stimulus check

Should get check today...:coolsmiley:

pacjag 04-15-2020 06:28 AM

An email notification from my bank this morning indicated my “check” was deposited this morning into my account.

billlaur 04-15-2020 06:54 AM

me to got it also:bigbow: is this a gr8 country or what

champion6 04-15-2020 07:10 AM

Ours was deposited last night.

asianthree 04-15-2020 08:20 AM

Our grandchildren both got theirs, college students working part time, they are under the poverty level of $10,000. Site says direct deposit checks coming weekly with lower incomes first. Deposits could last through September for higher income..

Smart thinking getting those who need it most deposit first.

So far no deposit for us or kids.

mrf6969 04-15-2020 08:36 AM

Lets hope we Villagers are one of the last to receive checks if at all. Taking care of those that are struggling, should be taken care of first for sure.
We that live in TV must be at the top 5% earners so lets hope to God we are at the end of the train.

Chatbrat 04-15-2020 08:43 AM

If you are fully retired, IMHO-you should not be eligible for any stimulus $$, you should be able to live on your retirement income, not get a bonus designed for people who are out of work--be a mensch and donate your check-we won't be getting one, income above the guidelines

LuvtheVillages 04-15-2020 09:08 AM

The government deposit I received today was my regular Social Security, not the stimulus check.
No rush. It will come when it comes.

The point is stimulus. Go stimulate with the funds.

Chatbrat 04-15-2020 09:29 AM

here is nothing to spend any additional income on, but just recurring bills, again we're not eligible for the stimulus

That isn't even almost true. Some of us live just barely above poverty level, and still work to ensure that we can have affordable health insurance. Many people living in the Villages are not yet eligible for Social Security - this is a 55+ community, not a 62+ community, afterall.

The cost of buying a "gently used" home in the Villages is low, compared to where some of us came from, and that makes it affordable for us to buy. The cost of living is also comparably low, especially considering there's no state income tax and, as said, we are still working.

Many of us are living off nothing more than a modest pension, and whatever income we get from working minimum wage jobs in the area part-time.

The stimulus checks aren't lifesavers for us - since we're not exactly "struggling" but they are a huge blessing that allows us a little wiggle-room to get a few odds and ends we were hoping to get, but just had to put on the back burner for awhile.

For us, it might be a new screen door, since our old one was a piece of trash and we got rid of it the week we moved in. Maybe a new bottle of eye cream. A new pair of shorts. And a new pair of eyeglasses, which I am a year overdue in getting but insurance doesn't cover it and I don't have a discount program.

But that all of Sumter, not just the Villages. This is not a inexpensive community to live in

mrf6969 04-15-2020 09:55 AM

Then I hope to God you do get yours soon to help your struggles. God bless

That makes it easier it tell everyone else to donate theirs, doesn't it?

We’re not all in the same boat. We have no pension and live off our savings and social security. We are good with our finances but we will use our money to stimulate the economy. Isn’t it better to use the restaurants, shops, travel, etc.? It gives jobs back.

This money is intended to be spent so that jobs can be saved. It's not about whether or not you need it to live. When you get your un-needed stimulus money, go spend it.

queasy27 04-15-2020 11:53 AM

Nothing for me so far.

I'm interested to see how it will shake out since I typically owe no taxes and don't have direct deposit info on file with the IRS, but do for social security. News reports say I should be getting a direct deposit, but will the two agencies work together to figure it out? Stay tuned! :icon_wink:

John_W 04-15-2020 12:54 PM

I just read that the IRS is handling this, they will deposit the money into the checking account of those who had a refund and their checking account was on file already. This started last night (Tuesday) If you filed with the IRS but didn't have a refund, then you'll be mailed a paper check beginning May 4th at the rate of 5 million per week, and then could take up to 20 weeks. If you didn't file with the IRS, I would guess they use Social Security records, but I haven't read anything on that.

Made a lot of assumptions there. What flavor koolaid did you drink that told you we’re the top 5%?

Well stated !!!!

trueorange 04-15-2020 01:11 PM

We got ours deposited today and I immediately wrote out 2 checks, one for the local food bank and the balance to the local diaper bank. There are a lot of people who need the money more than we do.

Rapscallion St Croix 04-15-2020 01:48 PM

According to a digital banking service survey, here is where the stimulus money is being spent"

People who received stimulus checks starting Friday already spent 16% on food orders, 14% on money transfers to friends and relatives, and 10% on gas. Grocery stores are eating up 9% of stimulus checks while 4% of the money is covering bills, and 5% is being spent on video games.
I would guess that some of the 14% sent to friends and relatives is also going to video games.

Actually it wasn't "designed for people out of work" it was designed to be spent to "stimulate" the economy. That would likely be the extra $600 included with unemployment checks you might be thinking about. Glad to hear your financially successful though so you should also post your 1040.

billlaur 04-15-2020 02:47 PM

I think you missed the point, chats not getting a check,

gadaboutgal 04-15-2020 03:40 PM

Duh, where to spend that money on willy nilly purchases that we are not in need of when we are locked down?

If your in that category good for you! I know very few. We have 3 categories here The Rich, the not so rich & the just getting by. I think you'd be amazed at how many people living in TV that are still working. Some because they're bored, some because they need play money, & then those that must to make ends meet. There are people here that go to the food pantry & the used clothing places because they have to. Most moved here from wherever to avoid the high taxes, utilities, fuel expenses etc. If it's a Husband & Wife household maybe both are getting SSI maybe some are only getting one. So yes this stimulus check is very much appreciated. As for mine it's going to be used for items we put off or can't do anymore and hiring someone to do what needs to be done hence putting someone to work that isn't working or is not in the big bucks bracket. Those of you who are in the Big Bucks brackets good for you. I can assure you there are MANY here that are not and these checks will be spent for sure!

LI SNOWBIRD 04-16-2020 08:55 AM

I like your use of the word "mensch".

tophcfa 04-16-2020 08:59 AM

When is this promised “portal” going to be available so people whose direct deposit information is not on file can provide the information?

It is available now. Go to IRS.gov, and click on "get my payment". Although, the site is somewhat crowded.

My daughter used it this morning......worked well.

Rapscallion St Croix 04-16-2020 10:01 AM

I think the stimulus check should be for $7999, but not because that is how much a refurbished Batman pinball machine costs.

Trishakaye 04-18-2020 09:24 AM

Yes

Give my check to a young family that needs the help. As retirees living in The Villages, if this check is necessary to buy groceries or pay bills then maybe you haven’t prepared for retirement as well as you should
