....Sweetie has tried to help me clarify things for years and now all he does is shake his head and say..."Good night, Gracie." |
Gracie:
I guess that I was surprised the first time I saw Mark Morse in long pants, because I had begun to think that I am the ONLY Villager who never, repeat never, wears shorts! Sounds as though you and Sweetie are now as comfortable together as my brother and his wife - 63 years - who frequently ignore each other! SWR :beer3: |
