I have Direct Satellite TV, last night I was watching The Zoo when a very different ad caught my attention. It was a hip hop artist, spray painting a wall and talking about watching real news, not fake news. The whole ad was over and done with so quickly it was difficult to understand what it was selling, other than I noticed the words Russia TV up in one corner. Being a retired researcher from the Defense Industry, my interest was piqued and I did a menu search. Yes, we really do have a Russian News TV program promoted by the official Russian State on our TVs. Anyone else notice this?

RT + FACEBOOK + YOUTUBE = birthplace of all the conspiracy theories, NONE of which has ever come to be proven but poisons minds.

When I actually saw Russian TV on my TV I was more than p****d. I used to watch Al Jazeera for international information and that was taken off, and now I have Russia in my home! I cannot believe this is being allowed, what's next Saudi Arabia giving me their slant on the news?

This is so very important yet not allowed on this forum for the reason that you object to RT. BUT, if you read enough, you can see the ongoing con job. Weapons we sell or give to Saudi somehow end up in the hands of al Qaeda-linked fighters, and that includes technology.

But your thread was about RT, and they publicly say how they will manipulate our thinking and are succeeding. Most americans do not get "p****d" if it serves their purpose and, IN MY OPINION, are doing such a disservice to our country. RT has learned that we don't care if you attack us in this way, and will fight among ourselves as we are doing as they wish. IMAGINE if the attack on our very voting process was done with guns.....obviously this is without gunfire, but accomplishes the same thing but no uproar in our country.

RT, in direction of the home state has got our country supporting everything that Russia wishes.....and it is being done with no risk it seems

I think I understand your point, but to my knowledge, NEVER did our country directly, nor even have the capabilities to spread conspiracy theories to divide any other country.

I do not think, at least IMHO, VOA justifies what has been done to this country. Without being specific, I know of NOT ONE of the various conspiracy theories that has EVER been proven, although they have all been investigated,

Certainly VOA had a similar objective but what is being sown by them in our country is affixed in the minds of many, and now all polls show an affinity to Russia versus any other Ally, and to Russian goals. Add, as noted by the OP, the Saudis (not yet even condemned for what happened to 3 of our navy guys) continuing war on freedoms.

Well, as has been said, it is what it is, however, FACTS and history will show my attitude to be the correct one. Hoping we are not permanently losing allies who have stuck with us as a result of a well planned attack on democracy.

Maybe I am just old and recall the days when Russian aggression and behavior was a bad thing......today, and most recently they have been suspended from all international sporting events for cheating....they aggression and killing continues unabated toward various countries, so nothing there has changed.....but obviously it has in my country,

Denigrating decades old close allies and great American institutions, while embracing and showing adulation for murdering despots/dictators/kings/authoritarians, is something I would have once bet big money that I would never see...in this great country.

Yes...All of the world watches fake news CNN....They laugh and see how divided we are. So now Russia sees how powerful and controlling it can be to spread lies and propaganda around the world and now they are infiltrating the world with their station, RT.

CNN is recognized all over the world as a reputable news forum; you cannot travel to anywhere in this world without seeing CNN in your hotel room, cruise ship, on your flights, in the airports. CNN may not be what you want to HEAR, but I hardly think they would have survived all these years if they were pushing fake news. My personal choice for world news would be the BBC, CNN may not be on a par with the BBC, but they are not far behind!

I watch all the different major networks I think CNN seems pretty reliable and the just celebrated their 40th anniversary. They must be doing a good job to stay on reporting the news.

We are so fortunate to live here in The Villages where most people have lived long enough to see through most scams and can filter out what is good and bad. People choose to live here because of our reputation of being wise and traditional and patient and smart.

We have a majority of like thinking folks here and they see through the words and find the meaning and know what to believe and what to discard.

It has been erroneously called "Fake News" by someone we all know who is not as articulate as others.

What it is, is OPINION instead of factual reporting that irritates most thinking people these days. And what is chosen to present in the news and what is left out.

The wonderful thing is that having lived a long time, most older people can sift through the missing or hyped information, and enjoy living in this country which is in an economic good place that gives jobs to those who seek them and puts us all in a better place. Words are words, but a paycheck puts food on the table of the hungry.

Articulate talk is often a way to get some folks to drop their drawers as we all know. Who knew such lack of something like smooth phrases could serve us well?

Your use of the word ARTICULATE caught my attention.

I did a bit of research on what the word you used a number of times actually means.

Interesting that no definitions mention lying, simply an inability to speak fluently.

So, how do you explain away lying ?

Worth a conversation because fake news seems to be, to some, not related in any way to articulation, but actually what is a lie and what is not. When in the service or working, everyone avoided liars, but learned to understand those who articulated poorly. It was easy to tell the difference.

and while you are explaining away lying, how about trying to explain the use of the word HATRED in the first para of your rebuttal. Where is the HATRED in anything that any one of us posters has used?

Does nobody object to RT intruding OPENLY into our systems that used to be protected and honored...

Each time this theme is brought up, as if no foreign country who openly opposed our democratic system, openly speaks to how they intend to divide us and even tells us how they will do it.

YET, somehow we attack our own, as intended of course, but no concern shown about any of that.

Until this thread, NEVER heard of RT Network. And I have never seen a glimpse of it on anything onTV I have watched. Never on Facebook.

I have watched RT because and old reporter from Miami was the reporter. I didn't agree with some of it but it was not as annoying as FOX.

Annoying is a general term. They have become (did not used to be) the seat of conspiracies.


What is amazing, the watchers do not seem to care that the conspiracies fostered on there are not true, have NEVER EVER be proven to be true, and have caused so much harm (see suits against their late night star, and the shooting at the pizza place supposedly a den of oedophiles) both of these reported as factual and totally made up but repeated by our government.

Again, this thread was about RT, not any other netwaork.

I believe you mentioned you are on Facebook.....well, they certainly were a major topic during our country's investigation.....sure were the subject of much questioning during Facebooks visit to the capital, and have been in most news reports about the manipulation of news on Facebook.

Most people use Facebook without any kind of interaction with the people or the policies of who run it. They simply use Facebook as a way to see what their friends and family members are doing and to laugh at their cleverness and some like to argue politics on it as well. The kid who owns Facebook and the decisions he makes doesn't enter into our Facebook experience. During the period you mention, all of us could and many did just erased strange political news posts and reported them. We are a lot smarter than you think.

Just on this forum, we have no interaction with the webmaster or the website maker or sense his/her presence or views.

Most people I know TRY to read the news without opinion and fewer watch the opinion talkers on any of the major networks.

I am not sure that the Nielsen ratings are something you understand but here is how the public views the three major networks according to Nielsen.

Not sure about RT because. Last visit when the discussion centered on OUR secrets, no press except Russian press. Not sure today except no American press allowed.

1. linking to a bing search result on a phrase is the antithesis of helpful. In the one on Nielsen ratings, there were 66,100,000 results. If you have actual information to share, you could link to the actual website. Otherwise, it's pointless.

2. His name is Mark Zuckerberg, and he's 35 years old. He's not "the kid who owns Facebook."

3. The decisions he makes absolutely positively DOES have a direct effect on you, if you use Facebook. Ignoring facts does not make them cease to be facts.

4. To Bucco et al; I admit to not know anything about RT, partly because I don't typically watch ANY TV at all, second because I'm a gamer and in my head, RT = "round-time," or the delay imposed on a character after he engages in combat or movement. So when I see "RT" my brain automatically searches to see which game you're talking about, not which TV station you're watching :)

4a. I did know that the Russians used Facebook to interfere with the election and inject bots and paid "bad actors" to promote division, I just didn't recall that it was Russia TV that was behind it.

Facebook, twitter and all social media sites are nectar to the bad guys.
Many users give so much information, photos, holiday schedules etc. they are an Aladdins Cave of information.
Users publish public profiles, how hard for the savvy to fiind out address etc.
...and they wonder why they are robbed and scammed.
Security is hard enough online, without giving the nasties a head start!!
