Irrigation Repair

Can someone recommend an irrigation repair service? Thanks!

retiredguy123 12-03-2019 09:27 PM

Water Wizard. Not cheap, but they will show up and get the job done.

Jim Baumgarter is wonderful.

New Englander 12-04-2019 10:17 AM

I have used Chip Parrish of "Action Irrigation". He is excellent in sprinkler repair and reasonable prices. 352-516-2281

bilcon 12-04-2019 10:35 AM

You are right, Jim is great, but lately you can never get him. I used him for 10 years, but had to find someone else.

I've used Joe Tucker twice, once for head adjustments, and the last time to check a muddy condition. We found water bubbling up out of the ground on one zone, which he dug up and repaired immediately. Fair price, didn't beak the bank. I would definitely use him again.

Another vote for Chip Parrish

Duane Goodwin, Goodwin Sprinkler Repairs. 352-787-9001. Had him do repairs/adjustments at two houses. Pleased with the work. (I just called the office to pay for the second job and their recording says he can't schedule any new projects until 12/23. I guess the sprinkler biz is like the medical biz (good luck getting someone in a timely manner!)

Chip has been doing our sprinklers for 12 years. Great guy & now his son is helping - he's great too. Such nice people. At another home outside The Villages, we use Jerry Martin Irrigation. He lives in The Villages and does a great job. 237-5731

Based on recommendations in this thread we went with Joe Tucker (352) 430-5615 to repair our irrigation. He was fast, personable, and the charge was very reasonable. I am very happy with the results and would use him again.

bilcon 01-01-2020 12:02 PM

Joe Tucker was recommended to me by Jim Baumgartner when he was too busy. Both great. I have used Jim for 9 years and Joe for 2 years. Can't miss with either.

OP, I don't know what kind of work you needed, but you will save yourself a lot of money and hassles by learning the basics of setting the irrigation system controls, adjusting the sprinkler heads, and replacing the simple screw on heads when they break. A professional will come out and do this for a charge, but no one can tell you how long it will be before another simple adjustment is needed.

F.L.I. Irrigation 352-504-7827 Their tech Brandon is outstanding. He knows our systems extremely well. He arrived on time. Had the parts I needed. He taught me how my system works and set it so that it runs flawlessly.

Yesterday when I got my monthly amenity bill I noticed that I used -0- irrigation last month, which caused me to troubleshoot my sprinklers. The controller was programmed correctly but I never remembered to check it at 6 am when it’s scheduled to run. After researching the problem I reset the controller to factory default and reprogrammed it. In desperation I texted Joe Tucker and included a photo of a flashing icon. He was kind enough to call back and made a suggestion to “bypass” the rain sensor which he said was garbage. That appears to have solved the problem. 2 lessons: read your bills carefully and some repair people are honest. He could have easily hit me for $50 to come out and do the same thing.

The rain sensor will turn off your irrigation system when it has rained recently. There is a cork type part attached to your gutter that absorbs water and temporarily turns off the system. If you want to replace the cork part, you can buy a replacement at Central Pump and Supply, 2404 West Main St, Leesburg, 352-315-1075. Very easy to replace. I wouldn't call it garbage. Mine has been working fine for 4 years.

Thank you for this info. Our home is less than 5 years old, and the rain sensor failed. In another home, we replaced the rain sensors several times. So I’m well aware of its function and value. However even a perfectly functioning rain sensor has its limitations by design, and in our case it’s failure could have been catastrophic if it happened while we were absent for several months.

With all due respect, if an irrigation professional makes a candid comment that the rain sensors in his opinion are garbage, why would I challenge him? Granted irrigation controllers and solenoids may also fail but the rain sensors are far more likely to fail in my experience.
