Cane Garden Restaurant
Has anyone noticed the quality of the food and service has gone down hill since the new owners took over? I used to look forward to Tuesday nights and the prime rib but no longer. The last few times the prime rib was lousy and the service matches. Over half the tables on the outdoor patio were empty but there was still a 30 minute wait. I was told they had a wasp problem. One of the waitresses told me it was a staffing problem. What are they going to do when the snowbirds arrive if they can't staff when it is slower. Also the prime rib i had was tough and chewey and not good at all. Will be looking for a new place to get my prime rib and spend Tuesday evenings.

We used to be frequent flyers @ the Cane, booze price isn't everything--their food quality has gone way down, bar staff although competent is no longer friendly when Dan & Sandy left--the bar lost a lot of character AND when Chef Louis left the kitchen lost TASTE & quality

We began visiting TV approximately 5 yrs ago. Bought a home in Buttonwood 2 yrs ago. Cane Garden became our go to dining choice while in town. It has been great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This week we went to dinner there on Sunday evening for the turkey special (Yes we know Thanksgiving is around the corner!). Place was jammed packed, including the outdoor seating. Waiting was just 20 minutes. But as usual great conversation and laughs in the waiting area. Our waitress was Jersey. She very competent and a pleasure to to have as our server. The turkey dinner itself didn't meet our expectation, but then again it wasn't mama's recipe. However, Jersey noticed we only ate about half of it and offered a to go box for which we declined. But she knows customer service and apologized for the meal not meeting our expectations and offered us deserts to go from the menu.
This experience won't turn us off to Cane Garden. We'll just be more selective where we want to eat certain foods. We don't know who owns Cane Garden but if it was me I would invite some customers to join a Cane Garden Focus Group of 2-3 couples to get some timely feedback. All it would cost is a little of the owners and chef's time and meal coupons. |
That's too bad. It was one of the most consistent restaurants we had.

I always liked the touch of "dump cake" at the end of the Sunday turkey dinner. Went there Sunday at 4 and it was jam packed. Drove down to Evans prairie and arguably got a better turkey dinner w more dressing and tasty green bean casserole - albeit w no dump cake - if I had room for dessert Scooples was just down the road

that turkey is just lunch meat , not real roosted turkey.

It is what can happen when someone who doesn't know what their doing tries to fix something that ain't broke!!!!

4 of us ate dinner this past Thursday & all of us were very pleased with our meals. Service was exceptional....I believe his name was either Joshua or Jeremy. Always satisfied.
|
Told Dan, he was making a big mistake, giving up his gig @ the Cane, trying to manage a fast joint was akin to herding cats
|
FYI chef Louis is now at the Arnold Palmer restaurant. We just saw him as we were leaving, he said he's been there 6 months now.

Chef Louis a mgr, not a chef

He's managing the FOH (front of the house), not the BOH (back to the house) (kitchen).

Met someone in the know, one of the reasons that the quality @ the Cane has gone done, is the Cane changed purveyors, they are now using a purveyor with a cheaper product line--there are 3 prime suppliers of prepackaged restaurant meals in TV, Sysco, Gordons & Cheney

Cane garden still great
I have eaten at the cane garden twice since the new ownership. I have not noticed a decline in food or service . I am a retired chef of 40 years.

Cane food
As a newly established owner I came to Cane Gardens without knowing how it was previously. They had the Sunday turkey special available and I thought it was great. The lobster bisque soup was amazing with chunks of lobster and it was in a bowl not a small cup that is 'normally' served. The turkey was moist and seemed to me to be from a regular turkey not a processed one and the large dessert of spice cake and ice cream was excellent. I returned several times and was happy with the meals I had..

The proof will be in a few years or less when its time to renew their lease--bad food and mgt , killed all the restaurants in the space that is now occupied by the Chop House, Bluefin, Havana, Legacy,Naldos and a few others I can't think of
|
I find the food still excellent as is the wait staff. One of the hostesses, however, does have a bit of an attitude. Still my favorite place for drinks and food overall.
|
We too found it is starting to go down a little. Frequent Sunday mornings for breakfast and it is less and less on the plate each time and price increased. Love our waitress but better food at other restaurants.
|
We had breakfast there a while back, maybe 4 weeks ago and food was not good. We told the server and she relayed our complaint to the manager. The manager sent a message back that their food was fine and didn’t even come to our table. We never went back for breakfast again. We did have a few lunches there after that bad experience and we had no issues. Just average lunches. Don't get the prime rib on Tuesdays it was not good.
|
Saturday we had 14 couples enjoying lunch after golf. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service was great!
|
Wow, a party of 28 descending on a restaurant for lunch, you have to believe the camaraderie was the major factor--in a party atmosphere everything is great
good for your enjoyment |
Unfortunately we moved from TV & Cane's was one of our favorite places to eat. I guess when we come back to visit,we won't be going there! I've learned a lot from Talk of the Villages since we still get their website. Thanks!
|
We used to enjoy going to the bar for drinks, food and conversation. The bartenders were excellent. Great service. Great attitudes.
Since they all left the atmosphere has changed for the worse. Not only are the bar staff not as good, the fellow with the dark beard is awful. It appears that the patrons are just getting in his way. As said above, there are better places |
When the Cane was good, it was two steps better than Evans Prairie, and its sister clubs , now it is two steps below them--we now consider going to Evans Prairie for a last minute meal when we don't feel like cooking --prior to the changes @ the Cane , we would put Evans Prairie on our back burner list
And, this a big AND--has any one in recent memory seen the chef, owner or mgr cruise among the patrons @ the Cane |
I wanted to order the thick steaks along with the gobs of butter potato mash, downing it wish "classic" sodas. Although I did enjoy the drippings, the quality of what was served wasn't the way it should be. I even took my grandkids Taylor and Hunter for a breakfast brunch. All they wanted was selections made from grassy plants! I told them that this place only serves "real" food, even if that real food is getting worse!
PS..when I told them this. they wanted to leave with their mother! I told them they will be missing out! Are these facts for real? |
Cane Garden
I had breakfast at Cane Garden last Sunday along with 5 friends. The quality of food was exceptional but the quality of the service certainly detracted from an otherwise positive experience.
|
Ok, I'm a bit pedantic, proven by using the word pedantic. Our last time at Cane a manager came by the table to chat, but not in a brat way. I sort of mentioned that whatever printer they used had made several spelling errors on the new menu involving making plurals [which are not plural's].
I was told the chef wrote up the new menu and replied that is fine; but, the printer should have caught the mistakes [not mistake's]. But I was then told that the chef also printed the menus. Happy apostrophe hunting. |
Superlatives seem to flow very easy--I really want to know what makes breakfast food exceptional--I would only any restaurant 5 stars if it was exceptional--

Somebody posted on Nextdoor that Cane Garden substantially changed their happy hour a couple weeks ago. Has anybody else noticed ?
|
The happy hour is NOW cast in stone--no leeway for the start @ 3:00 PM, previous owners & bar persons gave 10-15 minutes leeway--until the food quality improves , adios
|
The first time we went to Cane Garden after the change in ownership, we were disappointed, but not to the extent that we would never return. Since then, we have returned several times and were not disappointed. We have been there for both breakfast and dinner. We still find our breakfast favorites still on the menu and just as good. Similarly, what we usually prefer on the dinner menu is still good and the salads are great. The addition of soup or salad to entrees is a welcome no added cost addition. We will continue eating there.
