First Man
I watched the movie on a DVD from the library. Glad It was free because I cannot believe anyone could make such a lousy, boring movie about the first man to land on the moon. I can only give it 1 star out of 5. Pretty bad movie. Not recommended.

As I understand it the American flag was not shown being planted on the moon's surface which was a huge big deal in the actual mission. Hollywood! I rarely watch their movies anymore as they falsely portray so much.

Actually that little matter was making much of NOTHING. This movie was very accurate in details. Probably why some found it boring. |

Speaking of 'not showing the flag'... it's MEMORIAL weekend folks...
|
Does anyone find it disturbing that so few residents display flags on this important weekend?

The movie First Man was about Neil Armstrong and how his immediate family dealt with uncertainty and the danger of space travel. Thought it was extremely well done and in no way boring. |
"Chazelle himself also released a statement, insisting the omitting of the planting of the U.S. flag had nothing to do with politics."
That is the passive-aggressive part. Now we all realize that the story is about Neil Armstrong and what he and his family went through. But planting the American Flag on the moon is a significant part of that story. It is like showing a picture of Paris with the Arc de Tromp or the Eiffel Tower edited out of it. |

Wish we could get back to the movie rather than the phony patriotism which often stirs up these kind of fights. The US Constitution is what represents the greatness of this country and not someone just waving some flag. And usually for ulterior motives. |

Who Was the First Person To Reach the North Pole? | UC Geography Amundsen's South Pole expedition - Wikipedia This has nothing to to with phony patriotism by flag waving. This has everything to do with recognizing an American accomplishment. The movie should have shown the US flag planted on the moon. |

The film centers around the experience of being the first man on the moon and is thus about Neil Armstrong. It's a character-driven movie, not the simplistic or jingoistic film about American exceptionalism that some folks wanted it to be. And the film is extremely accurate on the technical details. Compared to 99% of science fiction films, space travel here is shown laborious, slow, tedious and tiresome, punctuated by moments of sheer terror. But that's the way the technology was (and it hasn't improved all that much since then). As a fan of character-driven films, I found this one quite good. As a space buff of long standing, I was thrilled. No film is for everybody though and your mileage may vary. |

I wish we could get back to the movie rather than all this current events oriented political crap. Any one can wave a flag. It means next to NOTHING. That person may or may not believe in what makes this country great-- those are the ideals that are in the US Constitution. |

If you are correct and it was a movie about the man and the family, and not simply the landing on the moon, then I agree with you Tals. It is just lip service. Patriotism is not the flag...that is much too easy. Patriotism is honor, truth and how a life is lived defending American values. I also love films that delve into the characters, and I support the statement..."Anyone can wave a flag"...as I said that is simple to do and does not a patriot make. I will assume Jerry Bells statement about accuracy is ..well, accurate, and if so what do people want ? Accuracy in the telling should preclude anything else. Tals...about s this true from JerryLBells post......"When the flag appeared on the screen a few minutes later, I felt like shouting back, "THERE'S the flag, moron!" but though I would not disturb my fellow movie goers further." Of course I mean that it appeared and accurately was shown ? If so, what's the problem.....faking it would be so much worse |
