What do you think of this ?

After playing today, my wife, my brother -in-law and myself went to TDS takeout, ordered some beers to go and found a nice place to park our carts, 10 feet from each other. Three of us having a beer and practicing social distancing. Sounds good right ? An ambassador stopped by us and told us that we couldn't be having large gatherings and that we needed to go ? A large gathering, 3 people with 10 feet between us. Really ? I questioned him about it and he said he was just the messenger. Sorry he has to deliver a message where obviously nobody can use common sense and see that are following the guidelines.

Sad, but I think you have to cut him some slack, especially at TDS. I played there a few days ago and they were extremely adamant about groupings and social distancing. An ambassador explained that the homeowners around TDS have an usually high concentration of self appointed coronavirus police, armed with their cell phone cameras, and have pretty much been taking non-stop pictures of anyone THEY consider violating the distance guidelines. TDS just doesn't want any trouble. They should consider setting off a limited EMP bomb to kill the chips in these people's cell phones:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

To quote Petula Clark from "Don't sleep in the Subway"----"We've heard this all a million times"

For those that still have reading comprehension issues:

Stay at home means stay at home, EXCEPT for essential service and activities, of which golf is one of them.

So you stay home, hiding under your bed, while the rest of us get some exercise.

Don't Understand

I don't understand why the Ambassador is being challenged when in fact he was doing a good job. A lot of people think that as long as they feel safe then all is fine. They don't think of the medical people and support that have to walk by and through the area they are occupying and the risk to them! Our son works in a Rehab that cares for everyone from infants to senior citizens who have had brain damage from either abusive parents, or accidents, birth injuries or age etc. He doesn't have the option to avoid going out and staying home so he is at risk to those who elect to throw cation to the wind, ignore the medical recommendation to stay home or only expose others by going to the market, Doctor, or other Emergency Needs. Sitting outside either at the squares, or other public places is to put the other person who MUST go out at risk. Shame on you and thanks to the Ambassador who had the good sense to send you off. :ohdear:

I would have said, "Okey Dokie", complied, and never thought about it again. That is the way most people handle the small stuff.

That's nothing. Watch this video of cops in Philly pulling a guy off a bus for not wearing a mask.

Wednesday late afternoon my wife and I and another couple in there cart were having ice cream across the street from Culver’s in a parking lot under the trees, all the businesses were closed the lot was empty when an unmarked SUV pulls up with 6 sheriffs in it. One sheriff got out and told us we had to be at home.
Florida is under a lock down and you are not supposed to be out unless getting essentials or golfing. Guess you were finished golfing.

ufu1395 04-11-2020 05:56 AM

I'll assume you're just pulling our legs.

Since when do 6 deputies ride around in a single SUV, unless they're headed for the donut shop?

But I like the hypocrisy of 6 sheriffs in a SUV lecturing a couple outdoors on social distancing

jedalton 04-11-2020 06:31 AM

Pauld315: We stopped at a small recreational area on the golf cart path, just a few minutes from TDS, where they have some picnic tables. A few small groups were there as well to share some social time and drinks with friends. And please if you're so inclined, don't start with the stay at home comments....not interested.

It’s a shame that the ambassador had to risk his own safety to attempt to keep you and others in your group safe.
Too bad he wasn’t able to intervene in the activities that caused seven people in Sumter county to get the virus and die

karostay 04-11-2020 06:42 AM

Stay at home means stay at home...I would love to hear why anyone thinks they have the right not to do so..Other than emergency or gathering essentials
I'm an avid golfer and having any of the golf courses open just encourages people to risk their health and the health others

well now you know that having ice cream under the shade of a tree is non-essential....and BTW, there's only one sheriff....the rest are called deputies

ladybugsmom 04-11-2020 07:17 AM

LadyPenO 04-11-2020 07:19 AM

Isn't Dunkin Donuts across the street from Culvers? Thought so.....A friendly reminder of our quarantine doesn't hurt! Stay safe!

I saw you guys having a beer and having a good time. I thought . . ."good for them.!" When I saw you, you were in the postal station parking lot so hopefully the ambassador didn't over extend his responsibility of the golf course. Maybe you just moved to the parking lot from where you were. Anyway, I saw three guys appropriately distanced having a good "guy" time.

Sorry, stay st home does not mean stay at home, if you don't want to. Just another example of a the "Panic-demic".

JudyLife 04-11-2020 07:34 AM

Here in the UK we are not allowed to ‘gather’ with anyone other than one person, hence a ‘gathering’ of two persons only. We had nearly 1000 deaths from Covid-19 yesterday. We are following the advice here 100%. It’s to stop the spread. What exactly don’t you understand about this situation?

Taking pictures!! More entitled residents who have a totally boring life.

soniak4@gmail.com 04-11-2020 07:52 AM

Let me tell you why!!! There are many, I repeat, many players who continue to gather after they play 18 holes to “shoot the poop”. People, who don’t play golf, are reporting them. Also, the Morse family is getting THOUSANDS of calls, emails, letters every day from people who think the golf courses should be closed. So, if you want the courses to get closed, keep gathering. If you want them to open, go home and gather.

SIX sheriffs you say? All in one SUV???? They said that you had to be home???? SIX??? All in one car????? Wow. UNMARKED? Holy cow.

Eg_cruz 04-11-2020 08:01 AM

The problem is a lot of people are doing that. There is a Thursday night group that bring their lawn chairs there and sit in the parking in a group eating. The soon we all stay home the soon we can get back to work

J1ceasar 04-11-2020 08:05 AM

Six cops can't fit into an SUV. They would need a bus .:)

donassaid 04-11-2020 08:12 AM

We had a similar experience yesterday playing at Glenview except we were in the parking lot tallying up scores but also keeping our distance. We were told by an Ambassador that TV would shut down golf if we were allowed to do that.

What does TDS stand for?

hoopsterdad 04-11-2020 08:42 AM

tierra del sol. wife and i were there golfing and guilty of trying a have a quick beer with our friends. ambassador politely had us leave area, we then went to back, ordered our fish fingers. while waiting, saw 4 gentleman golfers pull up, parked their 4 carts apart, then walked up to the ordering table and stood shoulder to shoulder ordering a drink. guess they did not hear my 6 ft. comment. going to lose our golf if we do not adhere.

Similar thing happened to us at Evans Prairie. We thanked ambassador for his concern and stayed in parking lot under shade. (All carts were at least 6 feet apart).

Also some homeowner took our pic while we were on the course; not sure why as we were a threesome, each in her own cart, maintains social distance.

Just an FYI. Thirty six states including Florida have permitted certain recreation activities such as golf remain open. If you don’t like that ruling complain to your government official. And just as an example, I may not like the outrageous behavior of those here in the Villages who frequently over indulge on spirits at each town square but I don’t see anyone doing anything, including law enforcement, about that

Everyone’s a boss.

hal195z 04-11-2020 10:23 AM

Also, it is against the law to drink alcohol while sitting in your golf cart. It is the same as drinking while sitting in your car. Ask the sheriff if you don't believe me.
