Let me introduce myself
A full time Villager for the past 3 years. A working man for 7 years, a union shop steward for 22 years and a union organizer for the remaining 23. I love working people and I love living here. I'm not here to organize anyone nor change minds, only to live the rest of my
life the best way I know how. Loving my wife and loving my life. I spent my working career improving families working conditions and improving their lives. I firmly believe and always have that the working men and women of all creeds and ethnicities that comprise our country are the firm backbone that has made America great for the past 250 years. Please, not to be taken as a political statement, only a human one. I'm here to debate in a non-political way, with all due respect. Let the game begin, if you let me allow. |
Don't think this is the site to be doing that as it sounds pretty political to me. The moderators won't allow it to get to that. I suspect there's other social media sites locally that will allow your "social discourse".

:ohdear:

Try the villagesdotcom site that must not be mentioned. Lots of social discourse ( or is it disorder?) over there!!
|
Yes, here you are supposed to know what to say, I suppose, and don’t get it wrong!

I posted my doubts on here and boy was I flattened in a New York second. I thought I was asking reasonable questions and would be told that there was a huge spoof and someone was a dog in the woodshed, and for the first time in my life, I was beat up and criticized and put down and stomped on. I know now why, now that I have succumbed and am now part of the glory shouters. Funny how that is. Funny how that is. |
If there was anything I learned as a teacher was there is always more things to learn. Always happy to hear from you.

And see other posters almost every week in person for various amounts of time. We have been in Florida since 1996 and here in the Villages since June of 2005. |

Only from time to time will I want to enter into a social discourse in very generalized terms. I understand this site has a ban on political discourse and I will adhere to that policy. As countrymen and women we all share the same dreams and desire of prosperity for ourselves and our neighbors. Together we have achieved much since the Industrial Age began and in the same way we can achieve greater gains in this new Digital Age. Financial security for our elders is paramount and to achieve this our children and grandchildren must be guaranteed the same promises which were given to us. |

Been there done that. Too many trolls with not much to say. Nice to meet you Two Bills! |

Thank you Velvet! It's good to be here. |
Good Morning! Interesting and beautiful community we live in, that’s for sure. And, this online community is equally as interesting. Whether all believe it or not, we here are a sort of “family,” ...we may agree or disagree on things....but just about all return each day to see what’s going on. Not everyone in any family thinks the same and that’s what keeps things lively! Nice to have you here....😁

Perhaps he used the word "debate" instead of the word "discuss". You know - like neighbors in Florida's friendliest hometown are wont to do. Why not just take him at his word - he'd like to join in the discussions/debates that are part and parcel of this forum. Roundabouts, dog poop, etc. |

That's just a start. Isn't it more interesting not to have an all exclusive mutually pat on the back club? Intelligent discourse does not have to degenerate into a tit for tat contest. Besides, we all have this in common. The desire for lower expenses in our retirement years. |

Ok, I replied to another poster with a link to possibly solve his golf cart engine issue. It was subject to moderator review. Why???
MODERATOR, please help. |
Perhaps, I am guessing, because in debates you show an undue advantage? (Like a math prof at a casino.) Very clear, to the point and logical.

It's an introduction, a short background of myself, nothing more. |
BTW, I've blocked several posters, you know who you are. Right out of the gate you've shown an open hostility towards me personally that has no place on an open forum. Perhaps those involved should open their own forum elsewhere. I believe in an open debate without back handed compliments, mean sarcasm and the like. Now, it's time for my breakfast.

I have had to block a couple of dozen of posters. Fortunately most of these seem to have been banned from Talk of the Villages.
Good to see you posting though. I like to hear many different viewpoints on topics. One of my BAs is in Philosophy so I had a lot of training in logic. The other BA is in history (both U of NV, Reno) which did emphasize the need to check sources and their reliability as well as bias. MA is in librarianship ( U of Denver). Then I got a JD from the U of MN after I had worked as an indexer/abstractor for Information Access Company in Belmont, CA. I mostly abstracted regional business magazines for Area Business Data Bank. Created catalog records for all the computer databases on Westlaw around 1988-1991 for a national project while employed by the U of MN Law Library. SUNY at Buffalo Law Library was doing LEXIS. Also was a student and then student director for Legal Assistance to Minnesota Prisoners for Minnesota Correctional Facility--Stillwater while I was a student at the U of MN Law School. And did reference work at the Law Library there too. I am writing a book about what happened after that and leading up to events that occurred in New Orleans in 1991 and Reno in 1989 as well as Minnesota in 1990 and San Francisco in 1992. These are mostly connected to law library conventions and my forcing the issue of a niche I saw in practical information available to survivors/victims of crimes. Something I got interested in Reno in the last week of February in 1976 due to a widely publicized murder in Reno. Enough said. Many Villagers seem to know my story. |

It's nice to have a pensive educated person to talk with on a forum. Again, thank you for your warm engagement. We can only learn from each other through mutual respect and open minds. |
And, with that, this introductory thread will be closed.
As a reminder to all (and especially new) members..you might want to review the site guidelines as all moderator actions are governed by these guidelines. A few to point out...no political discussion, direct your comments to the topic and not the person, report objectionable posts or PM the moderator if you disagree with a moderator action (i.e. do not openly post your disagreement with moderator actions). We invite spirited, but civil, discussion. Sometimes there is a fine line between discussion and debate. Regards, Moderator |
