The "garage house" in Tall Trees
The unmentionable online newspaper has a view of the finished monster garage which ARC has allowed to be built in Tall Trees.
I have no dog in this fight. I do not live in Tall Trees. I never ever have a need to go through there, but oh my goodness how on earth did the owner get the ARC to give permission for this monstrosity to be built on the end of his existing home and garage. They have opened a Pandora's box for sure! I hope, for their neighborhood's sake, that the landscaping will be sufficient to hide most of this monster. I am somewhat surprised that the neighbors have not resorted to legal action. |

I hear NASA has applied to use it as a Vehicle Assembly Building

Actually think it looks ok....I bet there are a lot of folks that wish they had the extra room. As long as they are within the setbacks and aren't infringing on others property enhancing how one lives is up to us. If it's legal, it's legal. I also have no dog in this hunt, I just don't understand the issue unless it's envy.
|
Now there's room for a good sized coach house above it. Second stories have been approved.

There is room there for a neighborhood party when it’s raining.

I like it a lot..Money talks, and B.S. walks... Think it's for midnight basketball, you know keeping kids off the streets...

The owners must have some hobbies? Looks like more garage than house. But live and let live. Hardly something to get upset about.
|
I am really curious what they are going to do with monster garage? Beside upsetting the neighbors.
|
I bet they have white crosses out front too.

Aha, you’re thinking they are going to hold services in the garage?
Didn’t know what the white crosses in TV represented before I thought something was buried in the ground a pet etc. But I think it is simply a Christian symbol, much better than what we have up north in some neighborhoods. For example, a huge statue of some Christian saint with a couple of blue life size Smurfs beside it for the kids. Roses with sunflowers planted side by side.... What’s a little white cross in comparison.... |
I think it looks fine. I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Met this gentleman in a restaurant a few months ago and he`s always been into cars and talked about them with much enthusiasm. Now he has a place for them. Did this legally so good for him. He seemed like a very nice person.

Up north we have for the 2 of us; 5 motorcycles, one is a large touring bike, that bike alone takes up the space of half a car. Plus 2 scooters in our garage, and a parts scooter. That is besides 2 cars. What would be really nice is to have a garage like a friend of ours who fixes them. He has white cloth under the bikes even when he changes the oil, everything is so clean you could eat off the floor. Only one of our bikes is coming to TV (I hope). But since hubby let me buy a home here I have to make him happy too. As far as the monster garage goes, as bad as it looks, I can easily see lots of uses for such a large garage.

No - it does not look ok, in my opinion it does not fit into the neighborhood. I say this even if I am envious of all the space this garage represents. I’d rather have the goodwill of my neighbors myself, just sayin.

No guy ever said that their garage was too big. Storage space is a premium here....and I am sure that this has increased the value of his home quite a bit.
In the Preserve the Villages is starting to build attached RV garages. In other nearby communities these are becoming very popular. Now those are big garages. I have also seen additions that have been 2 story garages with car lifts in them so you could drive a car under a car. These lifts have gotten to be inexpensive so if you have the space/height they are quite desirable. In my previous community just outside The Villages, I designed and built myself a second attached garage...the only one in the neighborhood. It was proportioned well and fit nicely on the lot. I never heard even one negative comment. Since I did all the work myself, it cost me about 10-12k to do it. I sold that home for well over 50,000 more than any other home in the neighborhood, largely because of that extra garage space. I understand everyone's feelings on this....on one hand you do not want every home to look exactly alike, and you also do not want an eyesore. I personally think this is well within those extremes. The garage addition is approved by ARC and is already built. Folks are “beating a dead horse”. Another way to put it “BOY howdy” it’s a done deal. I seriously think landscaping will make a difference just as landscaping makes an improvement to any property.

It was approved it’s built and will get landscaped soon. It looks great. Congratulations to the owner of the beautiful home. Glad you hung in there against all the opposition. Enjoy your home in the way you see fit.

It's kinda like having a big deck.. lol Big Deck - YouTube |
Lynnhaven is close to Tall Trees so I will have to golf cart by this home to check it out.
There are not a whole lot of houses in Tall Trees that I recall. |
The owner has hired a landscaping company and there will be a Bougainvillea , a Weeping Bottle Brush , and a Laura Pendulum tree along with an11-inch wall and rock beddings. We should judge after the finished product.

If that house in Tall Trees offends you, then don't go to the Village of Pinellas, especially the street of Isleworth Circle. One house has a 9 car garage, the others have 3 to 5 car garages. The only photo I could find of Isleworth Circle was a home with a 5 car garage. Those on the southside might remember it was hit by lighting and burned down in 2013 and smoke could be seen for miles. They rebuilt the home, here is a photo right after the lightning strike, you can see part of the garages. From what I've heard, they have every toy in the garage, SUV's, boat, jet skis, ATV's, motorcycles and he had air tanks in the ceiling so he could just pull down a hose and inflate the tires of any vehicle while it was in the garage.

I'd like to see what the house looks like from the perspective of someone standing on the street with that little porch bench directly in front of them. The perspective of the photo in this thread (and at the Villages "news" site) of course looks like a monster of mostly garage, tiny home. It was set up to look that way on purpose, to really play up the garage part, and the unfinished driveway, and total lack of landscaping.
While it's obvious that this guy's garage is enormous, it also means he could easily convert his golf garage into a step-down (or ramped, for handicap accessibility) TV room of the house itself, and make the normal car garage part into a combination laundry/golf cart garage/workshop. And then the big huge new add-on part could become a garage large enough for a tall pickup truck and a normal car, with plenty of room to get in and out, and even a handi-van if someone disabled moves in. |

Approved or not, I think the house is ugly. More garage than house. But to each his own, as long as there is approval. I'm glad I don't live there, and I wouldn't buy there around that place. |
Like @Jazuela stated, the photo really seems to be "stretching" it a bit (pun intended). You can make lots of things look bigger than they are with the right (or wrong) angle on the photo. ;)
|
Personally, I think it's ugly and the garage addition is way out of proportion to the house and way out of proportion to the neighborhood. If I were on the ARC I would never approve that. But they did, so it stays.

We were just out but not wondering around aimlessly this time we were on the hunt for this "Garage" house. Well, we had an assist from one of our NOTHING thread Brothers who is also our Counselor while we were on the hunt. You have to try hard to see it so it won't be traumatizing many Villagers.
I have a picture on my phone that is approximately equal to the one that is posted online. Without meaning to be disrespectful to anyone with the opposite view from mine I would just like to know how long you will be visiting earth? The pictures in no way represent the reality of seeing it in person. What is the motivation behind badgering the owner of this home? It certainly can't be the looks of the house. The only thing that could make it perfect IMHO is if the Garage Doors were Three Then Two Then One from the front door to the corner on the right. Once this house has the landscaping completed it will be a SuperStar in a Fantastic Neighborhood. It didn't bring down the value of anyone's home. In fact, it probably will raise the neighboring homes a bit. I saw some other "things" going on in the same neighborhood and those things had a Permit Box Out Front. So its' time to clam up about those other projects because they have been approved. It's time to let this OWNER enjoy his home in Peace and Quiet! Get a Life. Go find someone with a White Cross! (Joking). |
That's my kind of neighbor, probably has nice tools to borrow :-) As others have said, to each his own.

Here's one in my current neighborhood (not The Villages). Intended for an RV or stacking vehicles on a lift as mentioned previously.
I thought it was a Fire Station when first moved in.:) |
I wonder if the ARC would approve a house like this? It was near where I once lived in Pittsford, NY. Mushroom House
Or this. Nob Hill house makes 'Strangest Roadside Attraction' list True story. Captain Kirk (William Shatner) was in ABQ in a cab on his way to the airport, spied the house, stopped the cab and went and rang the doorbell. When the architect-owner, Bart Prince, responded through the intercom Shatner said “Beam me up Scotty.” Prince recognized the voice, invited Shatner up and they had a nice visit. Now from what I have read the owner of the garage house owns a couple other houses in TV. He surely is an interesting person. I wonder what kind of fun toys he will put into his garage. |

Maybe in the new area there could be a special section, called Garage St and have all the people who love large garages and lots of toys, all live there.

The guy with the Porch in Country Club Hills is my next destination ASAP. I may have seen it already and if its the one I'm thinking of it is an improvement, not a drawback. Maybe the man made a mistake with the paperwork but don't execute him for it. Work it out. Compromise is Possible. Clark Kent & Lois Lane over and out! :1rotfl: |
