McDonalds vs Culvers
The other day, out-of-the-blue, DH, said "I'm in the mood for a Big Mac". Being the loving and devoted wife that I am I said: "Ewww, how can you eat that dogfood?" Sheepishly he said, well I've been seeing their commercials and since it's been about 10 or 15 years since we've been there ...
So I went out and got 2 Big Macs and a Fish sandwich and Fries. I then doubled back to Culver's and got a double cheeseburger with everything and a Fish sandwich and Fries. We did a taste testing. The Big Mac has the bottom bun, a burger, another piece of bread, then another burger and the rest of the stuff, followed by the top of the bun. The Culver's had only 2 pieces of bread (an improvement imho) yet it stood tall and proud next to the Big Mac. We both tasted -- the Culver's burger was head and shoulders better, in our opinion. The Fish Sandwich from McD's didn't stand a chance against the Culver's. Culvers beat it out by a mile both in looks and in taste. As far as the fries, I think McD's was somewhat better -- but only somewhat. Of course it's not a fair comparison since the fries at McD's are similar to shoestring style while the Culver's are crinkle cut. Still I think McD's was at least 10% tastier. I am NOT a fan of fast food but at least I can enjoy Culver's without feeling nauseous afterwards which had always happened to me after eating McDonald's. Plus Culver's has Cement Mixers (or is it Concrete Mixers?) -- regardless it's ice cream heaven - damn you Nucky for turning me on to this. Now that he got it out of his system, DH said he'll be happy to retry McD's in another 10 or 15 years. LOL |
Question...was the food carry out,
and did you do the taste test at home? |

You should have got the Egg McMuffin. That is the best thing sold at McDonald's. If you want a burger, go to Burger King and get a Whooper. If you want chili, go to Wendy's. If you want tacos, go to Taco Bell. You just need to know how to shop. I don't like anything at Culver's.

from tend lose a bit of pizzazz while traveling! Had a burger and fries in Culver’s last week, and I think their both better than Mc D’s! |
Why even think of eating this fast food junk--don't get it-it isn't rocket science to cook better food @ home--if you're looking for bargain basement food go to Sam's -they're food can't be beat

I agree Wendy’s chili is very good, but I would go to the Mexican restaurant in Colony plaza for a decent taco! Different strokes, for different folks! |

But it’s a good thing we all don’t like the same thing or we’d all be sitting in each other’s lap for lunch:icon_wink: |
After my knee jerk reaction-go to Wawa & get a pretzel; melt--OMG

The Hot Spot Has Changed BK. Culvers is great news and a nice place but WAWA IS THE NEW BOMB! I have Wawa on Da Brain! |
We Didn’t eat fast food growing up. As we got older there were mom & pop restaurants that food was homemade. Turn off at Culver’s is while better, the sodium and calorie count on anything.
But if you grew up eating fast food, I get it. While we have income to buy food wherever we want, I would rather spend it on quality, not quantity. |
Quarte pounder with cheese is good . Fries are the best. Egg Mcmuffin, Sausage egg and cheese biscuit. IMHO hard to beat items .
Like Culvers. Clean well trained employees . Burgers good but a bit overated. |

So it's a pretzel melt according to CB and I wonder what the Nuckster (or anyone else) recommends from WaWa? |
And, the price for each?????

We had salads from Culvers for lunch today in Michigan. The fish is good as is the cole slaw. I love their ice cream. We will try Wawa when we get to TV next month.
|
Culver's.... it's no contest....
|
I am always amazed to see that Mickie Dee's always leads the "fast food" restaurants in sales. I find it to be neither fast nor food. Given the choice, I'll go to Wawa and get a sandwich, which is head and shoulders above McDonalds in quality and taste, and seems cheaper (I haven't really compared actual prices). Must be all that advertising works, but not for me.

I believe their equal..I avoid both
|
Haven't eaten at McD's in years, since they changed their cooking practices. The "old" FF were the best around but then someone decided that the oil wasn't "healthy". I started getting "sick" if we ate at McD's....think it's the gluten intolerance (for me).
That said though...Culver's is leagues ahead. IF you're gluten intolerant, you can even get a G.F. bun. |

Wendys I hadn't been to one since 2011 and I went last year to the SS location. You're right, the chili is good, the only thing close is Steak N Shake Chili Supreme, but that place is a zoo. Why they don't spend a little money and expand that front into a waiting area. Always a line at Steak N Shake going in and getting out, confusion city. As far as Wendys, they have the best burger, I didn't realize it was juicy and not too big like a Whopper and not too small like most others. Taco Bell have great soft tacos for a quick bite, I can't wait for the new one at Trailwinds. Went to Fiesta Grande at Colony yesterday and had Lunch #6, soft meat taco and just rice, but for two people with drinks and a tip, it's $25. Culvers ate there six times or so when they opened. I was not impressed with the burgers, what's the big deal. What I did really enjoy was the shrimp dinner. Six shrimp with good sauce, really good cole slaw (which is nice) and good fries all for about $8. I eat lunch out everyday but Sunday, so can't always have a great sit down meal. I also like Outback, their 6 ounce lunch sirloin meal for $12.99 is nice. Want something different, do you like Catalina dressing, order the salad with Tangy Tomato Dressing. It's their own and they even sell it for $5 to take home. Be careful, it's hot. I also enjoy McAlisters Deli at Brownwood, my favorite is the French Dip. It's sliced roast beef (not rare) with melted cheese on a toasted bun. We've been going every Monday for 3 or 4 years since they opened. Last week we went and the line was out the door. October is a big change in TV. They also have the best potato salad around. |
I usually only go to McDonald's as a last resort. A few years ago four of us were driving home from MCO after a day of late flights and at 1:00 am McDonald's in Leesburg was the only place open. All of us were grateful.
And yesterday, I was squeezed for time in between a doc appointment and a meeting and needed something to get by before dinner. Picked up a 1/4 pounder w/cheese. Shared it with DH. It might as well have been a gourmet meal from the Chop House, it tasted so good! Going to try Culver's on BK's recommendation before the memory of that 1/4 pounder fades. |

Probably have not been to a McDonald's since before moving to the Villages in 2005. Culver's was good. I tried it just after they opened.
The nieces and nephews would crave McDonald's so we would get it when Tal, Tar and Zac were around. |
how about a comparison of Charmin vs Scott, will be more important to most villagers than Culvers vs McDonalds-

The debate is a false narrative. Culvers and McDonalds are not really competitors. McDonalds competitors are Burger King, Arbys, Wendys, Whataburger and maybe White Castle and Krystal. Culvers competitors are Square One, Five Guys etc. McDonalds and Culvers do not consider themselves as competitors specifically.

Wawa Pretzel melt==Pretzel dough shaped like a bagel. smoked turkey ,bacon, & ranch dressing--really good

Quarter pounder with cheese..and hot apple pie.YUM. (McDonald's) Single with cheese and tomato and lettuce and pickle and onion and mayonnaise. …. and a Frosty...(Wendy's) Butter burger and hot fudge sundae. (Culvers) Cheeseburger and sweet tea. (Arnold Palmer) THE BEST BURGER AND SWEET TEA I HAVE EVER HAD ANYWHERE. AND....I do eat a wide variety of other foods, both good for me and not good for me. We only live once. |
Most people drive Chevy's and Fords--doesn't make them the best--try something new , you might like it--didn't know from Wawa till one year ago, my bi-weekly pit stop was a Egg Mc Muffin and a cup of coffee-haven't stepped into a McDonalds since I discovered Wawa--same goes for Dunkin Doughnuts and Panera

Not what you may consider low budget, the Admiral & myself both drive $200K + worth of Benz's--, never had a budget, never had a mortgage, we know what is good, and we ignore fluff and BS--Wawa is not just a gas station-- its a great pit stop on your way to your destination--best bang for the bux IMHO
|
MacDonalds, WaWa, Burger King, etc., if you are concerned about your diet you would never step foot in those places. High salt levels, processed food, high fat content, etc., not very healthy food. Just sayin ...
