Costco!

For Costco lovers, REJOICE❣️
Husband and I went to the Costco in Wesley Chapel today 2/21. Husband went to the men's room and the manager was there. Husband asked him about if there's any new update about Costco coming in Central Florida or Villages area. YES... Ocala!!
Construction supposed to begin the end of this year! 🤗 Don't know exactly where in Ocala though.
We've been members since 1986 and love shopping there and because they have some great return policies or warranty extensions.
Thought we would pass on this great news... saves driving time for sure.

kcrazorbackfan 02-21-2020 08:33 PM

And it starts again..... I swear I’m going to be the 1st in line to see what the obsession is if they build that store in Ocala.

We tried the one in STL years ago and it was meh 😕 at best.

Exactly. Having shopped at Costco for 12+ years, I don’t get the obsession. Sam’s does fine by me.

punkpup 02-22-2020 12:25 AM

I still have memberships at BJ’s Wholesale Club, COSTCO & SAM’s because we still have homes in other parts of the country. I’m OK with ALL of each clubs offerings. Some things exclusive to COSTCO or BJ’s that I can’t get when in The Villages, I just have them shipped to me.

Velvet 02-22-2020 10:41 AM

Welll.... Costco is addictive. I love their kefir, will travel for it, but only a reasonable distance. Ocala is still 45 minutes from my place.

JoMar 02-22-2020 10:43 AM

Does anyone think there is a conspiracy among the Costco managers to mess with Villagers :)

Oooo. Good thought. Maybe they have all been told what to say if anyone asks. Now that would be hilarious.

Be still...my hoping/beating heart.

HOWEVER, I'll only believe it...when it's officially announced.

P.S. I LOVE COSTCO!

Must be true...I heard it in a men's room

Now I have to go and see what Kefir is. Hmmm guessing it is an Eastern food...???

Velvet 02-22-2020 01:18 PM

Kefir is fermented milk and a lot like yogurt but with more fat and healthier (and more taste as far as I’m concerned). It’s a common drink in Central Europe.

I was mowing today and heard 2 walkers talking about it. :icon_wink:

Fredman 02-22-2020 09:30 PM

I visited a horse farm in Ocala and overheard several horses discussing that costco was definetly coming. And that my friends is straight from the horses mouth:bigbow:

Northwoods 02-22-2020 09:54 PM

I overheard someone walking their dog ( the dog pooped on a lawn and they didn't pick it up) that Costco was coming.
I thought I'd try to cross-pollinate poop posts with Costco posts. Sort of a perfect storm...

Velvet 02-22-2020 09:59 PM

I don’t know about that, on my street people seem to religiously walk around with a small poop bag.

Back to Costco. We live in hope.

DangeloInspections 02-22-2020 11:16 PM

Well, if this is true, it sadly would not help me at all....I live not too far from the Fenney area, so Maps tells me from my home to Ocala is 45-49 minutes. It takes me less time to go to the one near Millenia Mall.

I of course am happy for those who live in the northern part of The Villages, as if this is true will be helpful for them. With The Villages expanding more south, I guess I was hoping more towards the Rt 44 or Rt 48, Rt 301 area......

I could be totally wrong, but for me at least Ocala seems much farther away then the Orlando, Clermont, Groveland area....where The Villages is heading to and where it is already booming by leaps and bounds.

Oh Well. life is good and we of course are still very blessed even without a closer Costco.

Frank

Mmarr 02-23-2020 06:00 AM

I understand closer to summerfield..441 north.. time will tell ..

arbajeda 02-23-2020 07:08 AM

If/when Costco actually expands into our area you will be able to read about it here:

costco.com/new-locations

So unless you live in a suburb of Jackson MS or near the Perth airport, you're out of luck.

I like shopping where the employee's get paid a decent wage, get healthcare, great prices and products and where the employee's aren't a burden on welfare.

bilcon 02-23-2020 07:22 AM

Who cares about Costco. I don’t know how big your family is, but my wife and I don’t need big box stores, when there are supermarkets within a short drive. We don’t need to buy 24 rolls
Of tissue or a 5 qt can of chili.

NJDiane 02-23-2020 07:31 AM

Although Ocala is still further than the Villages, we’d definitely go. Costco food is definitely fresher than Sam’s!

WindyCityzen 02-23-2020 08:20 AM

Yay! I’m not obsessed but like certain things and the choices it offers. Tires, optician, cheaper gas, and their in-house bakery are other features.

amdubuc 02-23-2020 08:23 AM

There’s a Costco in Ocala already. West of I-75 on 200.
Exit #350. That’s about 20 miles from the 44 entrance to 75.

That’s a Sam’s Club, not Costco.

Really

been using my Costco membership a few years and found out I don't really need to buy toilet paper 30rolls at a time anymore. So whats the big deal about having these warehouse stores nearby?

These are useful things, sure. But how often do you need them, that you'd actually be saving money by paying for a year's membership?

I go through a set of tires once every 4-6 years. I get new tires at Town Fair Tires. They provide free flat service if you buy the tires there, and discounted prices on the tires.

My insurance covers most of my eyeglass prescription every year, I just have to pay the difference (since I wear progressives). The frames are free, once every other year. So it doesn't really matter where I get them from.

If Costco gas is even 5 cents cheaper than Wawa's, it'll still cost me around 30 cents more round trip just to get it at Costco. So my total savings will be maybe 40 cents total, and require almost an hour round trip for the privilege.

Bakery items are great, if I need a dozen bagels or more. For cakes and cookies, I make my own and definitely don't need a 10-pound bag of flour in my pantry, or 3 dozen eggs hogging up space in the fridge, etc. etc.

The only thing I really found use for in the big box stores have been breathe-right strips, oral B brush head replacements, and 40-pound jugs of kitty litter. I can get the breathe right and brush heads cheaper on Amazon and the kitty litter is available at around the same price at Walmart, near my house. So no need to pay a membership fee for that.

Toilet paper is DEFINITELY cheaper when you buy it on sale at non-membership big stores like Target and Walmart, and even at supermarkets. The same with bottled water.

So I just don't see the excitement about these stores, other than the general fun of going there. You don't need a membership card for that, you can just walk in and around the aisles, get your free samples (at BJ's, don't know if they do that in the other ones), and leave with your belly full at no cost to you at all.

Costco

YES!!! Cannot wait for that to happen. Moved from California about a year ago and we were surrounded by Costcos. Love it.

haA! That's niCE! It will be a closer for us. Now...if we could just get the same "closer" idea from Trader Joe's!!

rrman3536 02-23-2020 02:46 PM

having not shopped at Costco since the late 90's ,so I can not compare it to BJ's but comparing to Sam's on 441 I still think BJ's is the better of the 2 clubs, I wish BJ's would come into this part of Fl. and save me the trip to Clermont Fl. Waiting for something To happen to change my mind, Sam's doesn't offer a discount for buying gas at the club where BJ's gives Nickel off per gallon for membership and a dime off for using their credit card plus all kinds of gas discounts for buying different products during the months

Can't wait to dump the local Sam's Club, which is the worst one I have ever visited.

Rapscallion St Croix 02-23-2020 04:56 PM

I guess I'm in the minority of folks who consider shopping a burdensome nuisance rather than a joyous celebratory event.

Sounds like they truly do nickle and dime you at BJ's :)

asianthree 02-23-2020 06:49 PM

I get why Costco lovers are waiting, I don’t get why the bashing of how much crap do you need. Unless you are funding my shopping experience I can and will spend my money at certain businesses.
If you don’t like them don’t shop there, insulating our intelligence is childish

Frank, get on the turnpike westbound off 301 and you will be in Ocala in 20 minutes. But the better Costco is Wesley Chapel. South on I-75 to exit #275 (Land O' Lakes), turn right from ramp and left at second light. Much larger Costco, no tolls, a whole lot less crowded. Just be ready to race. If you're going less than 80 you should be in the slow lane.

It's like liquid pourable yogurt. It comes in full fat, non fat, and flavors. Good over fruit. Publix and Winn-Dixie have it.

I add the unflavored to Crosby's breakfast and dinner as a probiotic.

Oh, and PS: the dark chocolate malted milk balls in Fresh Market are not mostly chocolate. Good ratio of chocolate to malted milk ball! Yum.
