Census 2020

If I recall correctly, there was an announcement that we would be getting the census 2020 postcard with the unique number to fill out the census online, I have not seen the post card yet, has anyone else? I did see where you can go online without the unique number, you just have to provide additional info, but I was curious if there was a delay in mailing these out.

I got a letter in the mail a few days ago. There was a form and a code number. You can either fill out the mail-in form or go online and enter the code. I went online and completed the online form in about 5 minutes.

Same here. Here's a picture of mine (with personal info erased) so everyone can see what it looks like. The red text is mine.

There's a section in the website you can click on if you never received the mailing.

Start here:

Census 2020

Under the boxes where you can type in your Census ID, there's a hyperlink for you to click if you do not have Census ID. It reads, "If you do not have a Census ID, click here." Click that.

Then follow the instructions after that. (I couldn't go further since I'd already taken it).

Census letter came yesterday, went online and the form was much less invasive than I thought it was going to be, took a few minutes. On a side note a relative got two (2) census letters, either the same day or adjacent days. When we opened these both had the SAME ID number, I was sure one was going to be a scam. One was the exact same form as ours, letter size folded in half, the other was normal letter size folded in thirds.

I am not sure, but door to door census workers may be using a longer, more comprehensive form for a certain percentage of the population. I say this because years ago, my mother was a census worker who did the door to door in an assigned neighborhood. The form was several pages long, double-sided. At the same time, there was a short-form. Probably a statistical thing.

The census bureau is probably conducting it in the same way today, because, you know, it’s the government and they don’t change things too often.

They have always sent a longer, more comprehensive form to a few lucky people.

The second one was a reminder that you need to fill out the survey, and came with the code so in case you never got the first one, you can still do it. I got that the day after I submitted it, I guess they had mailed the follow-up reminders only a couple of days after sending the original.

I received one of those long forms in a prior census. It was pages and pages long but I filled it out and sent it in. It is some kind of a random thing for one in ten, one in one hundred or such.

Just filled ours out.

Taltarzac725 03-20-2020 11:27 AM

Filled ours out. You do need to remember birthdays and ethnic backgrounds.

Of course, I remembered 2-24 for mine and also got my parents' right as well. I did double-check them after fact though.

Put me down as German and Irish-English-Scotch.

Dad's side came from Germany around 1870 and Mom's side from Ireland-Scotland-England around 1670 and settled in North Carolina or Massachusetts.

I thought the ethnic background part was strange. I put down United States.

You must have did "Other" and then put that in?

Taltarzac725 03-20-2020 11:44 AM

Our Stimson and Trueblood family trees go back to the mid-1600s in the US. These are on my Mom's side. My father's side has a very German name.

I guess I did. I don't have the form anymore, but I do remember typing in "United States", which sounded appropriate for me because that is where I was born and also my parents.

If it's alphabetical, Villagetinker is towards the end.

Asking for a friend...should we wait until the corona virus is over before we fill out the census?

I would do it ASAP just in case you do get ill.

Bjeanj 03-20-2020 12:43 PM

Well, it did say who is living in your household “as of 4/1/2020”.

;-)

Have more than one residence, not at at of them, so no letter or codes. Entered primary residence address enter info. Then asks if any others, entered address for each one. Answered questions, took 7 minutes total. No codes needed. You get a confirmation code and can send to any email
