What it actually says:
Starting Wednesday, April 8, all Championship and Executive Golf Courses will close at 4:00pm following the last tee time. No tee times will be available after 4:00pm on any Championship or Executive golf courses. This means, anyone wishing to play golf must have a tee time prior to 4:00pm on any Championship or Executive course. Anyone found on a Championship or Executive golf coursewho did not have a tee time prior to 4:00pm will be asked to leave the course. As usual, all golf courses are for golfing traffic only. |

This new straight 18 only is going to cut back on golfers. I put in a request last Friday night for this coming Friday, for 3 golfers between 1:00 and 1:30 pm at 6 championship golf courses and we didn't get anything.
I could understand if I had asked for 11:56 to 1:00, but I guess a lot of people want to play only 9 holes, because 1:00 is the magic number for nine holes only. In our case, we want to play 18 and anything later is too late for us. They should really make 9 hole requests start at 2:00 or 3:00. |
Does the virus sleep during the day and wake up after 4:00 PM?
|
Maybe it’s because of the mosquitos? The county has started spraying a month earlier than usual.
|
You only gave them a 30 minute window. Why didn’t you just tell them you want to play at 1:16, that being the only time you want. You have to give them at least four hours if you want to get a tee time.

It's due to staffing - employees going on hiatus or quitting. With the lack of respect most golfers give our courses, it is necessary to have some oversight and there aren't enough workers to staff the extended summer hours. I dread seeing what those courses are going to look like after the hackers get out there without anyone reminding them not to drive on the greens or to sand their divots - oh, that's right they don't do that even when there is someone to remind them! You know there will be those who don't respect the "closed" signs.

Play early, play often.

I assume it is not allowed to walk on any course after 4:00PM? Please confirm.

I figured you normally have 7 teetimes in an hour and 3 different nines, so 21 groups can go off in any hour. With this new system, only 7 can go off in an hour. Big reduction in players. I can get a 3:00 teetime on Friday for a few courses, we might just play nine holes after I talk to the other guys. |
I would think you could still walk on the executive courses. Can easily finish in 2hours witha 4PM Tee time.
|
Can you say reduction of amenity fees..............please.

Director of Golf
I understand that a number of golf course workers do not want to staff the starter shacks (due to the virus), however leaving the courses open after the staffer has left should not be a problem. I work for The Villages and normally do not get back home until approx. 6pm. It is nice to be able to just find an executive course and get in a quick round or even just a few holes before it gets dark. I understand closing the Championship courses (if that is what you need to do), however there is no reason to kick people off the Exec courses after 4pm. If staffing is an issue, alternated days, where some days the courses are open 7am-4pm and some days the courses are open 10am-7pm.....Thank you for your consideration....

Seeing everyone is using the champ course to walk, run, ride, skate, dog walk with no leash, roller blade, I am planning a group of my motorcycle buddies to ride the camp course trails. Will stay on the paved part and enjoy the scenery. After 4 pm for sure.

I was told by an ambassador at Amberwood yesterday that the 4:00 tee time is the last on any course. Any one that is on the course after that will be asked to leave. My friend said as a joke, what are you going to do if they don't? His very stern response was that they are to call the police.
|
I have only played golf very late in the day since Covid19’s spread. I try to play alone. Maybe one other straggler like me joins me. I play starting around 6:30. I paid annually trail fees. To be honest I’m very disappointed in this change. I don’t expect or want sympathy... just disagreeing with the decision.
|
Maybe management figures that allowing walk ons after 4pm on a first come, first served basis will end up being an unorganized mess. And that mess could lead to trouble among Villagers, which is not something we need right now. We too have paid our trail fee, but are resigned to waiting until the population thins a bit.

I'll work a starter shack. What else is there to do?

Why the cut-off at 4? As daylight hours expanded playing time, many of us have played many rounds after staff left for the day. We did not damage the course because staff weren't around - we treated it the same way we always do - in our case with respect. Those who have bad golf manners no doubt treated the course just as badly before 4 as they would after.
This ruling will cause a revolt. People who see no good justification for the arbitrary shut-down will go out and play anyway - which puts the ambassadors in an impossible position. They will be expected to tell fellow golfers to leave a perfectly playable course and many will respond "Nope - we're just going to keep playing." Then what?? |

One quick observation...the current District Weekly Bulletin, dated today (4/8/20), does not mention that people on the course after 4:00 without a tee time will be “asked to leave” like some previous statements had said. I have no idea if that is significant at all. |
:ohdear::ohdear: Get ready for the end to golfing for awhile. Saw idiots teeing off at Redfish and Tarpon on the first tee at 5:30.

Since there is no one from the golf course to call what are the best options to report violators? Community Watch, the Sheriff? Has anybody had the opportunity to address this?
