Cane Garden Restaurant

We have been regular patrons of the Cane Garden restaurant for quite some time. Something has happened. On the last two Sunday mornings we have been there for breakfast. The quality of the food is not good. Home fries that are cold, pancakes cooked on the outside but gummy and not cooked on the inside. The presentation of the plate is terrible. I did speak with the manager to no avail. Will give it one more try in a few weeks but will be going elsewhere. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Have not gone for breakfast but have been there for lunch and dinner and haven't seen a change in taste or service in those meals. Maybe a different kitchen crew for breakfasts? Not sure what you meant by "no avail" he might have heard you, future visits will determine that.

bagboy 06-30-2019 12:51 PM

We went back after a long time away from there. Our plan was a cold beer or two and apps at the bar. We tried three different beers, all were flat and warm. The bartenders were good, but not good enough to overcome the beer temps. I'm not interested in going back.

JSR22 06-30-2019 01:18 PM

Four of us had dinner there 3 weeks ago. All four meals were not good. Service was indifferent. No reason to return.

golf2140 06-30-2019 01:22 PM

We were there last Monday evening and the place was empty. Food wasn't to bad. Service at the bar was good. Something going on.

Cane garden has changed. It was always our go to CC as it was consistent and usually good food and service. Either new management or new cook or something different. Usually it's a new manager when something like this happens.

I firmly believe management owns 100% of all problems in any business. I have proved that many times over. It's never the employees or the customers or the location, it's always management. Take any failing business, get a really good manager and it can be fixed.

So my bet is cane garden has a new manager.

Chatbrat 06-30-2019 02:40 PM

When they screwed Lewis, it went downhill--they must have a big nut $$, for the purchase and they are penny pinching,

valuemkt 06-30-2019 02:56 PM

Still a go to restaurant .. great wings and a nice affordable sunday turkey dinner.

As you may know, the Cane is under new ownership....Things have changed.

Went there with a group after golf a couple of weeks ago. No dropoff in service or food. I have never had a bad meal there (and I hope that won't change). Can't say that about most of the other CC's.

Just got back from there. Service was horrible and food was mediocre at best. How bad was the service ? I normally tip 20 - 25%. I left nothing and that is the first time I have done that in a long long time.

Mudder 07-04-2019 07:19 AM

Went there about a week ago. It is so loud in there we had trouble carrying on a normal conversation. Food was ok, but waitress acted as if she had a train to catch! She was actually rude in her rush to get us out, we were so happy to get out . In no way was it a relaxing Sunday afternoon meal with friends.

Yup! Long time chef, Louis Santiago left here. He now is the chef at Arnold Palmer Legends CC working for Chad. Expect menu changes there.

Understand the opinions about the food and the service but do not understand complaints about the noise. If it is your go to eatery, are they piping in noise thru speakers, did they tear down walls and is the noise volume in a long standing restaurant an issue of the management or the patrons on that day. If you are a regular do you not know what the level of noise is inside a restaurant? It is justifiable to complain about service and food/drink issues but really some things are beyond changes without large outlays of money. Please be fair with your reviews!

jeriteri 07-07-2019 09:15 AM

Whenever management changes, this always happens. Sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad. We will have to stop by an check it out!

redwitch 07-07-2019 10:24 AM

I’ve always loved CC. Recommended it to newbies without hesitation. Was there about a month ago. To say that things were dismal was putting it politely. Straw wrappers under every table. Dropped food under several. Waitress had too many tables to serve anyone in a timely manner. Food was mediocre, at best. Quite honestly, my daughter could have fixed a better meal and she isn’t the best cook in town. I will give it one more chance but my expectations aren’t too high at this point.

super5089 07-08-2019 03:46 AM

We have gone there every Sunday for years and feel the breakfast has gotten better

jandbmcg 07-08-2019 04:45 AM

Yes, even the dinners are not the same...no ownership...

Rich42 07-08-2019 05:07 AM

We eat at Cane frequently. The food was pretty good as usual, but the service the last couple of visits was not good! There are too many other good options to put up with that.

Bill44 07-08-2019 05:48 AM

Cane Garden down hill

Went there for breakfast and was very disappointed. The food had an off taste. Like the cooking oil was bad. We told the waitress and she relayed our complaint to her manager who never came forward to speak to us. The potatoes were cold, the omelette was not three eggs. My wife left most of her food on the plate and we were never compensated for thr bad food. The manager told the waitress that there is nothing wrong with our food even though it was served cold. Not going back for breakfast. Also had poor quality steak on their Tuesday night special.

CG

Haven’t noticed a change.

Chatbrat 07-08-2019 05:55 AM

cane garden

we were frequent flyers @ the Cane, for a quick cocktail & light meal @ the bar

Lately it appears most of their food has become boil in the bag or microwave preprepared items from Sysco or similar vendors

we stopped eating their prime rib-because our mouth would become so dried out from msg--we had to consume a lot of water @ 3AM

They have lost a lot of quality & creativity

Marathon Man 07-08-2019 06:28 AM

Here is something that I would like to see. More definition to "bad service". When I eat at a CC, it is almost always after golf with my group of 8-10. We are engaged in world problem solving and really don't pay attention (or care) about the speed of service. This is very different from someone who is ready to eat now and waiting for their food to arrive.

susan1047sb 07-08-2019 06:30 AM

We had not been there for awhile due to a change in the service and food! We use to have a great time going to the bar for a drink and food. The bar staff changed and there was no personality or enjoyment from the bar staff. We went back this past Friday night for dinner and after golf this past Sunday! Food and service was good! Staff changes and things happen. Glad to see some staff that seemed to enjoy their job!

bilcon 07-08-2019 06:40 AM

I am very surprised you had flat beer. They are always changing the kegs as they ago through so much beer. Finding cold beer in TV is hard because so many of their lines to the beer cooler are too long. If the food is not right, send it back. I have not found any difference in the food. You must have hit a bad day. The manager was the assistant for years so that should't be a problem.

Gamille 07-08-2019 06:41 AM

Hope this is an old post. Was not happy with food at Can Garden a year or two back, but found it has improved. Hopewith new management it will remain our favorite go to place.

Cane Garden

Had Turkey Dinner there a few Sundays ago. Dressing was mush and had lots of carrots in it. UNCOOKED carrots Who does that ?

Sunflower33 07-08-2019 07:46 AM

Cane garden has always been a hit or miss for me. In 10 years here in the Villages it isn’t a place I go anymore because of that

I never had a bad meal at Cane Garden. Can't say the same about Palmer Legends where I've had unbelievably disastrous fare on numerous occasions. Stopped going there but may try again with the new chef.

Out with the old in with the new.

Bkr7084 07-08-2019 08:34 AM

Yes there was change made at the top. Most people don’t accept change well! When this happens it is not usually a good result no matter what the new owner says. Been there several times since and don’t see the better servers anymore, only 1 remains. TOO BAD

Dburesh 07-08-2019 08:43 AM

Cane Garden

Yes...we have also been disappointed. It's just not the same & it's always been our favorite co club to eat at because of the food, prices, service & atmosphere. They definitely need to remodel it & brighten it up a little too! The dark atmosphere doesn't help any & the quality & quanity just isn't there anymore...

adpotate 07-08-2019 09:01 AM

Cane Garden- too bad - don’t enjoy anymore.

The food is just so so. It would be more enjoyable if the owner would get rid of the dark and dirty curtains and update the decor to light colors and materials. The old decorations are way past their prime and should be trashed. There have been a few new wait staff who have been very pleasant and seem to enjoy their work. That’s refreshing. Apparently the new owner thinks that doing a few repairs while staying open is a good idea. I’m here to say IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. BITE THE BULLET MAN AND DO A COMPLETE JOB with the doors closed and your remaining customers will look forward to coming back and the ones you have lost will want to return. Also, get a chef who knows how to cook.

I should probably know this, but what is a CC?

Yes. Had dinner there twice last week. The herbed whitefish was excellent as was the salmon wrap.

RWR39 07-08-2019 11:15 AM

I have been hearing that often lately

Cane CC

I believe the manager, who thought he would be purchasing Cane, left and is now at Palmer's and he took some kitchen staff with him. That could be the problem. However, I always liked Cane and hope the food and service go back to the greatness of before. We haven't gone to Palmer's in a long time. I hope that he is able to make some needed improvements to Palmer's.

Chatbrat 07-10-2019 06:34 AM

just saw on the unmentionable news site, the Cane Garden is having trouble passing food and health inspections--they better get their act together or they will be on the same path that caused Hacienda Hills & Glenview to fail
