Hurricane Parties!

Who's hosting a Hurricane Party?!

The last one I went to was BYOB and the price of admission was a roll of toilet paper!

Chatbrat 08-29-2019 07:37 AM

There will be a free urinalysis party conducted by all local sheriff's--remember all those partyers, who were celebrating Katrina and ended up spending a week in the super dome

bagboy 08-29-2019 09:33 AM

Hurricane parties are for immature children with no investment in their life yet in anything that can be damaged or destroyed by a severe storm. Neighbors can help neighbors, but the best bet is to stay sober during a storm.

Chatbrat 08-29-2019 10:08 AM

So right, a lot of people stayed in a beach front hotel during Camille to party--their bodies were never found--

graciegirl 08-29-2019 11:07 AM

If you all don't stop eating all the Hurricane snacks, you won't fit into the little helicopter rescue basket.

If one thinks about leaving one must be keenly aware of......doing it...SOONER than later.

Roads out are quickly turned into very long parking lots.
Most people wait too long to decide to leave.

If you do not have a full tank of gas, now, you are not ready to leave. You can safely assume no gas availability along the way in the state of FL.
During Irma gas was difficult to come by as far north as Atlanta!!

I personally would rather hunker down here at home in TV than in a car on the road some where.

Guess our neighborhood will be considered immature, we are all working together to get everything secured on Saturday and the party will be Sunday. Oh yeah, average age is 72.

Chatbrat 08-29-2019 04:32 PM

Total amateur hour, make sure to write your SS# on your feet--hurricane parties are for people who go sky diving without parachutes

Since the storm won't make landfall until Monday pm or Tuesday am, I don't think you can puff your chest out for "riding out the storm partying" Once upon a time I thought you mature. Storms must affect people differently. People will lose homes, people will lose lives... have a great time.

Where can you go ? All of Florida is in the cone. Once you get north of Florida rooms in hotels etc will be scarce since this is Labor Day weekend. Also if you leave then you have to worry about traffic and gas availability to get back home

Can I come to your neighborhood party? Nothing immature about having fun, as long as you don't neglect your responsibilities.

Velvet 08-29-2019 07:24 PM

Whatever it takes to get you through a storm safely and happily. If the choice is staying anxious and alone or with others exchanging stories and food, either way won’t make a difference on the storms’ outcome.

But you only need a parachute if you wanna go a 2nd time.

We are having a hurricane party. It is not a party loaded with booze to get drunk. It is a time for neighbors to get together to feel comforable for what we will all experience. Some are nervous, others have been through a lot and can share their calmness. Just being good neighbors.

Marathon Man 08-31-2019 06:39 AM

Some harsh comments on here just because people still want to get together have a little fun. Don't have a party if you don't want to. No need to be a jerk to those that are.

Agree.

EviesGP 08-31-2019 09:20 AM

Yeah...what they said. Just a little harmless fun. Oh, and every time a lawn chair flies by, everyone takes a sip! :) Cheers! And be safe!

Velvet 08-31-2019 09:32 AM

Lol

rsecord 08-31-2019 10:22 AM

Just returned from ABC store and Lowes, we are good.

Ah... let see him try that in the same speed winds at 40 below, and snow and ice, which we call blizzards....

Marathon Man 08-31-2019 11:39 AM

Fossil remains prove that many herds of dinosaurs gathered together in what appears to be "asteroid parties". The start of a tradition.

We're having a "get together" no one will bash that.

graciegirl 08-31-2019 11:58 AM

Last Hurricane, granddaughter encouraged HER college friends who now live on the coast to stay with us as they were apprehensive. We had met her but not him. They were very nice, but they came two days before Irma and cooking for Millennials is sometimes tricky. It was nice, but added to the stress.

We are celebrating doing this Hurricane in our comfortable clothes, you all know what I mean.

Better than a party.

Velvet 08-31-2019 01:33 PM

Looks like there is a chance you just might have to cancel them hurricane parties ....

Goldwingnut 08-31-2019 02:07 PM

Take the time to get things in order in preparation for the pending storm. - Check, done.
Keep a close eye on the weather forecast. - Check, done.

All set, what to do now?
Choice #1, sit and worry and fret over what is outside my control.
Choice #2, be with friends, find comfort in their company, wait out the storm and pray for the best, and have a drink or two.

I think I'll take the Florida route and go with choice #2, now pass another beer, please.
