Robocall industry decimated by Coronavirus
Haven't had a robocall for a couple weeks. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Such a *sad* day for that industry!
:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl: |
According to Robokiller in the last 2 weeks i have had 4 which is a usual low end 1 day occurrence on my cell.
|
The same could be for drug dealers, most likely anyone hanging out in a street corner, these days must be a dealer or a user--makes the job way easier for LEO's

While it's kind of a misnomer, it does a great job of zapping junk calls. |
I have been getting maybe one a day, if that. Before the Wuhan virus isolation began I was getting 6-8 calls a day on my landline. What a relief!
|
I haven't really noticed any difference in the number of calls. But, I actually don't mind getting the calls. Although, I hope the banks aren't approving stimulus loans and grants for the telemarketers, but they probably are eligible.

Haven’t had a free car mailed in weeks

I’ve noticed that too. Hope it puts them out of business.

Amen!!! Whoever "invented" robo calls needs to be eliminated . Maybe I'll call one of my Sicilian friends from NJ to take care of them!
|
I seem to recall reading that Apple, Google, Samsung, etc. put into place last month proprietary programs meant to identify robocallers and block them before you ever get the call. It may be that this is why the number of calls has decreased. I’m not certain about this, but I read in Consumer Reports a couple months ago that this was coming soon. There are exceptions, alas, such as people who have previously answered calls from a company or showed some interest in a product.

Interesting
We moved here two months ago and Verizon would only give new numbers for a month before saying old number was disconnected. As a result robo calls way down thankfully Robo callers do not know our new number. |
I get one persistent one, when I turn my cellphone on in the morning, it informs me of the one call it blocked. It's always the same number, got to admire their tenacity.
|
Funny timing. I noticed the same but yesterday and already today I seem to be back on the list.
Last week I had to turn off my “silence unknown callers” on my iPhone since I had 2 teledoctor appt’s and that was the only way to catch those calls. |

Jordan has an easy uphill 4 footer, he hasn't missed one of these in 6 months |
Since I switched my landline to MagicJack (magicjack.com) we get ZERO junk calls. They have a call screening feature that asks all callers to enter a random number (1-9) before my phone will ring. Plus it costs only ~$40/year compare to $15/month with Comcast.

Oh my God, you mean the last time I got a robocall and wished they’d all drop dead came true?
|
I was worried because I wasn't getting any robo calls so I reentered my phone number with the government no call list.
|
Did not realize until this posting lit the bulb.... Us too. We would normally get at least 4 robocalls at our home phone (ooma) every night. Screen calls, mostly hangups or warranty....etc. We'd block the numbers to no avail. Few on our cell phone...luckily. But for the last 2 weeks or so - NADA!
It's one of the very few positives re this virus impact. I'm surprised as one would think these call are all programmed via the net - why would they have stopped? Perhaps the virus fatally attacked these bad guys. perhaps. |
