Stylish Walking Shoe
Will be taking an overseas trip with lots of walking. Other than athletic shoes, what is a stylish, comfortable walking shoe?
|
Buy dark color. Nothing white, designates a tourist besides white shoes went out in the 80's.
|
Check out Mephisto and Naot. When Googling Mephisto, be sure to google "mephisto shoes", not just Mephisto.
|
Don't know if these are stylish but they are very comfortable. I have two pair, one greyish and one brown and take them on cruises. They are great for walking and as far as I'm concerned, dressy enough for dinner.. lol

Sketcher slip on shoes are the best.

Walking shoes
I have a pair on New Balance Hiking Sneakers & they have plenty of support. They are Grey with a bit of blue trim. Good strong sole for the cobblestone streets. :)

Oofos

Ecco waterproof best ever

If you like sandals, try Keen. I have walked miles in them. Great support and nice looking styles as well. I bought them on line and they are true to size.
|
The Walking Company has stores in the Tampa area.
The store team will have you stand on a foot analyzer that measures your pressure points to determine the best type of support for your feet. They offer a wide variety of styles as well as orthotic inserts and high quality socks. I have used them for years as I used to attend a number of trade shows that required a lot of walking and standing on concrete floors. The pricing is well below that of Mephisto and in line with Ecco.

On a second note, Are you going to Europe via a cruise? We are going on a cruise the end of April and getting off in Barcelona, then leasing a car and taking a driving tour around several countries, ending in England where we will return home sometime in late June or early July. |
I love glitter sneakers. They are very lightweight, only weigh an ounce or two.
You can get them on Amazon for $25. Come in all colors. Everything I wear them, women and even men say how much they love them. Very pretty and most importantly comfort. Have a wonderful trip. |
Check amazon for “fit flops”.

depends on where over seas you are going. crocs work anywhere

$100+, but THEY NEVER EVER WEAR OUT! I have a pair of their early Ballerina style that I purchased on line from Zappos about five years ago, they have the replaceable inner sole, and they look awful, but they will not wear out. If you see someone wearing awful shoes that will be me! I also love Born. |
Good support for walking
We've done lots of walking in France, Spain, and Korea as well as here in the US. My "go to" favorites are my Birkenstock sandals and my Keen oxfords. Wouldn't travel without them!
|
Mephisto Shoes or Ecco Shoes. I swear by both of them. Bought my first pair of walking boots for a trip to Thailand 15 years ago and I still have them. Comfortable. Might be a bit more expensive but worth it.
|
Thank you everyone for your suggestions! This gives me a starting point.
We are going to Europe with lots of walking. |
My husband and I bought allbirds for a big trip last year. Wouldn’t travel again without them. They can only be ordered on line.
|
A lot of walking?
Comfort over style every time. |
For sandals, I love Ecco "Yucatan." You can see several colors on Zappos.com. After so many years on the planet have never found a really comfortable walking shoe. I would love to love SAS but they start cramping my feet after a couple hours. My husband can wear his SAS all day long.
|
anything sketchers related is typically fitted with memory foam, i have bad heel spurs, the slip on's are great. @ nightime, i have a pair of (really,) orthopedic sandals, with wedge heals. they only look uncomfortable, but i can walk on them all nite. i found them on amazon, & they include heel lifts for those that have a leg shorter than the other
|
Mephisto shoes run tight so try on and be sure they are comfortable right away, Vionic shoes from Bealls are great as are SAS. Have fun.

Having had years of sore feet, ankles, knees and hips, which shoes are “best” is definitely a matter of individual needs and preferences. For instance, your feet could be flat with almost no arches or they could have very high arches. Big difference! Also how you walk—mechanically—(your gait) affects which shoe is best for you.
I have had great success with getting good walking shoes at a good specialty shoe store targeted to RUNNERS. Many of those stores have well-trained sales help to assist you with choosing for fit, function and style. My local running store has a treadmill and cameras to identify whether you “pronate” or not. Turns out, I do. Getting shoes structured for that has made a huge difference in my daily pain levels! Besides that, as the other poster suggested, I love Birkenstocks too. I would be sure to buy them and wear them for short spurts at home to mold them to your feet before you wear them for a long day of sight-seeing. The breaking-in process can cause some discomfort & nothing can ruin a nice day faster than painful joints or feet. Enjoy your trip! It sounds dreamy... |

“All About Feet” is a store just outside of TV. The official address is Oxford. It is near Bargains and Treasures and Urban Hair Studio.
The owner knows how to fit shoes and I think he also does repairs. They carry Naot — which a widely traveled friend of mine swears by. “All About Feet” is where I learned about Aetrex and bought them there a couple of years ago. I have Aetrex sandals, walking shoes, and a nice looking short casual — not quite a boot — that looks good with jeans. I don’t know if they carry Walking Cradles and SoftWalk, but I have bought those two brands from Zappos. They both do a flat with actual arch support and a gently rounded toe. I have one silver and one gold that I can wear to dress up an outfit for a dinner or something like that. If I were you, I would go to “All About Feet” (with a Google, you will find their website.) Maybe ask for Anthony if he is still there. He will help you find what works for you, and can add orthotics, too, if needed. This type of shoe will not be the least expensive you have ever bought, but they are worth the price. You know that old saying, “When your feet hurt, you hurt all over.” |
Europeans tend to be less informal in the cities than North Americans. Country folk have their own dress code. I have not seen running shoes on anyone other than tourists in the cities. Also it can be colder, Paris temperatures in August can be similar to TV in winter. But then Rome is warmer. I wore sandals to walk a million miles in Paris, metro up the stairs, down the stairs, all the art galleries. A black pair of Ecco, or Keds would fit in.
There are many shoe stores in the cities, if for example, you suddenly decide to go to the opera. Not sure where you are going? If you plan to hike the castles in Scotland I’d wear hiking shoes. |

UOTE=elreib;1713393]I have painful feet and I do so much better when I wear SAS shoes. They are so very comfortable and they last forever. I have about 8 pair and they are my favorite shoe for comfort. SAS (San Antonio Shoe co.) have a shop across from the Paddock Mall in Ocala. It is a small shop but loaded with plenty of shoes in sizes that are not found in most shoe stores. I wear a size 10.5 narrow and they always have them on hand or can get the color I want and ship to my house within a week.
On a second note, Are you going to Europe via a cruise? We are going on a cruise the end of April and getting off in Barcelona, then leasing a car and taking a driving tour around several countries, ending in England where we will return home sometime in late June or early July.[/QUOTE] Another vote for SAS shoes. They have been offering more stylish shoes lately, and they are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. They have a store in Brownwood not far from Too Jays. I bought a really pretty pair of black patent leather shoes with cross strap and wore them brand new on a European river cruise. We walked every day for miles on the shore excursions, and the shoes were sooo comfortable! Highly recommend. You won’t be sorry. |
Great Shoes
I got a pair of Allbirds The World’s Most Comfortable Shoes – Allbirds and absolutely love them. They’re only $95. They’re very comfortable. They aren’t for hiking, but amazing for walking about. Definitely give them a look.
