Senior hours at retailers
Anyone know which retailers in our area are offering senior hours?
|
Senior shopping hours
Publix will have "senior(65+) and special medical needs shopping hour" on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 7-8 am, starting March 24.
Winn-Dixie will have "senior and high-risk medical needs hour" Monday-Friday 8-9 am. Walmart will have "senior(60+) and special medical needs hour" on Tuesday mornings 8-9 am, starting March 28. |

Senior Hour
The stupidest idea anyone could ever implement
The one group at highest risk of contracting and spreading virus contamination You tell seniors you have your own shopping hour and they flock like flies on raw meat. Really |
So the shelves in all TV supermarkets will be bare by 9.00am!
What day for under 65's |
Already being discussed here: https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...ailers-304097/

Just thank all the folks that buy way more than the need for the panic buying. Greed

We go when we need, and if they do not have what we want, we make do with what there is. When you have lived through real food shortages, one tends to treat this panic buying with a certain amount of contempt. Stay well. |

In my job, I'm sometimes just within inches of other people, and there's really nothing I can do to avoid it. But when it's possible, I distance myself. Even if that person wasn't immune compromised - there was still no reason to get so close to these strangers, in a mostly-empty town square. Especially if it's just taking a photo. You have a zoom feature on your camera. |

Thank You for words of wisdom post. :) |
Even more ridiculous?
One hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I am probably very wrong, but it is my impression that the restricted hours for senior shopping has nothing to do with "food shortages" or "Great Depression" reasons, but are simply within the protocols set up explaining seniors are more vulnerable to this virus, and thus having them shop ONE HOUR with no younger folks was safer. I only know what the folks on the podium say, and what read, but seems logical relative to what we are told.
But I am always in error |

The general idea is this: in MOST parts of the country, seniors are not the primary customers of stores. Everyone else is. So rather than force seniors to constantly be exposed to everyone else's germs all week long, they've given seniors an hour once or twice a week, where they have the stores to themselves. What is overlooked - are stores that service primarily seniors in the first place. They are few and far between, and this particular policy isn't going to be of much help to customers at the Villages. But as a company-wide policy, Publix and every other company that's implemented it, are doing a huge service to seniors by providing it. |

The Concept of this is genuinely a good hearted measure and I'm certain it will work out for some people. Lets see the Reality once it is implemented. I certainly hope it helps people. Fingers Crossed.

Senior hours at a place where almost everyone is a senior? Tough to stop laughing! Duh!
|
I always have a back up to my back up grocery supplies, but at this point I am needing items. It upsets me how this even happened to begin with. Now everyone is being forced out to get basic needs not just once, but repeatedly to find the items they need. Let's just all try to do our best distancing and limiting interactions. It's all any of us can do at this point. Everyone I have encountered has been kind and courteous.

I read on this forum a suggestion that I will use from now on. Place your grocery cart behind you when on line for the register. You can control the distance you are from the person in front of you and you will have at least the distance of the length of the shopping cart behind you. Great idea, isn't it? |
Just a few thoughts ... Elderly and people with compromised health/chronic illnesses are the most vulnerable. People on very restricted diets due to certain medical conditions are also having a hard time finding the necessary food items and supplies.
These are all the last ones who should be stuck in crowded stores trying to get what they need. Quantity limitations are a good thing as everything is gone if you don't go first thing in the morning. That said, people calling other people greedy is wrong. I believe it is FEAR, not greed. That's why it is called PANIC buying. Think about all the people who live with PTSD and other anxiety disorders. They live in fear ALL the time and now the rest of the regular normal Americans are getting a taste of that. For that matter, some of us were raised by parents who lived thought WWII in occupied Europe and have had it drummed into our heads since childhood about the rationing, long lines and starvation in the winter of 1945. Therefore, more anxiety. Since no body knows what anyone else's issues are, a little understanding and patience is in order. We are all in the same boat with this virus thing. There are so many unknowns but let's all be supportive and kind and put the anger, name calling and bullying aside. These are frightening and uncertain times. Stay home and stay safe! |

Good post NavyVet.....from one Navy vet to another, I am sort of tired of reading posts patting themselves on the back, while condemning others. FEAR is the result of not knowing and fear of the unknown trumps all other fears. Thanks for putting into perspective |
Shop like normal
If everybody would just get their groceries like they normally do, there wouldn't be any problem! I just don't get it. Is it stupidity? Fear? Mob mentality? Reminds me of traffic jams. So many people slow down to see what's going on and backs up traffic for miles on end. Human nature is so odd sometimes 😵

So it is. 🙄🥴
