Pizza ?

Timing on Sat made it impossible for us get to a favorite restaurant, with the ability to sit @ the bar.

We settled for a third choice restaurant--nothing on their menu hit our fancy

Decided to play it safe-ordered an antipasto, it was fine, then still trying to play it safe we ordered a pizza real thin

well the crust was like cardboard & IMHO, the crust reminded us of the crust on a "chicken pot pie"

Not naming the restaurant, because lots of Villagers love it

Hs anyone every had pizza dough that tasted like "chicken pot pie crust"

retiredguy123 12-16-2019 01:01 PM

No name? Bummer.

Chatbrat 12-16-2019 02:08 PM

With a few more comments , may "name " the place

dewilson58 12-16-2019 02:22 PM

Oh goodie.

OrangeBlossomBaby 12-16-2019 04:09 PM

Totally agree. I must have had their pizza several times.
Being from S. FL it was difficult to get a bad pizza.

REDCART 12-16-2019 06:55 PM

So what was the point of the op? Without naming the pizza restaurant, how does anyone respond? We enjoy Flippers and Piesanos but we’ll concede that pizza like Chinese food is very subjective. The crust in both Flippers and Piesano’s does not come even close to chicken pot pie, at least the chicken pot pies I remember. So of course we’re curious about where the op had a disappointing pizza experience?

Now, on the subject of Chinese food, had Szechuan pork take out Saturday from the Chinese take out in Colony. Compared with Koyame, which is a trip for us, it was absolutely tasteless. Now I know people will defend this place that has been there for ten plus years.

We went to a very popular restaurant near us in a strip mall last night, our first choice was Belleview Pizza and they were closed so drove back near our home and decided on a place close by. The crust was thinner than anything I've ever seen! I think a credit card would be thicker... A couple walked in after us and they got their pizza before us. We thought that was odd but didn't say anything. About 10 minutes later, she delivers are pizza and with a "doe in the highlight look" asked if it looked okay. After waiting so long, we said it looked fine. First bite, barely room temp!! Since we didn't want to wait for another pizza, we ate most of it and left. We looked at each other and said 'no more... we went about a year ago and didn't return but never again'. It was beyond horrible, there were maybe 3 tables with customers and I can see why! Not sure if you were the couple that got your pizza before us but it sounds like the same experience! We thought it tasted like a bad drive-in movie pizza from years ago!!!

Fredman 12-16-2019 09:23 PM

No name, no creditability

Chatbrat 12-17-2019 01:43 AM

It was Mezza Luna--I read several reviews, thought they may have improved--their garlic bread resembled a hot dog roll with oil dripped on in and some garlic from a jar and they placed in a toaster--one bite was too much

Worst pizza ever !!!

Bridget Staunton 12-17-2019 06:57 AM

I like Koyanne Chinese restaurant

Yes thin crust Domino's last week in Nashville. Cardboard...

l2ridehd 12-17-2019 07:22 AM

Sammy's on 301 has "decent" pizza. Not NY or Boston pizza but at least it is the best around here. I need to also try Piesano's as most folks seem to like their's.

jswirs 12-17-2019 07:32 AM

Try Francesco's on 441, just north of a church there. I had the stone fired pizza, very good!

bmit16 12-17-2019 07:48 AM

Digiorno's, best pizza in The Villages. Available at all Publix locations

ts12755 12-17-2019 08:06 AM

Flippers is my favorite in the area.

Tdsch5012@yahoo.com 12-17-2019 09:06 AM

Being originally from NJ I’ve Been on a quest to find a good “pie”. Little Joeys so far has been yummy. Had Sammys last week, awful pizza, tasted like frozen. Will try Koyame thanks for the tip!

I love pot pies, and am willing to try a pizza pot pie.

Chatbrat 12-17-2019 09:24 AM

Chicago deep dish--its a casserole

Chatbrat 12-17-2019 09:25 AM

Koyome is Asian

gatorbill1 12-17-2019 09:37 AM

Mallory Hill will serve thick or thin crust pizza cooked in brick oven, but don't tell anyone else, getting too crowded.

Chatbrat 12-17-2019 10:07 AM

So right

NavyVet 12-17-2019 01:55 PM

So many pizza places around, all just a little it different from each other. If anything, some are a little too salty or garlic-y for me. I've had good luck at most of them and like all styles, including Sicilian (Gio's, Roberto's.) My usual go-to's are Piesanos, Stavros, Francesco's, Little Joeys, NYPD, Flippers, Sammy's. Maybe I'm not that picky but I even like Hungry Howie's, Little Caesars, Papa John. LOL
The only place I stopped going to years ago was Taki's. Their crust was literally tasteless.
Happy hunting!

claytocl 12-17-2019 03:04 PM

Piesanos didn't rock my world. I still prefer Robertos in Pinellas Plaza.

OrangeBlossomBaby 12-17-2019 03:58 PM

My suggestion to the OP: if you're looking for pizza that you can even TRY to compare with pizza from "up north"....

I’m with you on the locations. But...

Red Baron original crust. :)

Chatbrat 12-17-2019 04:58 PM

It was named Mezza Luna

Debboguch50 12-17-2019 05:14 PM

Piesanos in ocala and the villages is the worst pizza we have had! So far the only one we like is Blue hiway pizza in ocala.

I really liked those pizzas!

golfing eagles 12-17-2019 05:34 PM

Wake up guys! This is Florida, there isn't any good pizza. There really isn't any good pizza outside of NY, unless you like deep dish. Roberto's is at least edible, as is Gio's deli. Francesco's isn't too bad either

I think you meant "outside the greater NY area." Because New Jersey, New Haven, and Boston all are known for their Neapolitan pizzas.

I was on the edge of my seat.

BostonRich 12-17-2019 11:24 PM

Yeah it's the New York/New England water I believe. Best water makes the best dough.

kathryn ann 12-17-2019 11:46 PM

My husband and I ate there last year, tasteless, small portion and way over priced. Never will we go back, you wonder how some places stay in business, and why we go back and try again, you would think we would learn that ourfirst impression is usually correct.
