Price of golf carts vs. Price of cars

Noticed ad selling new Toyota $13,000, while friend bought new Yamaha for $14,000. I know that we are captive audience but profit margin on carts must be out of sight.

JimJohnson 11-02-2019 05:32 AM

It is. You can buy a matching cart out of this area and save thousands.

Tom C 11-02-2019 05:46 AM

I have also noticed that golf carts appear to retain their value more than cars, if you look at the % drop in price over the years. (in this market)

Toymeister 11-02-2019 06:10 AM

It is fairly simple to buy out of state, drive a few years and resell at the price you paid. I believe that is arbitrage in action.

I recommend it.

baustgen 11-02-2019 06:18 AM

Check out I4 power in Webster. I saved $2000.

I really am a fan of the free market. We still have a lot of power as buyers. AND....

We bought this cart used 12 years ago. It is a 2002, gas.

Still getting me where I am going. He has a new two seater and he is a skilled buyer, always has been.

A well maintained gas golf cart is a thing of the ages.

If a concern...................just shop around.

I have a mint condition, all new belts, new plug, new oil, new battery, re-conditioned life-style 2014 Yamaha EFI Cart with custom $800 alligator seat with armrests and low, low hours that I would like to sell for $5,700 because I paid $6,700 plus the $800 = $7,500 but can't because...……..

People want a specific color, specific enclosure, specific wheels, specific seat, unnecessary speedometer, ice chest, new, etc.. So they pay $14-$15 K plus sales tax everyday. My NEW Honda car cost me $13,550 and I can Drive it anywhere in the U.S. with Air Conditioning. No logic on carts here. My friend in Texas has a cart for his 5 acre property. It cost him $200.

Don't be shocked. Significant difference of costs with after market additions (which is a big number) to make the cars Villages' ready.

Again, shop around and even look out of state.

sail33or 11-02-2019 03:03 PM

The rest of the world buys a new Yamaha 2020 PTV (20 mph)(Gas EFI) for $6,000. A golf cart (10 miles an hour) is $4,500.

But VILLAGERS want 10" alloy wheels, El Tigre Seats, Custom Sunbrella enclosures and LED Lights (???????)

And Cart Sales people KNOW these retired folks in The Villages want to spend the money they have saved. So 200% markup on extras. Wish I knew this when I was 25. A car has 6-8 cylinders, 16 inch wheels, air conditioning, goes 120 mph, etc. and can buy one new for $14,000. Our Golf Carts have a one piston lawn mower engine.

When did you buy the new Honda? 1999?

curtis41 11-12-2019 10:58 AM

i paid $7631 out the door for my 4-seater gas Yamaha Drive 2 golf cart. Large Yamaha and EZ-Go warehouse. Hundreds of new carts to choose from. Even with shipping charges, these prices are well below your quote.

curtis41 11-12-2019 11:00 AM

Located just inside South Carolina (North Augusta, SC), not that far from the Masters Tournament location.

Bay Kid 11-15-2019 08:22 AM

My cart is my car in TVs.

sail33or 11-15-2019 10:06 AM

I moved to The Villages in 2016 and saw new golf carts were $14,000. I went to Ocala Honda and saw a NEW Honda Fit was $16,000. I offered $13,500 (tax & Title extra.) The Fit is small like a golf cart, has 4 cylinders, 4 seats, A/C, Stereo and I can drive it at 70 mph. Only thing I can't do with it is drive on the golf course. So I bought a new 2018 Yamaha QuietTech PTV(goes 20 mph) for $6,700 from I-4 Power and added Custom seats, windshield and sunbrella enclosure.

graciegirl 11-25-2019 09:57 AM

I just read where someone on this forum owns a Lotus Elise which is supposed to be expensive. Is it?

I've been looking for a resource to sell a used cart. I've tried some on-line classified but only get responses from scammers wanting to mail checks.

2012 Eagle Par Car with only 398hrs. Lightly used by an elderly neighbor in Bel Air. It's a must-see, clean, fast and lots of extras. Wish we had a Craigslist for the Villages. I've tried the classifieds but little response. I'd love any suggestions for a place to put up an advert.

Park it in the square with sign, we sold ours over night.

Read an article many months ago and it somewhat applies here. In the article it stated "a golf cart is a toy, like a boat, a jet ski, an RV" Its true, and those items also are not inexpensive to purchase. Even at $7500 that's an expensive golf cart for what your getting.

Paper1 12-02-2019 08:58 PM

What ever the market will bear. The Village community can bear a lot.

Villagevip 02-11-2020 01:16 PM

But, but you are treated like do-do when you bring your new Yamaha bought outside the bubble golf "car" to THE VILLAGES garages for service....

True. So call one of the Yamaha certified techs that will come to your house. They advertise on this site and in the Sun.
