How do you like your coffee? How much do you drink? What will you not tolerate??

I like my strong Folgers with a generous amount of half and half and don't mind drinking it when it gets cold.

I don't like flavored sweeteners. No pumpkin spice for ME.

What is your preference for brand and how do you take it and how much do you drink?

Rapscallion St Croix 10-30-2019 09:38 AM

One coffee a day. I heat a cup of milk in the microwave and pour it into a French Press with Community Coffee dark roast. One sugar. Drink it while eating my bowl of morning oatmeal with a spoonful of crunchy peanut butter. Never vary my routine. Haven't had a savory breakfast in years. Occasional Irish Coffee after dining out.

Won't tolerate anything that I have to ask, "What the hell is it?"

karostay 10-30-2019 10:01 AM

2 cups in the Am usually Folders Dark roast I like seasonal Pumpkin Spice and or French Vanilla at times Plain 1% milk is my norm no sugar

Can't stand Starsu#*% coffee

bagboy 10-30-2019 10:24 AM

Usually drink Folgers medium roast. One sweet n low and a little cream. I nuke it to get it nice and hot. My wife likes Coffee Mate French Vanilla in her coffee. Yuck!!! We rinse the spoon after each time she stirs her coffee.

New Englander 10-30-2019 10:47 AM

Victor Allen's K-cups. Two/three per day. Cream, no sugar.

l2ridehd 10-30-2019 11:10 AM

2 cups a day, Hula Daddy Kona Fancy Select. Grind it myself. Have it shipped from Hawaii once a month as a coffee club member. Great coffee.

Chatbrat 10-30-2019 11:12 AM

16 oz of Folgers Columbian ( 2 K cups), 1 pack splenda and a splash of Fairlife 2%--

Two Bills 10-30-2019 11:15 AM

Folgers/any instant at home. Americano when out. No sugar.

JoMar 10-30-2019 11:16 AM

Dunkin Dark Roast K-Cup, Black, 2 cups in the morning and 1 decaf before bed. When we eat out one cup of black for breakfast and one cup of decaf after dinner.

Fredster 10-30-2019 11:41 AM

I start my day with a cup of Green Mountain Dark Magic, and I drink it black.
My other choice is Panera’s Dark Roast, and I’m having a cup right now!

No flavored foo foo coffee’s for me!

manaboutown 10-30-2019 12:49 PM

In the morning I enjoy two mugs of a Peet's coffee, usually Major Dickason's blend, from K-cups.

Villagevip 10-30-2019 01:00 PM

Starbuck coffee is a bitter swill, I toss it in the bushes every time.....But, but I do like a venti, Tea chi cha latte, no water, four pumps..This, for the calcium......

retiredguy123 10-30-2019 01:09 PM

I drink one cup per day, usually at a rec center because it's free. I'm not picky about coffee. I hate those breakfast places that charge almost 3 dollars, and won't sell you a single cup of coffee. It's actually cheaper at Starbucks.

Nucky 10-30-2019 01:28 PM

Yup, definitely coffee is my weakness. If you offer me a Wawa Sangwich, a Jersey Mikes Sub or a Home Made Coffee well I'd take the coffee every time.

My Favorites at home are varied. Pacific Bold from Costco, Thank You BK. Folger Black Silk, Donut Shop Dark Blend. Any Coffee will do really. Even Chock full of Nuts

KCups are very good and occasionally Death Wish KCups, Whoa is that stuff rough. We always have Pumpkin Spice on hand & Cafe Bustelo.

When we are out and about I'll go outta my way to get to Wawa for Coffee. Dunkin Donuts & Starbucks are finito to me. Fat-Free Half & Half, perfecto.

Chatbrat 10-30-2019 01:39 PM

When I'm out and about I have a 16 oz Wawa mug fill it 50/50 Columbian/Cuban--again 1 splenda & a small half/half

Taltarzac725 10-30-2019 01:42 PM

Never got into drinking coffee. Do have some Mountain Dews or some other diet caffeinated drinks in the morning though.

Attended BYU Law School in the late Summer of 1982 and coffee was not allowed there but diet or regular caffeinated COLD drinks were. They do train their lawyers at the Mormon Church to make fine distinctions. Can Mormons Drink Coca-Cola? : NPR

Most of my values fit in with those at BYU.

I left after ten days because I was not ready for law school then and BYU was a poor choice for me. Plus I had a recent convert to Mormonism from Puerto Rico as a on campus roommate who seemed to want to turn me into his victory for getting a conversion. He was a dance major as well so it did not seem he was deep into studying.

I grew up as a Lutheran but did attend various other denominations' services as I was interested in religions.

Velvet 10-30-2019 01:46 PM

I was wondering what is fat free half and half:

Google, Huffpost: It’s not often that one finds a perfect oxymoron, but it happened to me in a supermarket recently when I encountered a pint of “Fat-Free Half & Half.”

In the U.S., half-and-half is typically half milk and half cream and contains about 12 percent fat, so how can such a product be rendered fat-free? Answer: by replacing butterfat (a mostly saturated fat) with corn syrup and adding chemicals and thickeners to simulate fat’s texture and mouth-feel. The ingredients list: skim milk, corn syrup, cream (this is accompanied by a footnote reassuring the consumer that the cream adds “a trivial amount of fat” — I assume because the product contains a trivial amount of cream) and “less than 0.5 percent of the following: Carrageenan, Sodium Citrate, Dipotassium Phosphate, Mono and Diglycerides, Vitamin A Palmitate, Color Added (Ingredient not in regular half-and-half).”

I confess I like full fat milk.
When we were hiding in a small village from the Communists, the only place to get milk was from the farmer with the cow next door. There was a lovely dear cow, when I was 5 years old the farmer showed me how to milk her. Absolutely loved the warm, fresh milk.

billethkid 10-30-2019 02:03 PM

Usually two cups every AM...decaf...black...not steaming hot...medium to dark roast...

Never ever a flavored coffee....

And now the kicker.....what ever may be left from the previous day is my first drink in the new day!! (old Army habits never die).

justjim 10-30-2019 02:22 PM

We drink two cups of coffee most mornings with dry non-dairy creamer and a teaspoon of Splenda. Whatever is on sale, Folgers or Maxwell House half caffeinated coffee. We started drinking half-caff five years ago. Occasionally we will have a senior cup of decaf or regular coffee at McDonald’s. We think their coffee is good. As a general rule we do not drink coffee in the evening. I have relatives living in Louisiana and we do not drink their chicory coffee.

OpusX1 10-30-2019 03:26 PM

We like fresh coffee. I buy green beans and roast them. The coffee most people drink is stale. Fresh roast only lasts about 6 days before it starts to go stale.
I roast about every 5 days. I buy most of my beans from coffee bean direct. Kenya AA, Guatemala pea berry, Columbia Supremo, sometimes some exotic beans from Sumatra, India or Borneo, never drink blends.
Mostly roast to a light city roast, some beans we roast to medium city roast. Dark coffee and espresso are burned beans.
Our week end coffee is Kona. We buy it from a small organic farm. We drink it black with organic stevia.
We drink a 10 cup pot daily.
We have given up restaurant coffee. And don’t care for lukewarm coffee.

:ho: Very interesting. You are to coffee what the Brat is to Vodka. I also wanted to add I had no idea it was stale coffee that I like so much. Who knew? I also love the fact that you got a thumbs up (Thank you) from the only poster that stated he doesn't drink coffee. :coolsmiley:

Velvet 10-30-2019 06:32 PM

That’s cause I didn’t read his post yet.

Sort of like comparing prime rib to Mc Donald’s semi meat burger. They are not even in the same ball park.
But, we usually like what we are used to and what we have been exposed to. I noticed nobody was raving about my poppyseed lasagna, which tells me nobody is posting here from my native Central European country.

The coffee you buy at the store is vacuum packed and not stale before their date. Roasted expresso beans are carefully stored in oil.

It’s all good.

OpusX1 10-30-2019 07:30 PM

If you have never had fresh roasted coffee you would never know what it was like. Coffee that you buy in the grocery store is months from roasting and blended. If you like what your drinking that’s fine. The OP asked how I like my coffee and I like it fresh roasted and puro. Until you try it don’t knock it.

Velvet 10-30-2019 07:49 PM

Of course the store bought coffee is mostly blended, they are good beans blended with cheap ones to make coffee affordable. You haven’t mentioned the price of those fresh green coffee beans you talk about.

Thanks, I will check out the web site coffee bean direct! My business trips to Jamaica spoiled me with my daily fix of blue mountain coffee. Like you, and others in this post, a good cup of coffee is one of life's simple pleasures. I will also check out the Kona coffee. Thanks for sharing!

OpusX1 10-30-2019 08:24 PM

I don’t know what the price has to do with this thread but we pay around $10 per pound for coffee. Kona runs about $30 per pound.

Two Bills 10-31-2019 05:14 AM

My wife drinks an 'ersatz coffee,' allegedly made from barley, rye, and chicory.

(I also have a feeling they add the droppings from the local dog kennels, and extract of cat litter tray! JMHO.)

Viperguy 10-31-2019 05:48 AM

Amazon. One day delivery. Great prices and a great selection. Absolutely no Starbucks!

I do not buy coffee at the store unless I run out. When I do, I only buy Peets Dark Roast whole bean.

My regular coffee I buy from:

Best Coffee for Home

I buy whole bean dark roast only and grind my own beans. I make my coffee relatively strong and use a little skim milk and very little sugar. I usually have two cups. I do not like K-cups. I've never had a good cup of coffee made with a Keurig.

Bay Kid 10-31-2019 06:59 AM

3 spoonful's of strong instant coffee, honey and half & half. 1 cup a day will do for me.

Rapscallion St Croix 10-31-2019 07:02 AM

I remember a new guy signing in to my unit and trying to make a good first impression by cleaning our filthy 30 cup coffee pot. He never had a chance after that giant faux pas. His name was McDonald and he got the nickname "Ronald" after warning us to never call him "Ronald". I cannot believe I only drink one cup of coffee a day after drinking in the double digits for thiry-four years. Even drank C-Rats coffee out of canteen cups....now, there is a unique taste.

NotGolfer 10-31-2019 07:09 AM

Before moving here, I LOVED gas station cappachino but the spot was just a handful of blocks from our house so fast/easy access. Once we moved here my coffee drinking has evolved and I'm definitely not a coffee "snob". Most mornings I brew decaf and drink approx. 2/3 full of a travel mug with flavored cream. I don't care for a strong coffee nor do I like it extremely hot. For a real treat I like an iced coffee with sugar free vanilla flavoring.

collie1228 10-31-2019 07:18 AM

Four cups of New England breakfast blend or donut shop blend, which are smooth, medium roast coffees, made in a small Mr. Coffee drip coffee maker. Put it in a very large Mickey Mouse coffee mug that holds the entire four cups, along with a very healthy shot of half-and-half (never fat free). It takes me a long time to drink it all, and I usually have to nuke it a couple times.

I agree with Gil..............NO Starbucks. It's burnt & bitter.

If out & about................Dunkin & Seattle's Best.

I ran across Urban Coffee a couple years ago. Medium & Dark.f

I do enjoy fresh whole beans and grinding them up.

Since retirement..............have reduced consumption down to 1/2 pot per morning.

skip0358 10-31-2019 08:10 AM

2 Cups Black No sugar DeCaf every morning.

justjim 10-31-2019 09:16 AM

First coffee research said it was “bad” for you and now research tends to show it’s “good” for you. How about Dat? I think a caveat “in moderation” depending on health issues.

charmed59 10-31-2019 10:46 AM

I use Peet’s Major Dickenson whole beans ground by serving and brewed in my Jura Capresso machine. When it’s warm out I have one 8 ounce strong coffee spiked with one shot of espresso and cold skim milk. When it’s cold out I press the latte button and the milk is steamed.

When traveling in non European countries Starbucks Grande Non-fat Latte works for me, but if I’m in big cities in the US and can get artisan lattes I’m in heaven. And in Italy or France I’m all about the local espresso. I was a bit surprised there aren’t any local roaster coffee shops here in the Villages, but now, after reading this thread I see they probably wouldn’t have enough business.

valuemkt 10-31-2019 11:43 AM

1. Hot and black
2a. Full pot of brewed dark roast in morning - not maxwell or folgers
2b - keurig k cups after the brewed pot is finished - mostly decaf in afternoon / evening
3, people that say i drink too much coffee
