Chop House

We'll be there on opening day for our anniversary. I hope the steaks are really good.

JSR22 07-15-2019 06:58 PM

The menu looks terrific. Need 8 for a res.

JoMar 07-15-2019 09:02 PM

Ate at the Chop House in Dayton Ohio last night. Shrimp in the shrimp coctail were rubbery but the cocktail sauce was wonderful. The steak was seasoned well and tasted great but was difficult to cut, suspect a knife that was not up to the task. The salad and potato were good but nothing special. Server was great, facility was great. Should be a great addition to TV. There was a JAlexanders down the street and it was tempting but wanted to try a Chop House

Taltarzac725 07-15-2019 09:21 PM

The employees bosses were having a big pow wow in the lanai area when I golf carted by around about 11:45 this morning.

They are all in uniforms. Or at least the employees looked to be.

I don't think this is part of that chain, this is independent and owned by FMK who runs 4 of the country clubs around here as well as Bluefin in Brownwood

Not sure how they can use the logo and the name if not a franchise. Will know when we see the menu since they are all the same from what I saw online. The franchisee in Dayton owned 3 other restuaraunts in the area and the Chop House was but one. I am familiar with the and the ownership and they are smart business folks so taking a National Franchise if available and affordable would make sense, for anyone.

JSR22 07-16-2019 05:51 AM

It is not part of the franchise. The name is Chop House at Lake Sumter. It is a different menu. It is on their FB page.

Bogie Shooter 07-16-2019 06:56 AM

How can a comparison be made between two restaurants, one in Ohio & one in Florida??

B-flat 07-16-2019 07:30 AM

My understating that there is a Chop House going into Ocala. That one may be part of the chain and seems to me Chop House could be a pretty generic name. Meanwhile, we used to visit the Davenport area and while staying there we went to a small chain called Manny’s Original Chop house in Haines City, we always had a great meal there.

Just sign of reviews to come.Their not even open

Chi-Town 07-16-2019 08:11 AM

Chop House is a generic term for a certain type of restaurant. So having Chop House as part of the name does not group all into a chain. Google will show you that name is everywhere and unrelated.

FMK Restaurants

Chop House at Lake Sumter

Chi-Town 07-16-2019 10:59 AM

A good start is a chop house menu selection. So far so good.

"FMK Restaurant group is excited to announce, Chop House at Lake Sumter, its newest concept located in The Villages, Florida with a planned opening of early Summer 2019. Chop House at Lake Sumter will provide an elegant menu with a focus on serving aged steaks, pork chops, chicken, as well as seafood"

Just a thought, the best steak house in the US, Peter Luger charges $84.00/ for a steak for two--they have a six month wait list

Now some of the clubs here charge $38.00+ for a steak--here's the ?--how many people do you think would pay that kind of $$$ for a good steak in TV

Without support, the hope for a good steak house here will be nothing but a pipe dream

Hope it works

JSR22 07-17-2019 01:18 PM

Chop House menu is on their FB page. Entree's under 30 with the exception of a few prime choices that will be MP. The menu selection looks good to me. Looking forward to going there. Peter Luger's prices would not work here and especially because you need to pay cash.

Aloha1 07-17-2019 04:23 PM

Rooting for their success and hoping they add rib eye to the menu. As for Pete Lugers, buy a bottle of their signature steak sauce at Publix and get a prime steak at Fresh Market or Costco and enjoy! A heck of a lot cheaper than going to NYC.

Chatbrat 07-17-2019 05:29 PM

no one who really knows uses any steak sauce on a truly good steak--the absolute best steaks for sale in this area are @ Sam's prime counter 2" thick ribeyes or humongous tomahawks--making a good or super steak isn't rocket science
1)prime meat @ room temp
2) sear each side @ 1000 degrees one minute
3 )remove set aside
4) place back in heat @ 450 smothered in butter till internal temp hits 110
5) tent 10 minutes

as good as Peter Luger

JSR22 07-17-2019 06:13 PM

I like Costco prime better than Sam's prime. Costco's rib caps are wonderful.

Chatbrat 07-17-2019 07:05 PM

Sam's is here Costco isn't , we buy Mercedes because we never have to set foot in a dealership in Orlando

JSR22 07-17-2019 07:14 PM

Orlando

I am happy to drive to Orlando for Costco, because of Millenia Mall and Capital Grille. I like nice department stores and boutiques.

We’ve been to Capital Grille here in the northeast. It’s pricey and we’ve only been a couple of times in 5 years for special occasions. Great steaks at about $60 per steak. A 22 oz Rib eye will set you back $59. Then there’s the 2 pound dry aged porter house for $78. I’m getting hungry writing about it.

The topic is the new "Chop House" restaurant in The Villages. It would be more useful if the posts were limited to those persons who have actually experienced the new restaurant.

If you want to have a general discussion about where to get good steaks, feel free to start another thread.

Anybody eaten at the Chop House yet???

Unless there was a private soft opening, website say Chop House opens July 22,

Chatbrat 07-18-2019 06:48 AM

As long as its not a chain, it might have a chance, hope they sell steaks by the pound, 12 oz--24 oz, keep it a steak house--no prime rib

I know what you mean..........it's funny & sad at the same time.

Unfortunately, I don't think a higher-end priced house can survive here with retired budgets. There will probably be a weekly prime rib special for The Villagers.

Time will tell.

JSR22 07-18-2019 07:26 AM

Their menu is on their FB page. There are steaks, no prime rib, duck, veal, lamb shank, short rib, salmon, chicken and more Several prime cuts at MP.

ColdNoMore 07-18-2019 07:51 AM

I give it 18 months.

I don't believe there are enough non-tightwads in TV...to sustain a place like this. :duck:

Until such time however...it will be nice to have the choice.

Chatbrat 07-18-2019 08:36 AM

Kinda of reminds me of when I was in business, I said I would do a job for nothing--some people would say "too much"

Its not IMHO, the idea of being on a fixed income is an excuse--some how when a person hits 70+, the cheap side of the brain takes over

Chi-Town 07-20-2019 07:46 PM

Went past the Chop House last night, looked like they were having a soft opening. Driving past in the golf cart there was the distinct aroma of a steak house. That is a good sign.

Soft opening for family, friends equals to not open to public until tomorrow.
After all family and friends are not going to post all the things they did not go right during the nightmare of first week of business. Kinks take awhile to smooth out.

Chi-Town 07-21-2019 12:35 PM

They just opened a chop house in northwest suburban Chicago. My kid sent this picture of his meal. Mouth watering photo. Can't wait for LSL one to open.

Chop House at Lake Sumter is not part of The Chop House Chain. The restaurant in TV is independently owned and not the same menu.

Will that meal fit into my 1000 calorie per day diet?

Perhaps if you just gnaw on the bone and eat the broccoli plain. [emoji6][emoji3052]

I know. There must be a thousand "chop houses" around the country. It's a generic name to denote a certain type of restaurant. Some are in a local chain but most are independent. The one pictured is called 815 Chop House (815 is the area code for that location). Open a month and doing well.
