Do you think anyone will complain about the price? :icon_wink:

Bogie Shooter 12-23-2019 05:31 PM

Don't forget to rake the traps, fix divots on the greens and sand the divots on the fairways...…………...

rustyp 12-23-2019 05:53 PM

And the complaining begins before the fact. Last year it was posted the courses were destroyed. I live directly on and played the same course for years on Christmas. No change observed here free or charges. Everyone was and has been respectful and played at the same pace as normal - 18 holes less than 4.5 hours.

Bogie Shooter 12-23-2019 06:15 PM

Not complaining just reminding..

:ohdear: I don't see a complaint...... where is it? You might be the site expert on complaining. So I ask where is it? :blahblahblah::blahblahblah::blahblahblah:

I asked a question and Bogie posted a request......

John_W 12-23-2019 06:23 PM

The first time I played Christmas golf was in 2011 and Bonifay had just opened two months earlier, except for Pensacola was still closed. I got there at 7:15 and I was about #35 in line, the first two guys said they got there about 4:30am. We were all lined up down the sidewalk up to the Destin starter shack and then they said, anybody want to play just nine holes, turn around and go to the Ft. Walton starter shack. Now, I'm #23 in line for 18 holes. Then they said, anybody here a single, and I said, that's me. Now, I'm next on the tee. What I saw when we came in about noon, there wasn't one person waiting to tee off. So if you don't want to wait, go later. Also on the way home I past Turtle Mound and Sand Hill Executives and nobody was waiting, later is better.

I don't see a complaint either. Oh dear the sky is not falling but last year the posts after the free Christmas golf was like a war zone occurred. I am reminding everyone before we go that route again - not in my experience and I'll bet I've played approximately 15 years of rounds of Christmas golf here in TV. My opinion is it is a wonderful jester for TV to provide free golf on Christmas. I have not seen it abused more than the normal abusers who don't rake sand traps or replace divots on a normal day. Spread the word. Folks championship golf is FREE on Christmas and you can bring up to three guests without even a guest pass as long as you have your residence card.

:ho: Sorry..... but you said "And the complaining begins before the fact." My bad! Feliz Navidad

Merry Christmas, my only complaint is that we can't be there to enjoy it : ( Oh well, we will be playing at the Villages on New Years day : )

I don't know what course you live on, but I also live right on a championship course and have observed the Christmas carnage for 5 years now. There is a fairway trap 20 yards from my lanai, and the rakes were viewed as ornamental. 95% of divots were not filled, and I'm 200 yards from the green but it didn't look like any pitch marks were repaired. Playing the course 2 days later confirmed this. CW is right, it's a wonderful jester, but the gesture was ill conceived.

It's been my observation that the word "free," often results in an involuntary, whole-body, physiological response...in a lot of people.

At a garage sale once, I had a plastic milk crate that was filled with barely used containers of brake fluid/synthetic oil/tranny fluid/Etc. (well over $100 worth)...to save a trip to the hazmat recycling station.

I put a $5 tag on it...and it set all day.

The minute I wrote "free"...a guy quickly grabs it.

His question was..."does the plastic crate come with it?" :1rotfl:

That same mentality seems to apply to the free golf on Christmas.

I too, have seen courses the day after Christmas whereby the standard courtesies of taking care of the course...were worse than usual. :ohdear:

The "family" tries to do something nice and still there will be some people that complain, or will keep their "better" ideas to themselves.

Remember this post by eyc234 a few weeks back when we were talking about course conditions ?

Have you ever thought it is the player and not the course. Go out and practice or accept the fact as Michael Phelps was told by Hank Haney " face it, you are not that good". Played Mallory today and it was absolutely horrible!!!! There was earth on the course that was uneven, the sun was too beautiful, the ball was round and it rolled too much, the hole on the green was round and not big enough and it had a flag in it. I hit into a sand trap and the sand was way too white. I got so far away from the clubhouse bar that I had to keep hitting that stupid round ball just to get back to the bar and pay those ridiculously cheap prices for beer. Oh yeah and towards the end of this miserable day the beautiful missus and I had 4 guys two holes behind us that was really irritating. Then to top it all off I had to drive 8 minutes in my golf cart back to my house. If this kind of life keeps up I think I will just have to move up north to a place that has 6 feet of snow where all I have to do is dream about what golf is about in January.

1 - that was about course conditions during regular season not the day after free golf
2 - I was chastised for saying I think the fairways are too short during winter for the average senior. I was "politely" told to buck up and play the ball under whatever the course conditions like real golfers do.

Well it's time to be a real golfer on boxing day Ah ?

Looking at The Daily Sun over the past days, there has been no mention about the "free golf" as they used to promote in past years. Usually they make a big deal about this in the sports section. Today, all they print is that the Championship Courses are closed on December 25. Has something changed? Can anybody confirm that they will be free tomorrow as they have been in the past? Or will there be grinch ambassadors chasing people off the courses?:ohdear:

Not to worry I called and indeed there is free golf tomorrow. I can not verify if it is under 2016 rules and regs. The other news is a blog not an official TV announcement.

So how was the free Championship golf today? We so wish we could have been there. Oh well, we will be there playing before New Years. How long was the wait at various times (early AM, Mid Morning, Noon, early PM), that would be good information to know for future years. Merry Christmas : )

DeanFL 12-25-2019 05:14 PM

Went to Bonifay at 2pm (us and another couple). Pulled up to the Destin Starter - no line/no carts. Starter said we're next... 4some was just teeing off. Driving on Pinellas to Bonifay we saw no carts waiting for Pennsacola. Starter said it was very busy in the morning, but slowed down after 1pm. We had a great time, weather was really nice, and I didn't suck too bad. The price was right. Nice Christmas present. Thanks Morse Family!
