Driveway Parking

Seems like I remember when I moved to The Villages there was a code that stipulated resident's vehicles should be parked in their garage.
My neighborhood is beginning to look like a parking lot. Neighbor has three cars and a golf car, two are always left in the driveway throughout the night. Other neighbor never puts the vehicle in the garage.
Just wish to clarify this?? Thank you

gatorbill1 11-09-2019 09:12 AM

no such code - there are some restrictions on parking on the road

I don't think there is any prohibition about parking in your driveway. In most courtyard villas, owners must park their vehicles in the driveway or in the garage, but are not allowed to park on the street or in the visitor spaces. However, visitors are allowed to park on the street or in the visitor spaces. In fact, in non-courtyard areas, I think you can park either in your driveway or on the street, unless the street is designated as a no parking area.

Topspinmo 11-09-2019 09:32 AM

Read restrictions for My district and more or less majority rules are same. Just can’t park truck over 3/4 ton in the drive way other than temporary, which explained under RV parking (72 Hours max for loading and unloading. For regular vehicles no restrictions parking in drive way, but, can’t park in the grass, rocks if have rock yard, or sidewalks to front door. Street parking has some restrictions like when diamond lane runs in front of you’re home. You can’t block the diamond lane for extended amount of time, see landscapers during work hours parked to do work. Not all districts standards are the same. Nobody monitoring parking. Somebody has to complain in writing if you expect any violations to be corrected, if the are actually violations? This IMO more of problem in CYV’s and patio villas with 1 1/2 garages and limited driveway space along with narrow streets that wasn’t designed for street parking.

Courtyard villa parking restrictions from the covenants:

"No Owner of a Homesite shall park, store, or keep any vehicle except wholly within his driveway, garage or other non-visitor parking spaces."

The Villages will enforce this rule if there is a complaint.

The rule has been enforced in courtyard villa areas, especially where owners have tried to use the visitor parking spaces to store a vehicle for weeks at a time.

Actually Courtyard Villa roads are considered " Private " with public access. As for parking a vehicle on the street, as long as an " Emergency " can get by parking a vehicle on the street is allowed.

Annoying yes...but nothing ya can do about it.

Refer to Post No. 7. According to the covenants, owners cannot park on the street, but visitors can.

Not logical or plausible as many people have 2 cars and a 1 or 1 1/2 car garage.

I had such a situation. I tried to have a car removed which was not blocking any traffic. Neither The Villages or the Sumter County Police Department were able to remove the car. They even went so far as to tell me if someone dies and their car is left on the street they do not have the right to move it unless it is blocking or causing some such traffic issue.

I moved here to the Village of Amelia in 2007. I could have sworn, too, that I read that somewhere because I have always remembered it. It looked so nice when we first moved in but then it gradually changed to what you are now saying. I prefer the clean look. Now it looks like it did up North, except for the trashcans & recycling bins.:sigh:

NJDiane 11-11-2019 03:47 AM

I specifically asked about that when we bought our home. The realtor said you are allowed to park in the driveway. Some people do that in our neighborhood and it doesn’t bother me at all!

Byte1 11-11-2019 04:11 AM

I have more important things to agitate me than someone parking in THEIR OWN driveway. My garage is full and I leave my car in the driveway at all times. I have enough space to park four cars if I wish. If a neighbor parking in their own driveway bothers one, then I suppose the color of one's golf cart and what they wear is at the top of their worry list also.

camaguey48 11-11-2019 04:24 AM

If they are on the driveway, I don’t think it’s an issue. Perhaps the carport is full of stuff and no room for vehicles. As long as they don’t park at the curb, it’s ok.

OlifOlif 11-11-2019 05:26 AM

What about laving a car on a driveway for months as Tony and Anna has done nearby?

jc.vererel@gmail.com 11-11-2019 06:50 AM

Why

soniak4@gmail.com 11-11-2019 07:08 AM

No such code, anywhere in The Villages. Anyone can use their driveways to park as many cars as they want to. Does not matter what you think it looks like.

bmit16 11-11-2019 07:29 AM

Parking on the street is annoying when people block the road or cart lane, but in a driveway does not bother me. However, people who burn wood in fire pits is really inconsiderate. I like to be able to put my windows up when it is cool without smelling smoke or having my home smell like smoke.

PugMom 11-11-2019 07:34 AM

my town car doesnt really fit in the garage. i get maybe 6-8 inches of space left over.

kayak 11-11-2019 07:48 AM

The worst I've seen is a snowbird's car on jack stands all summer long with a cover on the car.

dchockey123 11-11-2019 07:57 AM

I agree

Just trying to prevent flat spots on the tires. I left my car for 6 months without moving when I came back the tires had flat spots, luckily they rounded out after a few hundred miles of driving.

Driveway parking

I personally agree with the villager who posted about the rules of no cars in driveway!! That needs to be addressed!! We all have garages so PUt your cars in them !! Thx

Garylp3 11-11-2019 08:26 AM

I'm seeing the same, some neighbors trucks are too long to even fit in their garage. When the garage door is open I see why. People brought 40 years of stuff from their big house up north. Did they not realize Florida homes do not have basements or attics? Time to down size and minimize the clutter. It is a eyesore to see so many cars in driveways.

Garylp3 11-11-2019 08:28 AM

Really? i love the smell of firewood smoke. (Cigs and cigars no) Firewood yes

Andyb 11-11-2019 08:44 AM

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

kayak 11-11-2019 08:44 AM

Jack stands and/or car covers are an eyesore. Use the garage!

BobnBev 11-11-2019 08:57 AM

Maybe Community Watch could double as the Garage/Driveway Police, and tow your car out of your driveway, to an impound area, where you have to pay a big fine to get your car back.......see where this is going?:ohdear::ohdear::ohdear:

That’s exactly right! Just as long as it isn’t sitting on jacks & doesn’t run.

aallbrand 11-11-2019 09:17 AM

Be happy they are not on the street. I would never park a car in a house that I sleep in . As long as the cars are not an eye sore what's the difference . Just my opinion .

gatorbill1 11-11-2019 09:19 AM

most areas do not have visitor parking, so where is a visitor supposed to park if not in your driveway. Get real and look for real problems that are out there

Chatbrat 11-11-2019 09:24 AM

I've got a neighbor who keeps his collector cars inside their garage--his & his wife's daily drivers are in the driveway--No problem--they're not beaters

and if you have a house without an extended garage a lot of newer cars are too long

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 11-11-2019 09:28 AM

We have two cars and a golf cart and a two car garage. My wife's car sits in the driveway. What is the problem and why does this NEED to be addressed.

Also, many people have house guest who drive in and keep their cars in the driveway.

Some people seem to find problems every where they look. Calm down and enjoy the great life we have here.

I must of missed that restriction? where does it say you can't have cars in the driveway?

equaintance 11-11-2019 09:46 AM

Driveway parking

Too many people let their cars hand out of the driveway onto the street which is dangerous.

Chatbrat 11-11-2019 09:49 AM

No such restriction- I gave my old benz to my wife's niece--it was parked in the street for a week while she was visiting us--no problems, no complaints

vintageogauge 11-11-2019 09:53 AM

It's okay as long as you park under the eaves.
