Wendy’s

Does anyone know when the Wendy’s in Trailwinds
open?

I haven’t been in a Wendy’s in years.

The very construction and real estate knowledgeable counter person at the gas station next to it :D said around 4 weeks.

There is one on 441 near Spanish Springs if you need a preview. :)

Thanks.

Just curious.

I was in the Lady Lake Wendy's about 3 weeks ago, and an employee told me they were in the process of training the new hires to work at the new restaurant to be opened in September. They must be slow learners if it is going to take another 4 weeks to open.

Taltarzac725 08-22-2019 08:33 AM

I have not been to a Wendy's in years either. I wonder if this is a trend among Villagers?

Dave Thomas (Wendy’s father) was great at marketing his wendy’s Hamburger chain of restaurants. After his passing, there has been a “lull” but recently a bit of resurgence in Wendy’s. Obviously lots of completion in the fast food business. When still employed, I use to get a good salad and a bowl of chili to eat at my office or on the go and always found the food quite good for fast food. The Wendy’s on 441 is too far for me to go for fast food. This will soon change so perhaps an occasional visit might be in order. Last time I went to Wendy’s (up north) they no longer had a fish sandwich and that was disappointing. Perhaps a local menu item. The frosty (ice cream) might be in order on a hot day.

I went to Wendy's in Palm Harbor, FL once in a while but this was primarily because my nieces Tal and Tar and my nephew Zak sometimes wanted that for dinner on either the Friday or Saturday night they were over to use the pool and sleep over.

Also went to other other fast food places close in Palm Harbor.

Now in the Villages we stick to the Publix deli, Subway, Beef O'Brady's, NYPD Pizzza or other restaurants near CR466.

Really miss The Lucky Dill in Palm Harbor. Home - The Lucky Dill Deli HUGE sandwiches at a good price.

September is only 10 days away. Times flies as we age. :D Maybe the "the very construction and real estate knowledgeable counter person at the gas station next to it" was off by a couple weeks. Sheesh! Imagine that. :1rotfl:

The thing I remember most clearly about The Lucky Dill is how cold it was in there. I once went back out to the car to get a blanket. Florida restaurants all seem to be over A/C'd but I think Lucky Dill was the coldest place we ever ate dinner in.

(We had a winter place in The Landings in Highland Lakes, just off Rt 19 and Nebraska, for several years. We love TV but hubby misses being close to Phillies Spring Training.)

The only fast food place I use these days is Wawa's, just looked @ their website, look @ their employee benefits--they know how to treat their workers/partners

I remember that area of Palm Harbor. I would often take the back road from the Palm Harbor Library on Nebraska to our home off of Alderman so as to avoid 19 which I hated driving on. I volunteered at the Palm Harbor Library from 2000 to 2003 and also at East Lake Community Library about the same time but was in love with the Tarpon Springs Public Library. Really liked their staff and their DVD collection.

Tal Tar and Zac often got Burger King rather than the Lucky Dill or Wendy's.

We lived there from 1996 to 2005 and I would often go back to housesit for a woman and her husband and their two Westies a mother and her son named Chuck and Heather. This was from about 1998 through 2011 or so. They lived in the Hamlet in Bentley Park.

Wendy's is one of the very few fast-food places whose beef is never frozen -- always fresh.

For fast-food chilli, I think they do a pretty good job with it. Also, their salads are pretty good, too. I happen to really enjoy their apple/pecan salad (without the bleu cheese).

Seriously, as fast-food places go, Wendy's is pretty decent.
:icon_hungry:
We aren't talking about or comparing it to a Ruth's Chris or Morton's, you know! :icon_wink:

Rarely go to Burger King, McDonalds, Steak and Shake, KFC, etc.

Did go often to Chick-Fil-A as One Blood would often have a Big Red Bus at one of them and you could get a coupon to a free chicken sandwich if you donated at the Bus.

retiredguy123 08-22-2019 03:11 PM

I like Wendy's chili because it is always hot. Unlike most other restaurants that serve it luke warm, even when you specifically ask for it to be hot.

Have you tried PDQ in the Colony Shopping Center for Chicken, etc. (they have number of different choices)?

Everything is freshly made, they make their own sauces, and are open every day, unlike Chick-Fil-A.

I have heard a lot of great things about PDQ.

OMG Rt. 19! Dan was watching Spring Training coverage on Comcast Sportsnet one day and the guys were sitting around talking about how great Clearwater is and one of them says, "Yeah, just stay off Rt. 19!" I liked the area a lot but I don't miss the traffic. (Having lived in L.A. and Philly for much of my adult life, I laugh when I hear complaints about "snow bird" traffic in TV!)

I drove past some really horrific crashes on US 19 as well as on Alderman.

I had to drive around a lot as one of my things was taking care of Tar and Zak when Tal was a baby/toddler and one of my four sister-in-laws owned a consignment shop on US 19. I did the soccer, gymnastics, swimming, bus stop and other routines. And a lot of babysitting.

A trip to Burger King as a way to get them to behave as a future reward often worked.

Gpsma 08-22-2019 07:47 PM

Oh boy o boy...cant wait until wendys opens. Getting tired of the $1 tacos at BK...need really quality fast food.

thelegges 08-23-2019 03:05 AM

I really can’t think of the last time we have eaten at any fast food. As a young child we went to the opening of Mickey Ds, our parents said any time a French Fry looks the same 6 months later, you should just walk away.
Our children and grands rarely eat fast food.
Even when we travel we take food with us. The sodium, additives and preservatives just real havoc for us.

Chatbrat 08-23-2019 04:04 AM

Remember the bumper stickers "pray for me I have to drive on RTE 19"- lived in Trinity for a short time--its not fast food but Wawa is offer sizzles @ 2 for $4.00--good breakfast sandwich

I certainly recall those and it seems like it is still one of the most dangerous roads in the US.

There was a Wendy's on it I think that I sometimes would go to. Wendy's 34092 Us Hwy 19 N: fast food, burgers, chicken, chicken sandwiches, salads, Frosty, breakfast, open late, drive thru, meal deals in Palm Harbor, Florida

'''Death Valley''' drivers say stretch of U.S. 19 is extremely dangerous

Now there's a real oxymoron. (quality - fast food)

Number 10 GI 08-23-2019 04:31 PM

I haven't eaten at Wendy's in ages. For fast food, their burgers aren't bad but I don't care for their fries.

EdFNJ 08-23-2019 05:20 PM

Wendy's ain't cheap. Wife had a half-salad and I had a grilled chicken sandwich combo and it was $14 ! Maybe the new one will give a senior discount! :1rotfl:

I go to the Wendy's up on 441 every couple of weeks; I'll be glad when Trailwinds opens up.

I love PDQ. We had them in Tampa & when they opened here I was so happy.

A lot of their food choices are great. I love the Meditteranean salad and the bowls.
Their chicken is fabulous.

You must have ordered a combo and then even upped the size for $14!

Next time order a Jr. hamburger with lettuce, tomato and onion, a value fries and a senior drink and you can get by for about $3.00!

The only senior discount Wendy's gives is a senior drink.

I usually agree with everything you say, but their chili is VERY good and I have been a fan since they opened their first place in downtown Columbus, Ohio near my first job.

If you want to save money, whenever you go to a fast food restaurant, always read the value menu or dollar menu. Way cheaper than the regular menu.

GrumpyOldMan 08-24-2019 04:26 AM

I used to eat at Wendys regularly, but that was when they had a salad buffet (that goes back a while!). To me their food seems to be generally better than BK or McD's. But still "fast food", and the wife and I have for the past few years been making an effort to eat more fresh unprocessed foods, and so the only "fast food" places we frequent lately are Moe's (for the salad) and Subway (for the chopped salad).

I would really like to see Wendys return to the salad buffet - I guess it wasn't profitable.

Yea, senior drink = tiny drink. I know, it can be refilled. No, we had exactly what I listed and "small." Half a salad there is up to $8 and my combo around $7. Their "junior" burger isn't enough to fill my right thumb but I generally order grilled CHICKEN. :)

Their salad bar was the best. They slowly removed stuff then got rid of it. Even their "looks like plastic" pudding was good.

Here is an update. The new Wendy's is still not open. I would call it a nothing burger. What are they waiting for?

PrudentLifer 10-01-2019 02:57 PM

My go to yummy is the spicy chicken sandwich, two please.

I was in the 441 Wendys two weeks ago and asked when will Trialwinds open, and the woman said, ask that lady she'll be the manager. So I did, and she said Tuesday Oct 1. So it should of opened today, I'm glad I read this thread because I was just about to go over there and get some chili, I love their Chili. Maybe they'll open for dinner today.

retiredguy123 10-23-2019 09:57 AM

The new Wendy's on 466A is now open! I had the chili today and it was very good.

splashes 10-23-2019 12:56 PM

I think it opened yesterday Tuesday 10-22

John_W 10-23-2019 04:26 PM

I had the chili today as well, it is excellent as always. The place as usual is too small. I thought Burger King was too small, but they have them beat. I guess when the opening goes by, it will be better. I was taking my food home, but I looked around and saw no tables available, I got the last spot in the parking lot, and the drive-thru was around the building. Also once you get inside, there is no room for a waiting line. Two people can wait in line, after that, you run into a divider. Next up, Taco Bell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
