Spa/ Hot tub install
 

Hello,
Has anyone had an above ground spa delivered via curb side delivery? Who did you use to move to the lanai?
Electrical etc. Ideas on cost for both?
Any help would be appreciated.

We bought a Viking spa from T&D in Colony plaza. We decided on a plug-and-play 110 model, just plug it in. No additional wiring required. We heard that a 220 spa electrical outlet would cost about $1,000. The prices vary according to features. The price from T&D ncluded set-up and delivery. There were 4 guys with a 4 wheeled dolly. They needed to remove the lanai screen door and sone screening above it. They put it in place, attached the cover lifter then started to fill it. Then they replaced the screen door then 1 guy stayed to finish filling it then he showed us the basic operations and chemical start up. Before the delivery they sent someone out to see if it actually will fit in our lanai. Pretty simple.

Some additional words of caution, if you are installing a 240 volt spa/hot tub you need 2 permits, a spa permit, and an electrical permit, your electrician cannot get the electrical permit without the spa permit. Been there done that.... Do NOT rely on the installer to get all of the permits, double check that this was done (been there done that!!). The spa permit will cover glass in the area, and grounding of any nearby metal. The electrical permit will cover the GFCI breaker, wiring, disconnect switch, etc. The previous $1000 may be a little high but is in the ballpark.

Another aspect with a hard wired spa/hot tub--they are treated the same as a swimming pool--lights & fans can not be less that 90" above the water line of the pool--if its a 110 v pool--, no such rule --its considered portable

Some thoughts that may or may not help you.

If you house not wired with 220v outside outlet you would want to get 110 volt plug and play which requires no permits, but single wired outside GFCi outlet would be better for amount current it may draw off multi outlet line?

The 110V plug and play come with GFCi on the cord. Which you could place on you lanai, but does that multi-circuit line have enough amps to run hot tub? Best to have its own individual wiring of circuit breaker in the circuit breaker box.

Now the big question how am I going to get it through gate, in the back yard, or in the lanai? You have have gate at least 34” wide which most are probably? the hot tub turns on its side cause it 34” high and will squeak through most gates. If you got screened lanai same problem. You can get moving dolly capable of supporting 400 plus pounds.

How do I know this mine circuit board problems and I gave it away two men in small truck came and got it. IMO it was 10 years plus old and too expensive to repair.

I too think about getting another one with the same dilemma as you.

Be real careful with Spa Kingdom, they were the ones that did NOT pull all the permits.

We had a great experience with Spa Kingdom. They made it very clear that they do not normally get the permits so we did that ourselves.

Then we used Scott's Electric to put in the 240 volt line and they got the permit for that. A person from the permit office later came for the final inspection.

The hot tub was $8K and Scott's electrical work was $1400.

We like the hot tub very much. We were very pleased with the work Scott's did and later hired them to remove our hanging light in out dining area and put in pocket lights, and also to install soffit lights around the outside of our lanai.

Fyi . make Sure you get details of guarantee. 30 days ? 90? One year? Make sure no charge for each trip to you . I had enjoyment but a few problems in nj. They are relaxing in the winter snow!!!

Oh by the way most 110 volts models are best with less jets . make sure you get an air blower and understand what filter cycle they use . best to have either a always on 24 your cycle or hourly . not just when it heats up. In Florida can be hot and not recirc water a lot .

We had a 110 volt plug and play spa. It was easy to install and set up. We came in thru our front door and it was a direct shot out the sliders to the patio. The only issue we had was that the 110 V wasn't enough to run both the heater and the jets at the same time. This was not a problem if we stayed in for about 30 minutes or less. Be sure you understand which chemicals to use and how often.

Hot Tub delivery
 

Softubs are lightweight (about 80 lbs) and can be rolled into place. They aren't cheap, they cost as much as a regular spa, but we loved ours. They last a very long time. They use 110 v. and are cheaper to operate electric. I cannot imagine trying to move a regular heavy spa from the curb. Some of the blow up spas you buy on Amazon may seem fine in the pictures but our son bought one and the motor was so loud he couldn't operate the jets while he was in it. There may be others but he had an Intex I believe. Softub | "Simple is Better(R)"

You will need permits. If any window is 6 feet of spa it has to have tempered glass. It goes on and on. We just bought one and it’s costing us 3,000 extra for electric, etc.

Only for 240V here. 110V are considered portable unless they recently changed rules or which county you live in?

Hot Springs Spas are great above ground spas
 

If you are looking at spas, be sure and check out the Hot Springs Spas at Florida pool and Spa Warehouse in Leesburg. You can even bring your suit and try it out. These spas have a salt water system that works great, no or little need to add chlorine. These spas are top of the line and more expensive but worth it. They will deliver and set up, train you and also have an electrician for one price. Talk with Tyler, he is very knowledgable. Tell him I sent you. The spas are all different sizes and most come either 110v or 240v.

If you live in Sumter County you must get a permit spa even for a 110 volt. If it is outside the lanai you must obtain ARC approval. Spa must be 60" away from any electrical or windows with glass that is not tempered. Sliders have tempered glass.

Best to check with Sumter County for yourself.
