I could not agree more. I went to Publix yesterday and the shelves were stocked with everything but paper goods which they can’t help because of TP stupidity. I made sure to thank all staff I met, up to and including the man wiping down carts before reuse. We really want for nothing.

Jima64 04-11-2020 07:21 PM

amen to the above comments. so thankful for those out there working to keep us fed and stocked and safe.

Northwoods 04-11-2020 08:45 PM

I agree. People are complaining about golf, but think about the people who work in the grocery store deli or check out. They can't social distance, and they come in much closer contact than 90% of people on a golf course. I give them so much credit.

Thank you.

And thank you all for going ALONE to supermarkets and not bringing your significant others or kids or grandkids or parents as if it were an enjoyable outing, and not a necessary, and potentially dangerous task.

And thank you for NOT bringing your pets in and insisting that the adorable little Peekapuggle in your arms is a service animal. If it's in your arms or in a doggie-stroller - it's not on duty. Get it out of the store.

And thank you for NOT touching me in the aisles. Not even if you are feeling warm and kind and wanting to give my shoulder a squeeze. I appreciate the sentiment - but please don't touch me. MY life might depend on it.****

****Edited to note: once this pandemic is over, I will probably want to give ALL of my customers a hug. I hope some of you will let me.

From this post I am assuming you are working at Publix. From the bottom of my heart I sincerely thank you for putting yourself in jeopardy to keep us supplied. We often don’t agree on the forum, but in this case, I applaud you. ❤️

Sorry, but no. My days of hugging friends hello and even shaking hands are over. I will give a bow and namaste.

My housecleaning/sanitation regimen will likely continue to be much more thorough than before. An ounce of prevention and all.

We will all do what we need to do but I bow to no one except God.

No bowing needed, but I'll take the namaste and return it in kind!

Some will believe you but I do not. I do so love your British humor. I hope to salute you and your wife and give you a virtual hug when this is over.

Fresh Market new rules for shopping

I shop all our local grocry stores and this morning had an email from Fresh Market setting up the new rules on how to use their stores .............

ALL employees will be wearing masks
ALL customers must be wearing masks
Limiting the number of customers in the store at one time
Special sensible hours for seniors
Relaxed evening shopping hours
Two cart lengths between customers

We are lucky to have great stores with excellent managers and workers. Thanks to all.

BevSparks 04-12-2020 09:51 AM

Also, if anyone has masks or knows someone who is making them, please donate to local stores, many employees do not have masks and can't buy them. Thanks

Rosebud1949 04-12-2020 10:35 AM

I ECHO all those sentiments on Publix... Walmart... Ace... Walgreens etc & First Responders ........They are doing a great job... and it is much appreciated.....

You can make up to three masks with a single woman's medium tee-shirt, with just a pair of scissors. No sewing, no rubber bands or hair ties.

I'm dreading the moment when it will be required, I have enough of a hard time breathing as it is. Deviated septum has one nostril closed - the other is narrowed due to chronic allergies. Covering my nose and mouth with a mask makes me feel like I'm in a coffin. It's terrifying and I hate it.

But if it's required, I'll do it and I've put one in the golf cart, one in the car, and will keep one in my purse just in case.

NotGolfer 04-12-2020 11:41 AM

There is also a tutorial on Youtube to make masks out of socks. I saw one on a friend's FB page. NOT as professional looking as a sewn one but serves the purpose. Also saw a similar tutorial on how to make them from tights. I'd say measure your face as we found not all masks are the same due to head sizes.

They have to deal with health concerns and Villagers Hats off :BigApplause: :super:

Thank you for the thanks! I do work in the healthcare field. It is warmhearted and humbling to see the kindness of those who appreciate us. My work has received kind food donations and a local café had a very generous, anonymous donor pay for coffee beverages for team members where I work! Can't go in the café but with a call ahead or stand outside the door, a beverage is free from the thoughtful person who provided this great gift. So thanks back to the folks who have given back, it truly does work both ways. Thank you!

Velvet 04-12-2020 01:11 PM

I have no strong enough words to express my thanks to these people who work and put themselves out there so that we may eat and have our supplies, I am very, very grateful.

I dusted once. It came back.
I'm not falling for that again. :1rotfl:

I haven't left my house in weeks. Last week I cancelled my cleaners as I'm too afraid to let anyone in my house. I sent a check and paid them anyway. Not their fault there's a pandemic.
Ordered face masks from Amazon but they cancelled it.

You might try check checking etsy.com for cloth face masks. I ordered some cloth masks from a lady here in suburban Chicago. Haven't tried the mask on yet as I haven't left my house (in suburban Chicago) for the past 8 days.

Keep This In Mind!

Copied from a good friend who works in Shoprite.

“Keep this in mind, please: grocery store cashiers are scared xxxxless of you right now. We are scared of your casual coughs, we are scared of your potentially asymptomatic yet contagious children, we are scared of you. We don’t find your jokes amusing, “haha I’m supposed to be in quarantine right now.” It’s not funny. It’s absoxxxxinglutely terrifying.

You feel anxiety when you go into a store for 20 minutes? We are spending our entire work week at that level of anxiety. Unhappy we don’t have your Ancient Grains bread? Ok. Confused as to why there’s no tofu? Ok. Can’t believe there’s no kosher chicken? Ok. Here’s the thing: we know, it’s frustrating. But. Keep. Your. Frustration. To. Your. Self. We are already stressed out enough.

We smile, we say hi, we don’t scream when you cough. We don’t run when you stand too close. We don’t punch you in the face when you stand in our space, expecting us to bag for you while you joke about how, “wow this is basically the only place to go now that everything is shut down...”. And yes... we are thrilled to be getting a paycheck. However...

We don’t want you telling us we should be thrilled to be getting a paycheck. Say thank you to the next cashier, stock person, cleaner you have. Look them in their actual eyes and say, “Thank you.” You’re able to get food because we are working. And we are scared. Keep this in mind today.”

Your post is outstanding. I did say thank you on Friday to every Publix employee I encountered.
Because of them, we eat. You nailed it ! ❤️

A grocery store clerk, truck driver, bus driver, waiter, car wash attendant and almost ever normally employed person are far more important than actors and athletes.
I find it funny that some people are so dull witted that their idols are actors and athletes rather than real heroes and real statesmen.

I so agree. I’ve never needed a movie star, singer or sports jock to get me thru life.

People shopping need to do their part. Was in Publix by Mulberry Saturday and I'd say less than 20% of the customers were wearing masks. Many of those that did wear gloves left them on the ground or in the cart for employees to clean up after them. Maybe a one-way trashcan at the exit doors and some signage would help. But, likewise, none of the staff I saw were wearing masks or maintaining social distancing. Management's failure. To management's defense, they had drawn lines on the floor and installed sneeze barriers in front to cashier Didn't notice about gloves.

I shop at Publix by Rohan. I would guesstimate that 50/60 percent of shoppers wore masks and a good 50% of employees. I did not see many wearing gloves and disposing of them improperly.

OrangeBlossomBaby 04-13-2020 08:16 PM

Not everyone can wear a mask and work. People taking in carts are out in the 80+ degree ridiculous humidity, keeping a pretty safe distance from other people. Covering their noses and mouths in those conditions could make it incredibly difficult to breathe.

I wear glasses. I did an experiment and tried weeding my garden the other day while wearing a mask. When I weed I'm also wearing gloves (industrial nitrile gloves, thicker than surgical gloves, not as thick as gardening gloves and 100% more flexible and form-fitting).

The breath coming out of my nose was fogging the glasses up, which made me have to take the gloves off, then take the glasses off, clean them, put the glasses back on, wipe the hair away from my eyes (which fall into my eyes when I take my glasses off), put the glasses back on, and re-adjust the mask, which at this point is either IN my eyes, or has slipped down to my nostrils.

Imagine having to do that for a 6-hour shift. Not gonna happen. If I were a cashier or pharmacy tech, it would be pretty easy to maintain wearing a mask, and I'd probably do that. But as a grocery clerk who is constantly bending over and climbing and lifting boxes and being jostled by product - or a cart person who spends a lot of time outside in the sweltering sweat-creating heat, or a carriage-cleaner, who is moving VERY fast in a very hot vestibule and also being very sweaty, all the time - it's just not practical.

brick010207 04-13-2020 09:41 PM

God forbid we should be inconvenienced to keep someone else from getting sick while they serve us

OlifOlif 04-14-2020 02:09 AM

Will they get more of those beans that Hunter likes?

Tsego58 04-15-2020 03:21 AM

I hear a lot about grocery stores because they are definitely a necessity. What does everyone think of the hardware stores. They are supplying us with paint, sprinkler parts, nuts and bolts, plants, mulch, and the items we want for projects because we are housebound. I think the items we get from there are a necessity for mental health and home safety. Thanks to those people on the front line too.
