It's becasue of the environmentalist that we have to drill so deep. They do their best to stop all drilling. I say drill baby drill!!!

According to an interview that was apparently on Anderson Cooper 360, the blowout preventer had dead batteries and the company knew it. If true, this story will gain a lot of traction pretty quickly. This speaks to what the root of the problem is - ENFORCING CURRENT LAWS.

It's like the gun-control debate. Every time some criminal goes on a rampage there's a call for new laws, ignoring the fact that the criminal isn't following the OLD law, why would they follow the NEW law?

So here we have the regulation that says "gotta have blowout preventers". Fat lot of good it does with dead batteries.

It's really hard to comment on this. I see most posters are of the opinion that Waynet has "buyers remorse", but I have a suspicion that in light of Waynet's previous posts that it may be that Waynet does not believe our President is moving fast enough or forcefully enough in implementing the radical agenda that his far-left sycophant supporters felt he was hinting at, but not really defining, in his campaign for the office.

Please enlighten us as to the real meaning of your opening statement Waynet.

I agree Richie. I don't want to speak for you Wayne, but I have a feeling Wayne may think that Obama should get loud, or in the words of Spike Lee, "Obama's gotta go off."

The article says it better than I can. He was elected on the hope he could ,would change things. As far as I can tell that change has not come about. Some of you call it a radical agenda,I never understood that but it doesn't matter there will be no significant changes in policy or attitude and our country will continue to flounder and fail to meet it's goals and expectations.

Wont bug you Wayne, but dont you think a health bill that the citizens did not want, that did not address ANY costs, that jacked up the deficit a lot, that was conceived with payoffs and blackmail would be considered a bit radical ?

He got a law passed that will take over 1/6 of the U.S. economy and will put yours and everyones health care into the hand of unelected bureaucrats and fine you if you don't wish to participate.

He spent your great-grandchildren's legacy and increased the National Debt so that it will very soon be higher that the GNP.

He changed our nuclear policy to promise we would not use them in the event of chemical or biological attack and only launch in the event of a nuclear attack. Our adversaries are immensely relieved.

He's retreating from supporting Israel and joining Israel's enemies is denouncing Israel for protecting her own sovereignty. Again ours and Israel's enemies are much relieved and emboldened.

I'm sure there are more instances of his accomplishment and change that will gladden your heart. Do not be discouraged.

"Drill baby, drill!" was aimed at ANWAR... at least there, there would be no tar balls and things can be fixed if anything happened!

They drill wherever they can get permission from our brain-addled government bureaucrats. There are plenty of less dangerous sites they would love to drill if given clearance.

On this point I fully agree with you. There are a number of things we need to at before anyone goes off the deep end blaming BP or Obama:

1. Were there measures that should or could have been taken to prevent this tragedy? We do not know yet despite all the talking heads on television.
2. We need to eliminate the ‘us and them’ game. It is not productive. We need a team jointly chaired by the USCG and BP working together and bringing in every possible resource to deal with this problem - the great labs of Sandia, Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos perhaps?
3. We must somehow bring to a halt the political grandstanding that has been engaged in by virtually every politician with the exception of Bobby Jindalh, the governor of Louisiana who has been stating from day one what LA needs and acting proactively to save the LA coast despite the lackadaisical response from the Corps of Engineers and the EPA. Bobby Jindalh has been the one person who has emerged from this debacle as a leader.
4. Stop the nationalize, kick ass and other meaningless BS. We can sort that out later. In the meantime we have a job to do- Let’s do it, TOGETHER!

This is not an Obama problem, a Bush problem or a BP problem. This is a problem a problem for the United States as a whole.

Yes!... This IS a problem for the United States. But the buck stops with Obama. I don't think anybody is blaming him for the accident, but so far, I don't see where he is handling the fix. I would love to see him finally do something that would hiint of something constructive for the US. Show me he can do something without a scripted teleprompter in front of him. Show me he is not just a bunch of talk of hope and change. Show me he can fix this catastrophe! He wanted this job, don't tell me he didn't think there would be days like this!

What wild statement are you talking about? I simply said my confidence in Obama is waning. I am losing confidence in him. What is so wild? You want a wild statement....I am losing confidence in the U.S.A. to solve our problems. The Gulf of Mexico is a disgrace. Great countries with great thinkers would have the problem solved.Action would have been taken immediatly. There would have been no party bickering,no blame game,get the thing solved. We are living on past accomplishments. What have we done as a country lately that is great? What problems have we solved that have impacted the world or the USA or a state or a city? What great legislation has been passed ? I don't think it matters DEms or Repubs.they are all bought and sold. Just look at the contracts BP has and tell me we are above board.

Maybe if we did more of this, we wouldn't have states like Arizona writing laws because the Federal Govt refuses to enforce what is already the law of the land, or have a need for "Comprehensive Immigration Reform".

If we went after the fraud in Medicare and fixed what Gov't already has the power to control, then maybe we wouldn't have needed massive healthcare reform that we can't afford.

Finally, if Congress did more oversight then we wouldn't need all of the hearings to assign blame after the fact. There is plenty of blame to share for the mess our country is in, but IMO, a lot of it belongs in DC and is shared by both Parties.

I beg to differ.....the rights to off shore drilling space are purchased. So BP wanted this space. In the US there are NOT plenty of less dangerous places....only ANWAR. Of course the last Repub ticket tried to say that the US had more domestic oil than the Middle East base on the oil shale in some state.....let me see which one was that? Now I remember Colorado.

HA HA....that has been in a BOOM and BUST cycle since I moved here 40 years ago...ok at least since I was in college.

As for voting in November, I probably will not vote in the presidential election. Obama has disappointed me but I don't see a republican who is any better. As I said earlier I do not think it matters anymore. They are ALL bought and sold by big business,big oil,wall street etc. just looking at the candidates in South Carolina and California makes me wonder what happened to this country. We had every advantage a country could have and our greed, selfishness and false sense of superiority has finally done us in.

Not sure how I feel about someone who gives up,especially on his country !

We do'nt have any real original thinkers that I can see. I haven't heard an original idea in a long time. It's the same old party crap over and over from both sides. My confidence in our ability to solve even the simplest problems is gone. We are awash in cronyism,greed,false promises,and above all corruption at all levels. As for quitting on my country if everyone decided not to vote that would be a clear message.

This is another post of you attacking the members who respond to you on TOTV instead of continuing the debate. We are only people out here expressing opinions about this once, and who knows for how much longer, great nation of ours. We can talk about what we think and hopefully, if we're articulate, or post a relevant link, maybe sway someone to seriously consider our views. I don't think it helps to flog the posters.

Sorry Waynet; that's the one great flaw of blogging is the interpretation of what we've read, and the tone of the statement, may not be the thought and the tone intended by the author. I assumed that this being your thread you were referring to the posters who commented on your original thought.
I'm sorry I misunderstood your meaning.

l agree with your premise, then, that politicians are basically self-serving. If we're lucky we elect people who in the process of securing their careers, actually represent and promote the ideals of the people they serve.

I have concluded that the President is not one of these people. He, I believe, is trying to fundamentally change the fabric of our free nation into a nation that our founders would scarcely recognize. A nation where we are to look to national government for our wants and needs instead of just their protection as was intended by our founders.

I'm not really sharp, but I do make some observations.

Why does Obama have to run down to the Gulf every week and make another speech? What is that accomplishing? What happened happened. I'm pretty sure that BP didn't deliberately cause this catastrophe nor anyone else. It happened...concentrate on the problem and a solution. Listen to all suggestions, even those from the non-experts. Don't just assume that whatever they come up with won't work. Trying some of the suggestions just might. What they're doing now doesn't seem to be getting it done, anyway, so what could it hurt. Pointing fingers and kicking butt sure isn't doing it.

Meanwhile, send ALL the politicians (including Obama) to all the beaches affected. Give them gloves, protective gear, training (whatever that translates to be), a shovel, a plastic bag and tell them to get to work on the cleanup. After all is said and done and the problem has been alleviated, then figure out how to avoid a repeat. (What they used to address as "root cause" at our plant.)
