New movie about us.
"Some Kind of Heaven" is now being shown at the Sundance Festival.
|
I can't wait. :D His preview makes me want to crawl under my bed and hide. It looks like it's going to be about what everyone who has NEVER actually been here thinks it is.
|
...
|
I want to see it!
|
You can weave a made for TV movie from the pages of the popular news website. With all it’s salacious stories and comments. Lot of material there.
|
Hollywood. That's what Dad said about the movie "Perfect Storm". I'm sure this will be lots fluff.
Hollywood.... |
I wonder who funded it.

He does seem "surprised" we are so like him. He just turned 24. If we don't like it we can get together and make a movie about young people who spend most of their time in small offices in Manhattan. Oh yes. |
I’ll go see it, sounds interesting.

I think they do it for those multimillion dollar yearly bonuses Wall Street firms give their productive employees! |

It looks like Cocoon, which was filmed in St. Petersburg, but without the Aliens.

Except they were in better shape. Where the heck was this filmed. Doesn't look like a pool. https://i.postimg.cc/mk2qnMm5/2020-01-30-11-17-44.jpg |

As I stated, the movie Cocoon was filmed in St. Petersburg. That pool house is on Park Street near Boca Ciega Bay in St. Pete, however the interior with the pool was shot in New Jersey. Here's the director Rod Howard on the right and actor Wilford Brimley on the left behind the scenes of Cocoon. Great shape, Wilford Brimley was 49 years old when he made this movie. https://www.tampabay.com/resizer/dNv...PAY4DVT77I.jpg |
I think it is somewhat insulting. He and his sister are far too young to know what aging is like. Some of us are lucky enough to sail through the aging process and then there are many others who have a terrible time facing old age and if they are alone and lonely during this period in their lives they are an easy target.
There probably is a large population of people who are lonely and cannot find companionship, but I hardly think that makes for good cinematography. Do you really want to go to the movies to see two old people desperately trying to find true love! On the other side of the coin he could have sought out the huge number of people living here who are still happily married, can afford to live their dreams and do not go around behaving as though they were still in high school. I would like to see a "real" film maker come to TV to make a movie about what the Morse family have managed to achieve over the past 30+ years, because that would be a movie worth seeing. Show the start of TV when there was nothing here and then show how it has evolved into this incredible community. Whether you like the Morse’s’ or not, they have done something that no one else has done, there is no retirement community in the world like this and there probably never will be. Show the world the number of young people relocating here and leaving the rat race to live the good life with us oldies. Show the huge variety of stores we have, the restaurants of every type, the fact that we have our own hospital, the number of urgent care clinics and on and on. Show the world how we are able to live in our aging years. Just think of how our parents aged compared to us, and show the world that instead of making us a laughing stock! and now I will climb down from my soap box! Thanks for reading :icon_wink: |

The only reason I cared is it's good to be aware of your surroundings but as he presented no threat I made no phone call about him. After all my watch is over. :ho: |
I heard through the "grapevine" that it will be showing at The Sharon and there will be limited VIP seating.

My point all along since the beginning of this thread was exactly what you stated that I partially quoted above this and what makes me cringe just seeing the short preview. The film seems to be pushing the incorrect stereotypes of those who live here. Of course until I see the whole thing it's just my quick guess based upon the quick preview clip. |

Review of Documentary

I wish it was available to see locally for those of us that live here. Any chance it will get a showing in one of The Villages theaters
|
is there a link for the trailer? I haven't SEEN/FOUND IT.

Btw, the review says there are 180,000 people here. Please say it isn’t so. I don’t think it is that densely populated — yet, although sometimes it feels like it. Speaking of such movies — remember Boynton Beach Club? I think that is the one where an opening scene starts the plot line when a woman backs out of her driveway without looking behind her. (When I walk through parking lots here, or anywhere, I keep an eye on the driver’s seat of parked cars.) I might have to see if I can find Boynton Beach Club streaming now. |
TRAILER to The Villages documentary at Sundance.
I sure hope they show it here!

Hope it's not very good. We don't need any more people here.

By the way BOOMER there are 180,000 people living here and they were all on the road and at LSL yesterday:ohdear: We must seriously be approaching "full up" in TV! I look around my little village and we all seem t be living an ordinary quiet healthy retired life and that is not what he chose to show. I go back to my earlier post where I said that a good cinematographer could make an excellent movie about retirement. |

This is what I cringe at and what I though it would be like: "This highly entertaining documentary captures the near-surrealism of a prefab senior playground, ............" Really now. "Near surreal" here? "Prefab playground."
This is supposed to be a DOCUMENTARY. It seems they use actors. If they do, it's not. |
GREAT REVIEWS!! ebp2020
Review by ebp2020 ★★★★★ This is my favorite doc at Sundance. Beautifully captivating, from the cinematography to the sensitivity and respect for the characters: Annie and Reggie, Dennis, and Barbara, this film effects us all as it delves into real issues: aging, acceptance, love, personal challenges, grief, and fulfillment in a fascinating yet surreal place: The Villages. The director's vision and understanding of all of these issues is remarkable --especially at his young age, and the editor, music, sound, and overall production was amazing. Loved it! |
