DirecTV Dish

The previous owners of our house had DirecTV and left their "Slimline" dish. Would that be of any use to anyone or does DirecTV give a dish to all new customers? I hate to throw something out if someone can use. Thanks.

You can pitch it. It's of no use to anyone.

villagetinker 04-20-2020 04:17 PM

I agree, you could leave the post in case you decide you want satellite service in the future.

kathyspear 04-20-2020 04:55 PM

Thanks, guys!

Trust me, they Do Not Want it.

rjm1cc 04-20-2020 06:59 PM

I do not think they will want it but you could write them a letter and ask them to remove from your property or give you permission to discard. Dish does want the TV boxes and stuff in the home and I assume these are not present now.

kathyspear 04-20-2020 10:03 PM

The previous owners moved out of this house last Summer. If DirecTV wanted their dish back I assume they would have communicated that to our sellers and that the sellers would have returned it. They weren't the kind of folks to leave loose ends. If hubs can figure out how to remove it I will put it out with the trash. Thanks, everyone.

For what it may be worth : About 2 years ago I moved within The Villages . I used DirecTV at the home I sold . When I terminated the service I asked them about the Dish . Their response was " you can do whatever you want with it however we will not send someone out to collect it ".
Also you may have noticed that DirecTV is no longer running ads for their satellite service . They are moving into Internet Service only . As you can imagine the savings for them will be huge as they eliminate the network of service trucks and installation techs .

If Direct TV is headed to streaming does that mean their rates will come down? I think their Direct Now streaming service started at $35 per month. I have Century Link and Direct TV and I am paying a small fortune but I have DDR and fast forward through all the commercials. I don't think I could go back to having to watching the commercials again. Any advice?

Lpotla 04-21-2020 05:20 AM

Does any one know if you have Direct TV up north, can you just have one account with them and bring the box with you south(as long as you have a dish installed in both location)?

Woolyg 04-21-2020 05:54 AM

I just moved in 2 months ago and I removed the dish and threw it out in the trash.. If it is on the roof just leave the base plate since it is stuck down with black tar on top of the shingles and screwed..

You might want to think about filling the holes in your roof when you take it down.

marilynmltw 04-21-2020 06:02 AM

Yes, we did that for many years. Now, we just have a box in each house. You do have to call them with each move so they can redirect the "beam"

Adorrable1 04-21-2020 07:05 AM

I would be interested. Have directv up north and was thinking of continuing it down south during snowbird time instead of getting cable. You can message me if you want Joan whiteman dorr

FYI , they are not “redirecting the beam” ...... each dish is properly directed at their satellites and they simply activate or deactivate the box in use probably by their unique MAC address .......

greenflash245 04-21-2020 07:25 AM

save it until it snows, then use it as a sled

Pedrocarrasco01@yahoo.com 04-21-2020 07:35 AM

Yes you can have one account in 2 separate homes

Yes Dish network will allow that, you have to tell them to disconect the address and connect the other one, we had receivers for both, just had to make a phone call in advance to connect the system.

Yes, we have 1 account and bring our boxes & remotes with us

Stu from NYC 04-21-2020 08:17 AM

Good to know, we moved here a couple of months ago and have a direct TV dish on side of our house gathering dust.

erojohn 04-21-2020 09:08 AM

If you can remove it safely take to the curb. I had a similar situation and tried to get them to come and get it they said they would charge me to come and get it to recycle it. They do not reuse them. They do not want it.

Yes you can do that. We do. Good way to save money, that's why I think people want them. As long as you have a box to bring with you.

gail swanson 04-21-2020 09:26 AM

Yes! I take my boxes back to Missouri with me every year then call them to turn on local channels, very easy

You can get Direct TV anywhere if you have the boxes and a dish or motorhome dome;we throw our boxes into our motorhome and head to Northern NY for 2 months (family campground) then to other states visiting friends/family and get Direct TV wherever we go either off dome on top of motorhome or if under trees we pull out the dish.

Tom Kubala 04-21-2020 10:20 AM

Be careful...it is nearly impossible to get it out of the ground. Mine is permanent with a bush around it.

jagdl 04-21-2020 10:54 AM

We had only one account with Direct TV

We installed a dish on our home in the Villages. We just took the box back and forth and plugged it in. DTV doesn't care where you are. Never paid any extra. Got the dish from ebay.

It is not on the roof. It is attached to a short (3' tall?) pole next to our AC unit on the side of the house.

Be careful with DirecTV

We had DirecTV both in PA & TV for 2 yrs. while we were snowbirds. It worked well. When we moved permanently in 2018, I clearly explained our situation, returned boxes in PA and transferred the account to FL; however, the PA office canceled everything. We had a royal mess and had NO TV for nearly a month while they "worked on it!" We finally canceled everything and went to streaming. Would you believe DirecTV (bought up by AT&T) still billed us and even sent it to collections when we refused to pay! I'm glad I kept records of everyone I talked with, along with dates, times and their badge numbers, especially the ones who had apologized and said there was no payment due. Collections asked for the info and said we would not hear from them again! Be very careful to spell out exactly what you want them to do and keep good records!

When I cancelled Direct TV, I asked them when they would come pick it up. Their response: You own it! BTW they have never requested I send back my DVR and cable boxes.

Shyer 04-21-2020 05:23 PM

Set it out for the trash was what I was told. They don’t want them back. Someone will pick it up. Most everything I have put out by the street disappears before morning 👍
