Ironing Men’s Shirts?

Is there anyone in The Villages (or really close by) who irons at home? For example, men’s dress shirts.

tophcfa 02-17-2020 04:33 PM

Toss them in the drier for a couple minutes and hang em up, good enough. The only thing I ever used an iron for was to hot wax my skis.

Treetops 02-17-2020 04:47 PM

Thank you, tried that, but they need to ironed.

kathyspear 02-17-2020 05:41 PM

Have you tried hanging them up and using a small hand steamer on them? I bought one on Amazon a while back for $20 or $25 and I am in love! Can't believe I never knew how great they are.

In love with a steamer. Sounds dangerous. ;)

I get it nothing better than a pressed shirt. Try any local dry cleaner.

Treetops 02-17-2020 10:12 PM

Thank you, but that won’t work.

Topspinmo 02-17-2020 11:11 PM

How about buying iron and doing it yourself?

Mmarr 02-18-2020 05:43 AM

Try your local cleaners.. just take the shirts in for pressing..

Magajane 02-18-2020 06:38 AM

I iron a lot of things. No big deal.

I iron and actually enjoy the peace of it. When I visit the kids, I do all their ironing to help out. It's a chore. Some people like it, some don't. And definitely YES, some things need to be ironed.

Ironing Shirts

I have a lady that irons mine for 1.50 each. Minimum 15 shirts. She lives close to the Summerfield Post office. If interested call me and leave message and I will give you her number. Oh, you must drop off and pick up and furnish hangers. She does a great job and really needs the money. My message taking phone number is 3525618899

greenflash245 02-18-2020 07:39 AM

take them to the laundry for a buck and. half each.

I bought My Little Steamer from Joy Mangano on QVC and it is wonderful. It is sold in retail stores as well. Reasonable and does the trick.

Suzieque 02-18-2020 08:18 AM

How much?

SickTime 02-18-2020 08:22 AM

I still iron my shirts, I also never put them in the dryer. I always hang them. After ironing they look great and smell great.

Melaniesplace 02-18-2020 08:32 AM

I iron almost every day. Never a big deal

valuemkt 02-18-2020 08:43 AM

I feel sorry for the OP.. One helpful comment that responded to the original question.. OP was looking for someone that will iron his shirts.. didnt ask for purchasing advice, do it yourself advice, or how to use a clothes dryer or steamer. sort of like if i asked where to buy a watch, getting responses on using your cell phone, computer or a sun dial instead.

Ironing Men's Shirts

I iron my dress shirts about once a month. A hot iron, a little starch and a five minute per shirt investment = a crisp look.

prntxpresn 02-18-2020 09:33 AM

Use a soaking wet towel is the trick to throw in the dryer & run on high for 20 minutes. Will take out wrinkles but not look pressed.

Velvet 02-18-2020 10:09 AM

When people come to your house for any service you need to consider their transport costs and their time as well as ironing at your home. I think it would start at $50 a time for a person just to come out, minimum, even if they iron 1 shirt. I think that is why posters are suggesting alternatives.

Treetops 02-18-2020 10:10 AM

Thank you! I have been in touch!

gloryall 02-18-2020 10:24 AM

I do my husband's. I could do yours.

rmd2 02-18-2020 10:58 AM

don't have an iron. don't need it. haven't ironed anything in 10 years.

Velvet 02-18-2020 11:41 AM

Well I do have an iron but I use it 2x a year. Can’t break old habits.... for beautifully hand crocheted doilies by my grandmother etc.

But when it comes to clothes, nowadays I look at the label and if it isn’t the easiest care and most comfy ever as well as stylish then it doesn’t come home. (It is really easy to do this because fabrics have really developed.)

It took a while but my hubby is finally starting to do the same... it helped that since he did his own laundry (all his life - he is super picky) and was spending a good 2 days at washing drying and ironing or going to the cleaners back and forth. While I spent 5 minutes for one mixed load to wash and another 2 minutes to put in dryer (have the latest dryer which somehow always guesses right) then go about my hobbies till the machine notifies me via WiFi that it’s done. Hang stuff immediately and voila, looks like ironed. My time 10 minutes spent or less each week.

Mary Windsor 02-18-2020 04:21 PM

Do you know how to iron men’s dress shirts? If not, I’d be happy to show you how. I iron everything, except towels.

Bleudeturquoise 02-18-2020 05:25 PM

No to Ironing

Don't buy anything that needs ironing.

Ain't got no time for that1

retirlib 02-18-2020 07:09 PM

Me too. Then buffing them with that big hunk of cork. Sadly our skiing days are behind us. Some shirts do need touching up a tad, for church,
"dress-up" dates, but golf- and tee-shirts work most days at TVs.

Not trying to tell OP what to do, just sharing how I cope with the same problem. “There is more than one way to skin a cat.”
