Dogs on the square
"Heard" there was an article in the paper and an announcement from the stage at Lake Sumter Landing. "Supposedly", dogs are now banned from the town squares. Does anyone know anything about this? Preferably facts, since this thread is a "rumor".
|
I'll start out by saying I love dogs. Our last one was with us for 17 years. When we had to put him down it was like loosing a family member. I totally agree with banning dogs within the town square. We have a vast community with a number of elderly who could be tripped up by those who bring their dogs on a leash. They also allow them to do their business within the squares. Also our young grand-children just reach out to the dogs who sometimes snap at them.

Which day was this in the paper?
I did not see anything in a quick reading of the relevant sections of today's Villages Daily Sun.
Dog owners should use a little common sense about when and where to bring their dogs in the Villages but I do not see any rational why the Villages' management would ban dogs on the squares. |
I like dogs. I like them here and there. I like them almost everywhere. I like them on the square, to be fair.
I don't have a dog. I am going to leash train our cats and take them to the square. This is going to be a long thread. This subject just doesn't seem to get old around here. I heard a rumor that there were only three people in The Villages that didn't have a dog.:throwtomatoes::shocked::boom: |

:) Fumar must be one of the three. :p (jus' jokin')

I think there was an announcement from the stage --something about banning Fumar from the square but didn't hear anything specific about dogs. ;-)

There was NO article in the Village SUN and there was NO announcement at the Square banning Dogs.......

I'm curious how you know this to be "FACT." |
I heard Fumar as three dogs. :doggie::doggie::doggie:

I have a beagle
I have a beagle. She is about 12 years old. And NO I would NOT bring her to the square. What purpose would it serve? 1) It would make the animal very nervous and upset, B) It would make my wife and I very nervous and upset and 3) When I do go to the squares, I go to have a good time and not dogsit. I can do that forever when I am at home.
|
There is nothing wrong with the dogs that go to the square to party and dance and have a good time. Especially if their single. A little sniff here and a little sniff there and "VIOLA", romance, all good fun. But, the dogs owners that bring their dogs to the square, now there's a another story. Without going into lengthy details, it kind of reminds of why we do not have any more Buffalo to admire and show to our grandkids. What on Earth did the Buffalo do wrong that had them banished forever ? Could it have been the people that could not read the signs that said " Do not feed the Buffalo " or those very same people that felt that those fences were for other people, certainly not them ! My dog is loved by us and all of our family and friends, she is our responsibility, and because we love her, we do not, I repeat, do not, bring her to the square's where she might annoy or be annoyed by folks that go to the squares for their enjoyment, other then the dog show. By the way, we never fed the Buffalo either but, we sure miss them.
Hey, folks get to show off their cars once a month at " A Cruise In " How about a " BARK IN " once a month, so we can show off our dogs?:pepper2::pepper2: |

Let's see - there's you, me and The Great Fumar, so maybe we're the three who don't own dogs. Doesn't account for the fact that there's only one dog-owning house in my entire 16-house cul-de-sac! :D By the way, please let me know when you start training your cats to walk on a leash with you at Market Square (or, anywhere else, for that matter). I want to come laugh! :1rotfl: I did train my pair, long ago in St. Louis, to go out in the back yard while my wife and I were working there. They learned quickly that having the leash on was the signal that they'd go out. But, then they'd go sit under the forsythia bush and never come out until we dragged them out to go back in! Typical of the feline mind, though! My Omega would love to get out, but I think she'd absolutely freak out at a leash! SWR :beer3: |
Omega would look like this cat??

Now, this is not a good idea for the Villages squares. |

the buffalo were living on land - land can be used to put up homes - homes can be used to bring cash - cash is king! |

Why is it when someone suggests a change in TV people start screaming "you knew the rules when you bought here!!!!", BUT
When someone talks about bringing their best friend (doggie) to the square, people scream, CHANGE the rules.. no dogs at the Square!! So which is it? |

We take our two Yorkies to the square, park, watch people and sit in our golf cart with them. We do not take them out of the cart. I would be a most unhappy owner if that privilege was to change.

Dogs should be banned from the squares!!!!!!!!!!!!

And amenities should be used for bowling alleys, not golf courses and car repairs in the driveway should be ok and modifications to any home should be allowed and and and and dogs should be welcome in the villages!! |
This is kinda like gas carts vs electric carts . . .

On many occasions, I've seen well-mannered dogs at the Town Squares with people lined up to admire and pet them. Such a relaxed and friendly environment. And people walk away with a big smile on their face after petting a dog.
Dogs bring a lot of joy to a lot of people. As long as people and dogs are well mannered they should be welcome at the Squares. Both people and dogs without manners should be banned. I'm hiding under the bed now. :throwtomatoes: |
Are dogs animals?
Can we always trust what an animal will do? |

IT WAS TRUE YESTERDAY , ITS TRUE TODAY , AND WILL BE TRUE TOMMORROW.......... I was looking at a picture of my class reunion (tintype) and I noticed that there were three people in the picture that had little plastic bags on their right hands and leashes in their left, their scholastic standing was at the bottom of the class.....the fact that their were only nine in the class is of little consequence...To be fair I should point out that five are fishermen... let me say that I don't partake of either side , Thats why I was president of the class....Not because I was smarter , Its because I was different ,, I remain so to this day. NO DOGS IN THE TOWN SQUARES........ I thank you...... Fumar the magnificent |
Amenities used for bowling, not golf???
Boy Howdy. I can see a huge uprising about to happen. I am joining Barefoot under the bed.:popcorn::popcorn: |

Theoretically, dog's could be a real problem on the square. But are they? If they were, Morse the Magnificent, (Fumar's bro?), no doubt would ban them. Would he not?
So, why are we complaining about ...nothing? ...and, doesn't JimJoe have a point that we tell people not to come here and try to change the rules and then we try to change the rules we don't like? ... and, TH, aren't people animals? Do you always trust them? Even Fumar? even ...me? ... and Fumar, was that you there last night at the Rocky & the Rollers' concert? Shouldn't you have been there? p.s., I do not bring my dog to the squares because he's too small and might be trampled or trip someone. |
In late March the wife and I were at Lake Sumter square and the Greyhound rescue people were there in search of donations. While one of the dogs was checking out some of the doves in the shrubs the bird tried to take flight but was snatched out of the air by one of the dogs. By the time they got the bird out of the dogs mouth it was dead. There were many people observing this event and when the bird was found to be dead many of the young ladies there started to sob as if they had just witnessed a murder. I assume donations went down after that but as far as dogs at the squares we can take or leave it.

Personally, My wife, and I, enjoy seeing the dogs, and most are quite well behaved, and that alone is refreshing.
However, at Market Square recently, we witnessed one of the larger dogs, go after one of the little dogs, and it was quite disturbing, and quite noisey. Now I'm not a lawyer, but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, and it would not surprise me one bit if anything does happen regarding any banning of dogs, it would have something to do with lawsuits. Especially if somebody should get bitten while trying to separate a dog fight. |
I sure enjoy these Dog threads. Pass the popcorn please:popcorn::popcorn:
