Gov Desantis coming to TV tomorrow re Covid-19 TV Test Site
Governor: ‘Golf cart’ drive-thru coronavirus test site at The Villages possible
‘They’re not going to be driving their automobiles but their golf carts,’ Gov. Ron DeSantis says DeSanitis spoke about opening a pop-up COVID-19 testing site in the retirement community of The Villages, because of the demographic. According to the Centers for Disease Control Prevention, those over 65 and people with pre-existing health conditions are most at risk for the virus. However, younger populations can still become critically ill as well, according to a CDC report released this week. “Only at The Villages they’re not going to be driving their automobiles but their golf carts,” the governor quipped. Why? To bring people together?

Where does it say he's coming here?

Coming here to test The Villagers-why? There are not enough tests for people who are genuinely sick. This will be like the grocery store "grab all the food before anyone else" panic.
Get tested today-find out you don't have it, then in the next few days go play golf with someone who does and get the virus then. No sense to it. Just a governor PR stunt. |

This is why I believe people like Gracie have quit posting. I only comment on threads about the internet, cars, homes, anything but the virus, because everytime I click on one, this is what you read. One poster makes a statement about something in the news, and 7 others ask who, what, where, when, why, it's for a stunt, nothing positive, only negative thoughts and comments. I think most of you virus posters have become Debbie Downie. Go read the thread about what are people watching on TV without sports, you might learn something.

Save the limited number of tests for those who are currently showing some type of actual symptoms...not just to cater to potential voters. When there are plenty of tests to go around, then set it up so anyone feeling like it...can go get one. :ohdear: |

And by the way, Gracie had plenty to say about Ebola and what the government was not doing enough about it. She was very, very concerned. Maybe she feels less concerned, I don't know. But she's never been one to not join a fight. I disagree that the current level of comment is having an effect. |

I highly doubt the intent here is just to do an Oprah "here's a test for you, here's a test for you, everyone gets a test!" Only those who are told to get one by a doctor would be eligible. It's NOT a McTestald's that they want to open just a "Villages way" to get one if you are told to do so. That being said he ought to head to the beaches instead and swipe away the kiddies by closing the beach instead of coming here. Maybe he also wants to sell refrigerators and stoves to the new construction area. :) |
Don't go, it'll be optional bogey.
|
I only have one comment about all of this .....
“In God We Trust,” goes the motto of the United States. In God, and apparently little else. When truth itself feels uncertain, how can a democracy be sustained? |

The topic is Covid testing site coming to The Villages and the possibility that the Governor may visit. Please refrain from bashing fellow TOTV members or turning this political. These are trying times for all of us.
Thanks for your cooperation. Moderator |
Heck, I have no interest in being tested. I assume my wife and I have already been infected with the virus.
So what are we doing about it? We are avoiding being in close contact with other people so we do not spread our (assumed) infection to them. Other than that, we are enjoying our life and doing the same things we did prior to our (assumed) infection. |
I live behind the Polo Fields and could see the pop up tents being placed there. So, I took a walk to see what was going on. There were about 50 numbered tent stations, photographers and a drone camara. One woman was wearing a 'Marketing' badge and a blue polo shirt that said United Healthcare. Another man commented that he asked and was told that it was a COVID 19 testing area. It looked very well organized. I believe that knowing if someone does or does not have the virus, would go a long way in helping better prepare for dealing with it.
Stay healthy!!! |

For those posters who are going off half cocked accusing the governor and others of putting on a publicity stunt, to best tested, unless something has changed between yesterday and this morning, you MUST contact your doctor or medical facility and it then will be determined whether you need a test. This is NOT a "oh let's drive by and get tested for the hell of it" situation. There must be a medical need for the test. It seems like alot of people, and yes many seniors, are sitting on a limb like a vulture waiting for something to pounce on and be negative about.

Maybe TV should open gate on historic side so people from Stonecrest can drive their carts here. I am a villager, but this is a national disaster that means we should open our arms to everyone.
|
I believe the test center’s have been set up at the polo grounds

You have to present symptoms in order to take the test. Can not have a test for a virus before a virus appears. They are doing the best they can and this is showing their concern. If they did not take these precautions, no one knows how bad it could have been and you cannot prove a negative. It will be over at some point and life will get back to normal.
|
It would be nice if the government had used the time to actually prepare and get test kits and medical equipment instead of just saying that it is all fine, and we are ahead of the curve, and denying there could be a pandemic and saying it would just magically disappear. We don't have the capacity to do necessary testing.

Today's Daily Sun reported on the UF Health testing to be done at the Polo Grounds with drive up golf cart. To get tested, you MUST have an appointment. To request an appointment you must go to the UFHealthCovid.com website, fill out a questionnaire, and be given an appointment. No appointment paperwork, no test. The questionnaire asks about symptoms. Must have a fever.
If no symptoms, you MAY get tested with an appointment to participate in a UF Health study to see if they can quantify the percentage of asymptomatic carriers of the virus exist in the population. Still must apply online. |

Right now I assume my wife and I have the virus, but we are living the same way we were a couple weeks ago. We are going for a hopefully nice walk through the new Chiity Chatty neighborhood and will look thru some of the new homes being built. Like last week, we will talk with other people nosing around, but we will keep our distance. Life is good. |

And what about the folks who do not have a golf cart? |
