Best walking shoes
I have been wearing Abeo walking shoes for the past 6 years, but the new ones have changed. Now I must find something different. Suggestions please and thank you.

I've enjoyed Abeo and found the new ones to not be as good, also. The ones I had previously were discontinued when I got them, on clearance. So sad, they were almost perfect.
You might try New Balance - the Postal Worker model. Very firm, well-cushioned but not "stretchy" since they're leather uppers. They have the solid fixed rollbar like the Abeos have at the back of the instep to improve spine impact and standing pitch. They also have a wider toe box, which is SO important for people who haven't caused their feet to become permanently deformed by wearing shoes that get narrow or even come to a point at the toes (typical closed-toe high heels) all their lives. You can probably try them on at an actual New Balance store, I don't think multi-brand stores or department stores carry them. |
I also like Skechers. I find them to be well padded and good quality for a reasonable price.

I switched to Sketchers several years ago. They have a roomier "toe box", much more comfortable with a heel and sole construction that is much more durable and thick!
|
Skechers also come in wide widths up to 4E and that's what I get because of wider feet.

Another vote for Skechers, for both walking and golf shoes.

I used to love the skechers rocker shoes but then they had that big class action lawsuit and they had to discontinue making them. I have a neuroma on my left foot, and my toes are almost the same length instead of progressing in a curve or slanted. So that's why I need the bigger toe box, plus the metatarsal support for the neuroma to keep my toes from crunching together. Various injuries when I was younger require that I have shoes to support a proper posture when standing - the rockers pretty much forced you to stand erect or you'd tip off balance (that's why people were getting injuries - they weren't listening to their bodies tell them to stand up straight!)
Once those were retired from their line I tried other models but none of them were good with my toe spread. That's why I switched to the New Balance, and then I found the Abeos on clearance and found those to be even better. Whatever you pick, make sure you get either real leather uppers, or cloth. Do NOT get a fake leather upper or you'll end up with super-stinky feet, or worse - fungal infections. |
My mother loved SAS, but I go with a good quality running sneaker, I have found these tend to have the arch support I need and great cushioning. I have 4 pair from 4 different companies, all are very good.

I like New Balance so I buy them for someone else and watch them walk. I'm usually tired when they are done.

Rockport Pro Walker, M7100. You can still buy them on Amazon, although I think they have been discontinued for years. I like them because you can get a narrow width.

I think our feet change with time and age (as do the manufacturers). Example for me is I wear a certain brand and ordered a pair like my previous ones but they felt more narrow. I contacted the company and they told me they'd changed manufacturers. Many shoes are made in China and the result is---well you know the answer to that.
Shoes are all individual--what feels wonderful for your friend will be terrible for you. So go to a store and try on a bunch and whatever feels good go with that. Ask them "IF" you don't wear them outside can you return them if something changes. Then wear the shoes "in the house" and see how they work. |
We walk 5 to 10 miles 5 days a week. Brooks is our choice, have tried aysis, and many others, always back to brooks. No knee, hip or back pain. Not only walking but that interval run.

Ive had Rockport Walkers and New Balance. Switched this year to Orthofeet.. Incredible, Positive difference.

I recommend Brooks Ariel.

For women (sorry guys) -- if the price is no object, Famolare shoes have made a comeback.
They are nothing short of terrific! |
I haven’t tried them yet, someone just told me about On The Cloud. I’m going to try them next time

Thanks for reminding me of the name Cowgirl! I was talking about those when this thread first appeared, to my sister and we were trying to remember the name to see if they were still around. |
