Have you eaten at the Food Trucks?
The two at Marsh Bend. Edna's and Rita's (Mexican). It's really nice!! We had the beef brisket sandwich from Edna's. It's was excellent!!! Fries were really good too. The taco's at Rita's were good (but the winner was the beef brisket). They have a pavilion that serves beer, wine and soda's. It's a great addition!!!

The food may be great, but how are these food truck owners sharing in the cost of the infrastructure? It looks like The Villages is paying for the real estate they occupy and providing tables, chairs, and shelter for the diners. And, who pays to clean up the trash? I would rather see free standing restaurants that pay their own way.

Any proof that they're not paying Da Family...to be where they are selling food? |
I'm just asking. I wonder, if someone can just drive a truck into The Villages and sell food, won't that discourage businesses from building restaurants?

Better believe the developers get a cut from every business operating in TV one way or another.
|
I am sure they do pay something for the right to setup in TVs.

Most likely no one here knows for a fact if/how much the food trucks are paying Da Family, but based on they're usual business model it's pretty safe to say...the trucks aren't parked there for free. |
How come we went from how's the food, to who pays to park there.

Went there last week with 2 other couples. All complimented the food and dining area. Great addition to the area. And for the previous poster, we picked up after ourselves so you were not charged.

How do you get there? Edna's and Cattail Recreation center do not appear on any gps apps, including The Villages GPS.

It's in the same parking lot as the Marsh Bend golf course (18 holes that are all 100 yds or less). Take Morse (turns into Warm Springs) toward Fenney. After you cross over the Turnpike you'll get to the stoplight where they are building the Everglades Rec. Center. Turn Right. Follow that road. You'll go through a gate that isn't active yet. Stay on that road. IT winds around... you'll eventually get to Cattail. (as you're driving you can see Marsh Bend golf course on your right). The food truck are in the parking lot at the back of that lot.

I had the shrimp and grits, it was tasty but a very small portion for $12.50. The pulled pork I heard was tasty and the portion did look decent.

Thanks Northwoods!

It's kind of funny that people today are excited about food trucks filling in for restaurants when ten years ago the excitement was for a new Olive Garden on 466.

The food is good but pricey for having to sit outside in the heat, rain and lightening.

Wondering if these food trucks take Visa?
(Mrs Spoiler doesn’t let me carry much cash....) |
Food trucks
I did not work & save to get to the place where I could enjoy retirement by eating out of a food truck, outside, in the heat, sharing my food with bugs & mosquitoes.
|
When and where are the food trucks located? I would like to try them out sometime.

No, I have not eaten at the food trucks, and I don't intend to. Is this the future of TV fine dining. OMG, people getting excited about food trucks. All the restaurants paying big bucks to do business in TV must be thrilled. Food trucks are fine at fairs, sporting events and other temporary venues, but a permanent fixture. I DON'T THINK SOOOOOO! Not for me. Just my opinion....

Our golf group ate there Saturday after golf. It's a very pleasant setting with indoor and outdoor seating in a nice tree-shaded area with a view of the pitch and putt course.
The food was good, moderately priced. Several had the Mexican.... quesadillas and enchiladas. Portions were decent and food was reasonably tasty. Several had the beef brisket from the Edna's truck and it was very good. You order, they give you a beeper then you come pick up your food. It all worked very smoothly. There were a few flies in the outdoor area but none more than you would expect. Beer was a little pricey by Villages standards. A Draft Yuengling was $3.05 and a draft Stella was about $5. They have music several days a week...I think I heard Sunday, Wed, Fri. It's a nice neighborhood setting for those that live in the South area and those who golf/visit there. To me, it did have a feeling/vibe different than the traditional/original Villages. Not good or bad, just different. Much more of an emphasis on outdoors/nature than golf/pickleball/pools. It's certainly worth the trip down there to check it out along with all the other new stuff going in. |
How About Real Restaurants
When are the real restaurants and shopping centers coming down here ? sure the food trucks are a nice idea
if you are Mexican or like Mexican food, looks to me as they are catering to the workers whom are mostly working with the builders as they seem to be mostly Mexican of course . Now there are lots of promises but not to much action for home owners still waiting for the golf cart bridge to join from Fenney to Brownwood so we can get our golf carts to Brownwood , but all I here is its coming. But we can build 300 homes a month or more which seems to have no problem being completed. But as for our restaurants and bridges will still have to Wait and keep driving to 466 as everyone shops at Wal-Mart. |

Don't be sorry...be happy. |
So the Edna's on the Green building is not air conditioned?

It was open air on Saturday. The sides can pull down, but, I don’t know if they will have any climate control for heat or cool. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Rita's at food pavilion
My wife and I tried Rita's last week. Bar none, the WORST food we have ever had at any restaurant. The fly's were the icing on the experience.
|
We ate there last week. We had chips with steak, brisket sandwich and a tamale and tap water. It was all very tasty. The venue was nice, the music superb and the people happy. Two things I wish were different, the bugs as we went home with several bites and the prices for us were high. It was over $30 for these dishes and we went home hungry....and we're not big eaters. But, we would go back, take bug spray and go for an appetizer before dinner else where. For you with larger pocket books..the food is great and you'll enjoy it for dinner.
|
So expensive! I’ll never go back.

The world is changing, upscale food trucks are becoming extremely popular. Many entrepreneurial graduates of high end culinary schools see them as a quick affordable opportunity to be their own boss and live their dream. It's a win/win...the owner doesn't have to deal with all that goes along with hiring and managing a staff and we the public have access to outstanding food at a location that otherwise could be devoid of eating establishments. Put to rest any thoughts that they are looking to dodge legitimate business expenses...they're in it for the long haul and given the long hours they put in very few, if any will knowingly put themselves or their truck at risk.
|
We live in Marsh Bend and think the food trucks are a great addition to our area. Food does seem pricey and drinks as well. But it's a nice place to drive to in golf cart and meet people, listen to music. Bring bug spray!
I do hope they change out the trucks. We could use pizza and ice cream destinations. |
