Suggestion: TV Daily Sun Newspaper Should Be Distributed Free During the COVID-19 Pan

The Villages Daily Sun (TVDS) newspaper should consider delivering it to every household in The Villages FOR FREE during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

Alternatively, TVDS could at least consider putting the entire daily edition online and make it available to all residents for free during this pandemic.

There are many people in our community that do not subscribe to TVDS for various reasons. Thus, they are missing out on critical public health information. This endangers all the community. Thus, the powers-that-be at TVDS could provide a public service by providing online and/or physically delivered newspapers during the pandemic.

P.S. I am a paid TVDS subscriber.

anothersteve 03-30-2020 07:37 PM

Why? It's like only twenty cents a day now.

There's no such thing as "free" ...

No thanks. I have no need of that rag in my world. You can’t truly believe that rag has important info only available there.

graciegirl 03-30-2020 08:10 PM

It is a for profit business. The sort of thing a solid economy is based on. Why do you think it should be free? People hold jobs there. Real people. And the developer isn't our mom.

Some of us don’t believe in OZ:duck:

Daily Sun

Why.......................

CGIFEDERAL 03-31-2020 04:46 AM

this begs the question, What are you giving away free? like every other business the Sun has to make a profit to keep printing. for those who do not subscribe, you are missing out on very good local news. just because there are those who don't care or are too cheap to pay does not mean the news is free. why don't you ask a neighbor to let you read his/her paper when they are finished reading it.

Seriously? The Daily Sun is practically free as it is. The pandemic seems to have opened the floodgates for the entitlements. Let’s stick to making sure only absolute necessities are made available gratis, like testing and treatment.

davidakins 03-31-2020 05:25 AM

What a great idea! I am sure you will volunteer to reimburse the Daily Sun for any additional costs incurred while doing so. I am always impressed by people who know how to spend other people's money. How noble! LOL

swooner 03-31-2020 05:34 AM

Virtually no information of value. Mostly dumb questions from Villagers.

Huh?

goldbers 03-31-2020 05:51 AM

There is nothing crucial in the villages newspaper. There are plenty of places to get your news these days. If you need the paper they sell it at the mailboxes.

You're kidding of course. The owners of TVDS don't give ANYTHING away for free!!

this is one of the dumbest, bleeding heart suggestions that I've heard in quite awhile...I give a lot of $$$ to causes, but I'm tone deaf to helping those that don't lift a finger to help themselves

I agree the Daily Sun is really really “Cheap”out of pocket cost. If you can’t afford the Sun, then you surely can’t afford to live in The Villages. I would wager if you call them today your paper would start tomorrow. :bigbow:

DecaturFargo 03-31-2020 06:22 AM

I do not want any information, health or otherwise, from this locally-owned paper. I'll stick with other more experienced papers, tv and online sites. Thanks though.

jaye_wolfe 03-31-2020 06:25 AM

I won't agree about your comment about the questions. But your comment the value of the information is spot on. "Yesterday's news tomorrow."

bmit16 03-31-2020 06:36 AM

Like you can't get all the fake news you need from the television! People who want free everything are in the wrong place. Nothing is free. If you can not afford the paper, stop it.

BarbyM 03-31-2020 06:46 AM

I suspended the Daily Sun recently because of this COVID19 going around. It's just like the mail, it carries the virus germs for over 24 hours. You do not know how many hands have been on that paper. No paper for me til this virus is over. Everything is online that I need right now to read. Use their app. Who wants to leave their paper in the driveway for 24 hours anyway.

bdw08 03-31-2020 06:46 AM

Why????

musicjack999 03-31-2020 06:48 AM

If people choose not to get the paper why should the Daily Sun be expected to provide it for free? By the way, the Salvation Army’s food pantry is extremely low right now and in need of our help.

Windguy 03-31-2020 06:50 AM

I wouldn’t read that biased, ancient history if I found it on my driveway even if I wasn’t worried that it might be infected with COVID-19. If I did find the papers on my driveway, I’d have to disinfect them and then waste trash bags to hold them until trash day.

No, thank you. I’ll stick to the internet for news that is actually current.

WindyCityzen 03-31-2020 07:10 AM

The Daily Sun is the LAST source I’d depend on for credible news on any serious matter. Read a REAL newspaper online.

WindyCityzen 03-31-2020 07:11 AM

For real virus info: CDC.gov.

greenflash245 03-31-2020 07:13 AM

agree. isn't it on line now?

greenflash245 03-31-2020 07:14 AM

agree

greenflash245 03-31-2020 07:15 AM

good plan

huange@verizon.net 03-31-2020 07:17 AM

Why would you even post something like this especially at a time when so many working people are being laid off and losing out on paychecks? So many other hourly sources for Covid19 updates besides a daily newspaper.

Bay Kid 03-31-2020 07:18 AM

Give me, give me, give me. Make everything free.

dmarti1973 03-31-2020 07:21 AM

Free?? Really?? Are you volunteering to deliver the paper using your vehicle and your gas for free?

GoldenBoy 03-31-2020 07:25 AM

I'll stick with the Orlando Sentinel delivered daily to my door.

Made the switch to the Sentinel months ago. It is a little more expensive, but it has actual news in it. It has It isn't just noise like the Daily Sun. Also, it is much smaller than the Sun. It is amazing to me that it has half the pages and ten times times the actual news.

Heresy! Heresy! :icon_wink:

merrymini 03-31-2020 07:44 AM

Why free? They are a business and are in business to make money. You can get most of that information on line anyway. Why is it that people always want someone else to foot the bill?

retiredguy123 03-31-2020 07:48 AM

I don't want someone putting a newspaper on my driveway every day. I don't even like it when someone delivers a free flyer every month or so, but, apparently, there is no way to stop it. Please leave my driveway alone.

Sjshanl 03-31-2020 07:56 AM

There’s more than enough news sources out there already. And read the upper left corner of the local news section.

I see you’re a newby with 2 posts; are you new here or are now with nothing to do and decided to start putting non-sensical posts in TOTV?

Make the suggestion to Winn Dixie and Publix that they should make all their food free.....
