A Positive Thread
1 Attachment(s)
I propose we set one thread aside to post the positive side of this trying situation we are in. People are sewing face masks, volunteering to check neighbors, willing to give away stimulus checks, business being creative with senior and healthcare hours, etc. Here is a small but touching one I experienced with a delivery pizza. Please contribute you experiences for a brighter day.

Sorry that the forum doesn't allow for more than one "thumbs up" click.
Ya got mine! |
From other news source:
"Community Development District 1 Supervisor Craig Estep is offering his assistance to those currently and soon to be homebound by the Coronavirus. He’s offering his help in picking up pharmacy and food store orders placed by CDD1 residents who have been diagnosed with the virus or who have been required, for one reason or another, to be quarantined in their homes and have no one to help them get delivery of urgently needed food and pharmaceutical items." |
I’m starting to see more acts of kindness and people expressing their appreciation for business being open and then, there’s the flip side of those that have become damn nasty, especially at WD, Publix and Walmart.

Love seeing people spread out on driveways, sharing time with close neighbors.
Saw one house with three golf carts pulled up to a screened lanai. A lot of people lining up to watch sunsets all over TV. Lot of walkers. |
We continue to have "neighbor helping neighbor" in my village.
Thank you folks, there is a special place in heaven for all of you. |
The son of a close friend from upstate NY is now home his own business shut down. His kids are home and being home schooled out of this. He is taking them out showing them how to get a slug out of a ? some sort of nut and use it as bait to catch a fish. They are building a fort in the backyard out of pallets but he is making the kids do the work. Yesterday he gave them a class on how to change a spare tire. How do you put a value on this ?

Positive new threads in The Villages
Ditto in Fenney - neighbors helping neighbors; folks getting exercise while maintaining social distancing; working in their yards - being as productive as possible. Great spirit from TV residents from all over our great country!!
|
I love how people are putting on their lights at 8 pm ... to "light the night" across the country, to let their neighbors know that we are all in this together. Here in TV, we always have our lampposts on, and many people have landscape lighting. What else can we do to show each other that we are all in this together?

FaceTiming family and friends. Played Yahtzee with Omaha grand kids. Actually have had more interaction with family during quarantine than before.

This is a great time to start a new business related to COVID-19 and wean us off China products. When life gives you lemons.......

Donating tubs of food and $3400 to the Sozo kids in the Ocala National Forest was a pretty good gesture. Someone in Dunedin organized it and lots of people contributed.

We're only promised today---tomorrow isn't yet promised and yesterday is gone! Focusing outward to be helpers (albeit neighbors) to those around us will take our eyes off from ourselves. To focus on "what if's" just produces anxiety. I love all the comments here on what people are doing. LIFE may be a bit different but it's going to be fine if we ALL work together!

This reminds me why I love living in The Villages:

We have been taking out dinners at the various restaurants in TV and I can tell you that they really appreciate it. Don't forget to leave a tip. They need it more than we do. ( I even bring my own pen to sign the charge slip). We are both in our 80's, and thank God we are still fairly healthy and have each other. Stay safe.

God bless you and America!

In a world full of dark.....be a light
We all are aware of the things that are done wrong. How about we focus a bit more on the things done right? And the selfless people that run towards the issues, not sit at home and whine about it? I am so blessed to be in a warm place that allows me to stay as far away from this heinous sickness as is possible. Be a part of the good, smile at people and wave. It may just make their day!!:a040:

Neighbor helping neighbor
My neighbor is a support person for another neighbor whose husband is on hospice care after an 8 year fight with cancer. The caregiver is quarantining due to her husband having a fever. Though unrelated to the virus, she is required to do so.
On the lawn talking to my neighbor, the support person, she asked me to look for paper towels as the hospice patient uses a roll a day in his care and she was unable to find a supply. I was able to supply a couple rolls from my house and the caregiver was so very grateful. These people are heroes to me especially during this time of isolation and who would think how happy a couple rolls of paper towels can make someone? |
Just watched the video here from NY. This is why I also love the Villages and can't wait to move into my home permanently in 2-3 years. What a beautiful voice. I enjoyed listening to one of my favorite songs at the Villages. My only concern was that it didn't look like the people were 6 ft. away from each other. Be safe my Village friends. And hope to be back sooner than later! (Don't worry, will only come when this mess is TOTALLY OVER) Wouldn't put anyone at risk.

In fact, how about having a permanent thread in each ToTV where people can add ONLY great things to help lift people up. Looking back on all the threads over the year, it seems to me to be worthwhile. I think lots of people would add their thoughts, aspirations, hopes and so on. I really don't mean exaggerated things, just sort of slightly pink-colored. The threads now are becoming so extremely heavy; it's making it hard to breathe. I'm not certain, but I have a gut feeling that lots of people don't get much lift out of our threads these days, and they may have stopped reading what everybody is saying. At least with a Special Daily Thread, there may be something to hope for. Just MHO. |
Of the 800,000+ cases in the world, 95% are classified as “mild” and the number of recovered is up to 172,000+.

From theodysseyonline.com:
There are already prototypes of vaccines Our ability to design new vaccines is spectacular. There are already more than eight projects against the new coronavirus. There are groups that work on vaccine projects against other similar viruses and now try to change viruses. What can lengthen its development are all the necessary tests of toxicity, side effects, safety, immunogenicity and effectiveness in protection. Therefore, there are several months or years, but some prototypes are already underway. For example, the mRNA-1273 vaccine from Moderna consists of a messenger RNA fragment that encodes a protein derived from the glycoprotein S of the coronavirus surface. This company has similar prototypes for other viruses. Inovio Pharmaceuticals has announced a synthetic DNA vaccine for the new coronavirus, INO-4800, also based on the S gene of the virus surface. For its part, Sanofi will use its recombinant baculovirus expression platform to produce large amounts of the surface antigen of the new coronavirus. The vaccine group of the University of Queensland, in Australia, has announced that it is already working on a prototype using the technique called a molecular clamp, a novel technology that consists of creating chimeric molecules capable of maintaining the original three-dimensional structure of the viral antigen. This allows producing vaccines using the genome of the virus in record time. Novavax is another biotechnology company that has announced its work with the coronavirus. It has a technology to produce recombinant proteins that are assembled into nanoparticles and that, with their own adjuvant, are potent immunogens. In Spain, it is the group of Luis Enjuanes and Isabel Sola of the CNB-CSIC who have been working on vaccines against coronaviruses for years. Some of these prototypes will soon be tested in humans. There are more than 80 clinical trials with antivirals in progress Vaccines are preventive. More important are the possible treatments of people who are already sick. There are already more than 80 clinical trials to analyze coronavirus treatments. These are antivirals that have been used for other infections, which are already approved and that we know are safe. One of those that has already been tested in humans is redelivered, a broad-spectrum antiviral, still under study, which has been tested against Ebola and SARS / MERS. It is an analog of adenosine that is incorporated into the viral RNA chain and inhibits its replication. Another candidate is chloroquine, an antimalarial that also has a potent antiviral activity. It is known to block the infection by increasing the pH of the endosome that is needed for the fusion of the virus with the cell, which inhibits its entry. It has been proven that this compound blocks the new coronavirus in vitro and is already being used in patients who have caused the virus pneumonia. Lopinavir and Ritonavir are two protease inhibitors used as antiretroviral therapy that inhibit the final maturation of the AIDS virus. As the SARSCov2 protease has been shown to be similar to that of HIV, this combination has already been tested in patients with the coronavirus. Other proposed trials are based on the use of oseltamivir (a neuraminidase inhibitor used against influenza virus), interferon-1b (protein with antiviral function), antisera from already recovered people and monoclonal antibodies to neutralize the virus. Even new therapies with inhibitory substances, such as baricitinibin, have been suggested by artificial intelligence. The 1918 flu pandemic caused more than 25 million deaths in less than 25 weeks. Could something similar happen again today? As we see, most likely not. We have never been better prepared to fight a pandemic. |

:):):)OK, I have some things I'm trying to do at home to relieve the boredom.
1. Today, I tried to make Hand Sanitizer. It came out as Jello Shots. 2. I put liquor bottles in every room. Tonight, I'm getting all dressed up and going Bar hopping. 3. Struck up a conversation with a Spider today. Seems nice. He's a web designer. 4. Watched the birds fight over a worm. The Cardinals led the Blue Jays 3-1. 5.If you keep a glass of wine in each hand, you can't accidentally touch your face. 6. I realized why dogs get so excited about something moving outside, going for walks or car rides. I think I just barked at a squirrel. 7 I get to take the Garbage out. I'm so excited, I can't decide what to wear. Stay safe everyone. |

Hi rustyp, your post reminded me of a discussion here on TOTV, months ago: Which way should the screws in electrical plates be turned? Should they be horizontal or vertical? You might want to check yours while you are cataloging those light bulbs. I had never thought about the turning of the screw before, but I soon learned that opinions are definite and opposing. As I thought it through, I realized that willy-nilly screws are fine with me, as long as the switchplates stay on the wall. Even though, at that time, nobody called me names for that liberal thinking, I bet if the screw direction topic came around again, it would devolve into a knock-down-drag-out. :boxing2: (Thanks for the thread rustyp. I am not worried about opening this one and ruining my morning. :) ) |
Forgot to post this feel good moment some of us were fortunate to see Wed afternoon. I heard the boom boom boom like those cars with 10000 watts of bass going by. Looked out the window and a red pickup truck pulling a trailer was going by. In the trailer was a singer doing the Karaoke thing with some very impressive equipment. They stopped and performed a couple songs. No name of who but very talented. It was amazing how many golf carts stopped (and also kept their social distance) and some started dancing in the street. Lots of smiles and applause.
